BRIGHTNOSE ──
skyclan | sun guard

It's dawn, and once again, Brightnose is on a restless walk through the territory. Her paw has healed nicely since the skirmish with ThunderClan, and she's eternally grateful that she can hunt normally again. She can faintly hear a bird or two singing amongst the trees, dwindling in numbers with the approach of leaf-bare, and there's a slight crunch underpaw as she pads across the frost-laden ground. When she sighs, her breath forms in a small cloud in front of her face.

Brightnose has certainly taken her time with adjusting to SkyClan's new home. She finds that her heart often aches for the days of the gorge, of being a kitten, of Coffeestar's leadership, and most of all, of her sister. She knows the journey was what was best for the Clan, but she sometimes wonders if returning to the days of Fourtrees and Gatherings was what was right. The other 'Clans' here, if they could truly be called Clans when they don't properly follow the code, aren't exactly the easiest to get along with at times. ThunderClan in particular is a thorn in the side of SkyClan…

Brightnose decides to clamber up one of the tree trunks to get a better view of the sunrise, leaping from branch to branch until she's satisfied. Through the leaves, she can see the last stars twinkling as the sun obscures their view.
"Is this truly what you wanted for us, StarClan?" she asks, although she doesn't expect an answer. StarClan has never been one to be upfront about things like that - it's up to the cats of the living realm to interpret their words and do what is best. And boy does Brightnose try her hardest to trust her starry ancestors, even though 'what is best' often involves pain and suffering along the way. Even now, she can feel a phantom ache in her paws and legs from just thinking of the sheer amount of walking she'd had to do on the journey here. Her entire apprenticeship had been spent walking. And that's to say nothing of the emotional turmoil that her sister's death had caused her, something that surely would never have happened had SkyClan been able to stay in the gorge. She shivers; not from the cold, but from the idea of who she might have become in a lifetime where Berrypaw was still alive. A truly foreign concept, even for her.
But really, despite everything, had the journey been worth it? Brightnose considers what's happened since their arrival. Yes, there had been death. There had been suffering. But there had also been happiness, hope, and relief. Her Clanmates worried far less about empty stomachs and rat bites and illness since coming here. And as for the other four Clans, and the Gatherings… if StarClan willed it to be so, maybe there was benefit to be found in that yet. At the end of the day, I guess it doesn't matter where we ended up on our journey. Gorge or no gorge, Fourtrees or no Fourtrees, I am still a SkyClanner. She likes that thought, enough to make her lips curve upward in a slight smile. It hardly mattered how long the journey had been or where they had ended up in terms of her loyalty - she would have followed her Clan to the ends of the earth, had it been necessary. Everything else was in the paws of StarClan.

The final stars dwindle as the sun hovers over the horizon, and its warmth seeps through Brightnose's pelt and into her skin. For a few moments more, she admires the scene, a brilliant light cast onto the distant lands that SkyClan had so painstakingly traversed to get here. The journey had been to find SkyClan a new home, but perhaps Brightnose has been at home the whole time, for it's the Clan itself that she belongs with no matter where it is. The cats from the other Clans know nothing of that kind of kinship and camaraderie - perhaps they will in time, but SkyClan's will always be stronger. That is something to be proud of.
Turning tail and hopping back down through the tree the way she came, she huffs as her paws land back onto the forest floor. She's spent just about enough time reminiscing; she has a Clan to get back to.
now i will tell you what i've done for you
