He didn't necessarily expect a big public announcement of his leader's personal affairs but it would be nice to know she was finished with Sablestar properly; though he doubted she was. While his hatred of his brother had simmered in recent days due to his anger being redirected it still didn't mean he was willing to be close as they once were when they were younger. He and Sable would never be that way again, he knew it in his heart, he would never be able to let go that hurt that divided them for so long but he could at least stop feeling this unbridled fury at the mere mention of his brother's name. For now. Until something ELSE happened that sent him back over the edge.
Graybird normally would avoid hunting alongside the edge of the marsh, a combination of not liking the smell and not wanting to deal with ShadowClan once kept him at bay but now, now he wanted something. Wanted one of them to cross him, to give him a reason to vent his feelings through claws. He wonders if Owlbark really was attacked unprovoked or if their deputy had dragged a SkyClanner across the border to maul and discard, he couldn't say there wasn't an appeal to doing similar here. Just needed a pretty lie to wash it out, if it was a lie at all. The gray tom didn't really know how to think anymore about it. Juniperstar believed the tabby, but she also still felt there was something worth saving in Sablestar. Maybe love was blinding him and she was a fool, but as soon as he had the thought he felt immediate guilt at it and shook his head.
"If you'd just leave him we wouldn't have these problems..."He muttered, maybe a touch too loud, but its not like anyone was nearby anyways.

Ooc- @WOLFPACK -takes place several days after the gathering.

AND I AM SORRY MY CONSCIENCE CALLED IN SICK AGAIN

______________________________________________________________________

The border was familiar by now, a route he took often– checking markers, noting scent changes, watching for signs of trespass. A routine he'd managed to carve out for himself somewhere along the way from 'wandering rogue' to 'deputy with territory'. He couldn't say the monotony was enjoyed when he was so used to seeing new things and new places, but there were enough pros to outweigh the cons in his eyes. Enough to keep him collared and leashed to the place like a dog rather than the Wolf he'd been named for.

It was okay, though. The collar hung loose around his neck. The chain thin and willing to snap under pressure. It contained him only because he allowed it to, and it was well known– even by Sablestar himself– that he could slip that collar or snap the tether as easily as he'd put himself in it.

For some reason though, he didn't. And for some reason, Sablestar had rewarded him for it.

Like humans domesticating the first wolves, throwing them bones by the fire in exchange for not mauling their livestock and chasing off other predators.

"If you'd just leave him we wouldn't have these problems…"

Wolfpack stilled, ears flicking toward the sound coming from the other side of the hazelbush– not close enough to be on his side of the Thunderpath, but loud enough that he caught the frustrated words. Some tom, griping about a cat caught in a problematic relationship. Nothing of interest to the giant chimera– or so he thought, until he continued past the hazel bush and spotted a familiar pelt.

Well, familiar in the way most of the colony cats were. He didn't know their name, but he recognized the fur and the fact that he was one of Sables kin. The bastard had them everywhere it seemed, demanding mercy from the deputies claws because of it. Wolfpack didn't understand it. Maybe it was because he'd never had littermates of his own, but more than likely it was just another side effect of his savage nature. Either way, he recognized this cat– not just because of who they were to his leader, but because they'd been one of the cats to react… more powerfully to Juniperstars death, rushing to her and crowding shoulder-ro-shoulder with his brother as if he had a place there beside her medicine cat, mate, and child.

It put new perspective on the words, because now, he had an inkling they weren't meant for just any cat in Thunderclan.

The mottled feline slipped into view along the Thunderpath, keeping to his side but walking the very boundary line. Each step was relaxed, made with the unbothered swagger of a patrolling predator, but his mismatched eyes were turned toward the Thunderclan sides with something that vaguely resembled amusement.

"I didn't realize Thunderclan shared their gossip with the marsh." he called, not having to speak too loudly given there was no traffic to shout over. The road was quiet, today. "Hoping your opinion will be more popular on this side of thunderpath?"

His words weren't spat or growled– if anything, they came easy, mellow like conversations shared between acquaintances. But there was weight behind them all the same, the kind of weight that came from a cat used to turning boredom into bloodshed if given half a chance.

And he was hoping for a chance.

I am not your kind and gentle husband

Graybird's head snaps up with a start, eyes narrowing as he partially turns to see the speckled form of ShadowClan's deputy stalking through the tall marsh grasses along the border near where he stood lost in thought. Everytime he saw Wolfpack he could not remove the image of Straw's ginger pelt between those sharp, blindingly white teeth, the way they bit down mercilessly and ended the life of one of the least deserving of death cats he'd ever known.

The pale tom flicks his tail, wonders if he could have done more in that moment but the memory shifts to his own ashen throat between those jaws and he knows its useless to ponder on what-ifs. Why his brother chose such a cat to be his right paw was beyond him, but for once the tone spoken by the intimidating cat lacked the usual growl and bite he remembered; it was almost curious. Last he recalled Wolf wasn't exactly the chatty type... Then again neither was he, not truly.

"I'm sure my opinion isn't so rare." He'd seen the look at the gathering, thinly veiled disgust and annoyance that rivaled his own when Sablestar approached Juniperstar with all the air of a pair of young cats on their first moonlit walk.

"How goes being my brother's dog? Does he make sure to leave you scraps? Rub your belly?" Graybird rises to stand, he is not usually so bold, not often the type to antagonize especially when it came to a cat who clearly outmatched him; but he was broiling inside from seeing Serpentberry leave his leader's den for the second day in a row and he needed something to take it out on - anything at all.
