LEADER OF SKYCLAN

.

The moon is high, not quite full but still ringed with silver clouds that shone opalescent in its immitable glow. The Gathering has taken up the event of the full moon from SkyClan's previous traditions: how could one celebrate their own clan if they were busy being espoused on the latest news from their neighbors? It was a good thing, then, that not many cats seemed to remember the celebrations from the old ravine. The ones were cats would dance and sing under the light of a lonely moon. The ones that dwindled as SkyClan's numbers dipped, and prey became scarce, and cats began to get sick at what they could find.

The ones that ceased when Coffeestar died.

Hawkstar sits among them today: the sick, the downtrodden, the warm, the familiar, the new, the unwavering. Her warriors, her clan, her family, her life. Her entire purpose for living now. Once she could imagine herself and her children as separate. Higher than, risen from the daylighters and the kittypets and the rabble the Coffeestar allowed to prance in and out of their ravine. But now, they were as much of her responsibility and heart as Starlitpath, Rosebelly, Milkheart, or Skykit.

She sits with them, and raises her lips in a genuine smile: "SkyClan. We have spent the last year fighting, grieving, and suffering. We have let these new clans weigh down our thoughts and raise our hackles, and we have spent so much time focusing on them that at times we forget ourselves. We are the ancient clans of our memory, we are the great warriors are legends, made manifest in this new place. Tonight, we will revel in our own glory. My prides, my hearts, share this with me. Eat, play, dance, be. We can worry ourselves with the drivel of the forest in the morning."

POST PROMPTS - completing any prompt gains you an additional 1 point
1. Tell a story about the code- how do you remember it being told? Is that how others remember?
2. Remember a time in the gorge! Does it make you smile knowing how far you've come?
3. Share a piece of prey with someone you don't normally talk to!
4. Why do you think Starclan guided us here?
5. It's been a year since SkyClan's arrival at the gorge… do you think your clan is doing better now, despite the hiccups?
6. The younger members probably don't remember, or weren't present for the journey, why not tell them a lighthearted story?

BERRYKIT

Berrykit listened to what Hawkstar was saying, ears flicking as they spoke their carefully picked out words. The kitten didn't fully understand what all those words meant, but he listened intently, trying to remember it all. He was going to be an apprentice soon and it would be proper to learn to listen. He was too young to have known SkyClan's previous territory, all he knew he knew from stories and all the stories from his clanmates he's heard already. Except... he hasn't heard Acornheart's stories yet - his mom's friend only recently having made it to SkyClan after being lost. Lost where, Berrykit wasn't sure, but he liked the tom.

Eat, play, dance, Hawkstar had said, and it gave Berrykit a brilliant idea. He padded over to the fresh-kill pile, looking for a bird small enough for him to be able to hold but big enough to share. A striking bird caught his attention - it reminded Berrykit of the leaf-fall colours, brown body like the crunchy leaves, with yellow and red feathers like the leaves about to fall down. A Goldfinch.

Berrykit had only met Acornheart once, when his mom introduced them after she got out of the healer's den. He has heard stories about the tom, but now he had a chance to talk to him. Perhaps sharing prey with the tom could be a nice way to get to know him more and to listen to more stories about SkyClan's past.

Berrykit squeezed through the bush in front of the log, the healer's den, and walked inside, towards Acornheart. "Hi Acornheart!" he chirped after setting the bird down. "You remember me, right? I'm Berrykit!" The kit sat down eagerly, not waiting for an invitation. "Do you wanna share this bird? And tell me stories about the former territory? Or your journey here?" Berrykit barely breathed in between his questions, eager to learn more things about SkyClan.

"Pretty pleaaase!" he pleaded with big eyes. "I have already heard all the stories the others have to share!"

Where the north wind meets the sea
There's a mother full of memory
Come, my darling, homeward bound
When all is lost, then all is found

.

