Prompt 103: attempt to catch a fish

It's rare that Brindlefeather sets out to hunt in general, much less this. But alas, once he gets an idea in his head, he must see it through.
Carefully avoiding the twolegplace on his way, he finally reaches the stretch of river that runs through ThunderClan territory, glancing down into the water below. He waits, crouching down as he watches for what he's after - a glint from beneath the water's surface, a shadow that seems to move. Until finally...
Brindlefeather practically leaps forward to grasp the fish between his claws, yanking it out of the water before it can escape. Unfortunately, the slimy thing wiggles its way right in-between his paws, and his desperate attempt at sinking his claws into it leads to him batting it back into the water.
"Mouse-dung," he curses under his breath, hanging his head in defeat. He's not surprised in the slightest by his fumble - he's never been much good at hunting, anyway - but he can still feel disappointment stir within him as he crouches down to try again. It's not so much the fish itself he's after, though it'd surely be a lovely addition to the fresh-kill pile; it's the scales, those pretty little things that glisten in the sunlight like stars in the night sky. It'd be perfect for making the most beautiful camp decorations, he just knows it. If only he could get his paws on some to try it out...
Maybe I should have asked for help after all, he thinks with a sigh. Should I head back and find somecat? But I've already come this far...

BRINDLEFEATHER is an orange-and-white tom mottled with brown stripes. His fur is medium-length and his eyes are dark brown.
Brindlefeather is known mostly for his outgoing and compassionate personality. He tries to see the good in everything and everyone, and he does his best to be on good terms with every cat he speaks to.
Although he's a forager, Brindlefeather will sometimes try to catch some fresh-kill for the Clan if he sees it's running low - even though he's not super great at it. He will also often offer to share his fresh-kill with anycat who looks like they want or need it.
Believing that violence is never the answer, he has sworn off of any kind of fighting unless absolutely necessary - and even then, he'll do what he can to de-escalate the situation. He hates seeing anyone get hurt, especially when it could have been prevented by talking things out.