A raspy breath left the elderly molly as she stretched, joints clicking softly before she settled herself down again. Snowveil's clouded eyes stared into nothing as ever, but her ears swiveled attentively, drinking in every sound of SkyClan's gathering. So much had happened since they arrived in these lands... And though she still bristled at living beside Clans who no longer remembered the old ways, that did not change the truth: they did. SkyClan carried memory where others carried emptiness. And hearing Hawkstar's steady voice ring out, Snowveil felt her chest warm with pride. Her former apprentice had brought them far. Farther than Snowveil had once believed possible.

" Hear, hear. " she hummed in agreement, lifting her chin. " We have known loss. We have bent beneath change. We have been forced to adapt. " Her whiskers twitched as she angled her head toward where the leader was. " But at the heart of it, we are still SkyClan. And we have never forgotten where we came from. " A soft, thoughtful sound rose from her as memories fluttered like leaves across her mind. " Ah... It reminds me of a story my ma used to tell me... " she said, her torn ear flicking. " Long, long before my time... Before even my grandmother's grandmother was born, there lived a she-cat named Swiftflight. " Her whiskers twitched faintly as she tilted her head a bit, waiting for a while until she was certain she had caught the interest of some of her clanmates, some of the young fletchlings.

" She was fast. So fast that birds panicked at the very shadow of her leap. She wanted to be the pride of her Clan. And oh, StarClan, did she want the world to know it. " Snowveil shifted, curling her tail over her paws. " So she hunted. Dawn to dusk, dusk to dawn. Every morning she raced out before the sun woke, and every night she returned with so much prey that her jaws could barely hold them all. Mice, birds, voles, rabbits... Anything with breath, she caught. Her Clanmates praised her, of course. How could they not? They thought her unstoppable. Star-touched. A miracle. "

A soft exhale, almost a sigh. " But praise, little ones... " she murmured softly, a frown to her face. " Aan be more poisonous than any snakebite. " She tilted her head, listening to the Clan around her as though reminding herself they were still there. " The more they admired her, the more Swiftflight needed to prove that admiration right. And so she hunted harder. Faster. She would not rest. Would not eat. Her paws blistered and bled, yet she ran. She devoured the forest's silence. Birds fled her. Squirrels kept to their nests. Even old badgers hid in their burrows until she passed. "

Her tone darkened, but gently. " And soon, Swiftflight had killed more than her Clan could ever eat. The clearing where she laid her catches became a graveyard of feathers and fur. Two sunrises, three, four... And the prey began to vanish. Not just from her claws, but from the territory itself. She had robbed the forest of its breath. " She stopped for a moment, a somber expression upon her face as she dipped her head low. " Then leafbare came... " A dreadful sigh left her, mournful... As if she could picture the scene itself in her mind's view. " The prey was gone. Starved. Scarce. And the clearing where Swiftflight once boasted her kills lay empty, chilled, silent, bitter. Kits cried with hunger. Warriors grew gaunt. Elders wheezed for warmth. And Swiftflight... She who had once been the Clan's pride... She looked upon the hollow dens and knew the truth. "

Her voice thinned into something sorrowful. " She had done this. Her pride. Her unending need to prove her worth... It was what had stolen every chance her Clan might have had. " Snowveil lifted her chin, though she could not see. " And so she left. Walked out into the snow alone. Some say she sought StarClan's judgment. Others say she became prey for the forest she had robbed. None know for certain. " A soft breath, almost a whisper as she continued. " But her story remains, to remind us that skill is a gift, not a hunger. That talent must serve the Clan, not the ego. And that no warrior, no matter how glorious, has the right to take more than what is needed. "

Her tail brushed the ground, a slow rhythmic sweep. " That is why we honor the code. Why we take only what we need. Why we respect the forest. Because without balance... Even the greatest hunter can bring a Clan to ruin. "

PEARKIT

ANY PRONOUNS

SKYCLAN

KITTEN

Pearkit isn't sure what's going on in camp today, but the pointed cat that is often referred to as King sits among their clanmates, grabbing everyone's attention with their speech. Pearkit feels captivated, even if she doesn't understand what the words mean. One day she will learn.

He sits next to the pale striped cat that lives with them in the nursery. Snowveil's words are easier to follow, wrapped in the simple form of a story, and Pearkit listens as the story unfolds. He hopes Mothkit and the rest of his siblings are listening as well, as enamored as him. Pearkit's eyes widen at the mentions of Swiftflight's achievements and his ears lower as the tragedy unravels. He huddles close to Mothkit, feeling their warmth, feeling protected and safe next to them.

As the story comes to an end, Pearkit looks up into Snowveil's unseeing eyes, ears drooped low. "Is this why Mama doesn't want us playing with our food?" they ask, curious. "Because prey is precious?" They're mainly just repeating what Mama had told them, not exactly following the meaning behind the words, but they're trying to wrap their head around it at least. They think of what it would be like to not have food to eat nor milk to drink and they shudder at the thought. That's not the kind of place they'd want to live in.

mothkit
maybe you feel the same ?

Mothkit stared upward, wearily eying the clan leader. They didn't know what she wass talking about, but they did love eating and playing, so they were cautiously interested. There was an energy to camp that made them believe everything must be good. (Mama smiling helped, too.) When Snowveil started talking, Mothkit swiveled towards her with wide eyes. They knew this cat from around the nursery - she was kindly, and often checked up on their mama and them. They liked her, and they were immediately wrapped up in the tale. Though some of the worlds went over their head, they understood the importance of eating and helping the clan. It sounded like Swiftflight had done something bad, and Mothkit knew what bad meant. They never wanted to be bad - bad was bad!
"The code..."
Mothkit repeated to themself, not quite sure what that truly meant.

Pearkit spoke up beside them, and they nodded in slow realization. They still turned their nose up at the idea of eating prey - they wanted milk - but they knew that was what mama ate, and the other, older cats in the nursery. They'd even seen Berrykit eat it! They didn't understand why they didn't all drink milk, but that was a question for a different time.
"Does that mean it's bad if I think prey is yucky?"
They asked fretfully. They didn't want to waste food and break the code accidentally!

Acornheart had positioned himself halfway in and out of the medicine cat den, as the primary patient, he knew it wouldn't be too bothersome to sit there. He watched as Hawkstar spoke proudly of her Clan, watching the leader happily as she mentioned the need to revive old customs. That had been a concern for him upon learning that there were other Clans in their new home, and that full moons were now a time to meet in peace with neighbors.

He smiled as Berrykit approached with a bird in his jaws, purring as the young cat dropped it in front of him.

"Well, of course I remember you, Berrykit!" he meowed, giving the kit a smile. "And I really appreciate you coming to share this very yummy looking bird with me." He took a small bite, chewing thoughtfully before passing it to Berrykit for the next.

"You want a story about the gorge? I'm afraid my journey stories aren't particularly... celebratory." Acornheart chuckled awkwardly.

"Let's see... oh, I know! Back in the old territory, we lived very close to the Twolegplace," he began. "And lots of cats were what we called Daylight Warriors - they lived in Twolegplace during the night, and came to join the Clan during the day. Well, one day, me and a couple other apprentices wanted to get an idea of what it was like to be Daylight Warriors. Try kittypet food and all that. I took on the dare to be the first to go, and walked right up to a Twoleg nest, yowling as loud as I possibly could! I'm sure the look on your mother's face was a sight.

"Well, the Twoleg opened up their nest and scooped me right up! I was just expecting to go inside, not get handled by a Twoleg, so I squirmed and yowled and tried to get out of their paws! But the Twoleg was far, far too strong! Inside the nest, I could see one of the Daylight Warriors, [abbrNPC]Rufus[/abbr], watching the entire thing! He was laughing as I struggled, and finally, the Twoleg set me down. I went racing off into the forest, and all the other apprentices teased me!

"We tried to keep it a secret, but the next day when Rufus came to camp, he told my mother, Coffeestar, about what had happened, and I got a bit of a scolding- how were we meant to keep our loyal Daylight Warriors if we caused trouble with the Twolegs? Mom wasn't harsh, but it was a really important lesson about co-exisiting with the Twoleg neighbors, and I definitely never tried something so mouse-brained again."

what a shame we all became

Rain peered up at Hawkstar with a smile. Though she had only been part of Skyclan - and honestly she still had a hard time considering herself a part of the clan - for a short time, she felt a great swell of pride in her chest listening to Hawkstar address the clan. There was so much to learn about the clan and their ways, and she was grateful to know her kits would grow up learning their code. Almost as soon as Hawkstar finished speaking, Snowveil launches into a tale, drawing the kits to her. Despite the chill to the air, she felt warm all over at the sight of her kits listening, rapt, learning about the history of their home.

She contemplated staying and listening, but in peering around the camp, she saw Berrykit approaching a cat near the healer's den. He was such a sweet kit. It inspired her - maybe she would share a meal with someone. She glanced around until her bright blue gaze landed on Teaselfeather, one of the cats who had welcomed her into the clan that day on the border but who she hadn't really spoken to since. With a small, satisfied nod, she padded to the freshkill pile and selected a chipmunk, decently plump for the season.

Lifting it carefully, she bounded towards Teaselfeather and placed it in front of them with a smile.
"Hi,"
she purred.
"I wanted to say hi, and thank you for welcoming me when I first showed up. Would you want to share this with me?"
She grinned, folding one ear sheepishly as she curled her tail around her paws.

Fujimoto glanced around the clearing to see the joy-filled faces of his Clanmates. Those from before the journey delighted in indulging their more youthful Clanmates with their gorge-bound stories. One's of valuable lesson, some to simply entertain. The Guard could hear the mutters of some familiar names from both fairytale and past memories- he could never tire of hearing that same story from Snowveil.

Wide green eyes bounced from one to the other, in their small clowders. Fujimoto was struggling to stay inside the moment, however. Listening to the lilted chatter had lulled at some point while his gaze drifted off, thinking of another. One of willow orange fur and gentle eyes. He thought of Granmamare with the smallest of smiles, imagining her listening the all the prattle with him. She seemed the kind to enjoy this sort of social gathering, 'good company'. Maybe soon he could invite her to SkyClan's lands and see it all for herself.

BERRYKIT

Berrykit first gasped and then burst into giggles and laughs as Acornheart told his story. "You're so silly!" he exclaimed. "Why would you want kittypet food anyway? SkyClan prey is the best!"

His mommas had taught him all about the prey out in the territory and Berrykit had eventually learned to eat it instead of milk. He had to admit that since growing bigger, solid food was better for him - for his teeth and stomach both. But all he's heard about kittypet food was that it was just hard pellets like gravel, all with the same taste and texture. Where was the fun part in that?

"Did you have chipmunks in the gorge? I bet you didn't!" Berrykit giggled, convinced that if they had, Acornheart would have had no reason to seek kittypet food.

"Anyway!" the kitten nodded, seriously. "I'm glad your mother wasn't upset with you and that the twoleg didn't steal you! You're fun to be around."

Let me die, let me drown, lay my bones in the ground
I will still come around when the time for sleep is through
Over hill, over dale, through the valley and vale
Do not weep, do not wail, I am coming home to you

.

Teaselfeather listened quietly, a soft smile curling at their maw as their mismatched hues drifted over the gathered cats. They had all suffered losses... Star-shaking, heart-breaking losses... But here they were. Together. Sharing prey, sharing stories, sharing warmth. Alive. So abundantly alive that the feeling pressed against Teaselfeather's ribs like it might burst them open. Even with ghosts wandering the forest, ghosts only they ever seemed to see, here in the soft glow of evening, surrounded by familiar pelts and gentle laughter, they were reminded...

They were not a husk. They were not drifting toward becoming one of the dead. They were here. Now. Breathing.

Their ears twitched lightly as Rain approached him and spoke to him, and Teaselfeather blinked, once, then twice... Before a warmth crept across their cheeks and heated the tips of their ears. Rain's offer to share prey with them sent a delicate stir of something fluttering in their chest. " Ah... No, no... " they murmured, voice soft as wind through new leaves. " It was my pleasure. Any good soul is welcome in our midst. " They dipped their head, respectful, earnest. When they looked up again, their smile was shy but true.

" I... I would be honored to share prey with you, Rain. " there was a moment of silence, a small pause as his eyes grew gentle. " We can... Uhm... Chat, if you'd like. "

ooc: :3 hi @Rain

Flowercloud held her chin high, her fur neatly wrapping around her from freshly being cleaned. Her green eyes were bright as she listened to her king speak wise words. A night of celebration, a time to embrace their culture. She looked to the moon behind Hawkstars head, the way the cloudless sky made them twinkle and shine brighter.

Her maw purred as Hawkstar led the night to commence- and she turned to the fresh kill pile. She was eager to sit with someone, talk about the good old days. And for a moment- she thought about sitting with Fujimoto when Chrysalisgaze appeared to be sitting alone. After the talk with Hawkstar- flowercloud really meant to speak with her. Time faded, days mixed together after the Riverclan patrol, and losing three members.... Names who she would remember and grieve in a sort of healthy quiet.

Now was not the time to think about that, however. Shed lead her paws to the white and black she - cat with a sparkle in her eye and a bird in her jaws. "Greetings, Chrysalisgaze!" She said with a purr, settling next to the other and offering the prey for her to eat first. She was going to fill in the other- but her speech paused, green gaze watching as Snowveil spoke a story she remembered dearly. Her chest chummed in a purr as she remembered when she was a little child.

When the caregiver was finished, she flicked her tail, gaze happy and eager. "Snowveil told me that when I was a kit! I loved that story so much. Still excites me- and I always wanted to be the fastest cat. But I am glad I am not fast- instead I am good in trees, and climbing. I think nowadays I prefer that."

BRIGHTNOSE | SUN GUARD
"ALWAYS CONFUSING THE THOUGHTS IN MY HEAD"

.

A moonlight celebration... Brightnose watches as cats flock to each other, conversing, telling stories and sharing prey. In a few minutes, she will step out toward the center of camp to join her Clanmates in the fun - but, almost instinctually, she watches first, leaf-green eyes casting glances to every cat. The sight of it makes something stir in her chest, and she can almost picture something, a vague memory in her mind.

Brightnose is just old enough to remember the last few celebrations that had been thrown under Coffeestar. She was a kitten back then - stumbling through the gorge's camp, her eyes a shining testament to her namesake. The elders would tell her stories, and she and her sister would run off to play games with the apprentices until they were too tired to stand. She remembers... the feeling that it gave her. Like a flower was blossoming inside of her heart. Everything felt so right then. The smiles of cats and the purr of her sister beside her... it's a feeling she had lost over time.
The journey had been equal parts predestined and devastating. Brightnose had lost everything and then lost some more - and it hadn't just been her that misfortune had clung to. The days of stories and playtime had long since passed, replaced by bitter tears and solemn silence. But by the grace of StarClan and the will of their king, SkyClan had made it to the forest, escaping the snapping jaws of extinction that had been on their heels. And now they are here.

Suddenly she can see it as if clear as day. The kits playing, the warriors laughing together, the elders telling tales of the code and their old home. Brightnose feels as if she is back in that moment when she was young, and she doesn't even notice the own smile upon her face as she gazes at the sight of it. The flowers of joy, blooming once again. After all this time... she holds hope for herself and her future.
Rising to her paws, she pads forward to enjoy the night with her Clan.

Cherrydawn watched the festivities with a soft, blossoming smile, her mismatched hues bright as she took in the familiar swirl of pelts and voices around her. For a moment, she let herself drift, back to memories of Cottoncandy, her fluffy sister with her gentle laugh and ever-present nerves. Stars, she wondered if Cottoncandy would've liked it here... She remembered her first time in the gorge, all downy kitten fluff and wonder, darting between the paws of warriors and rushing home afterward to her two legs with breathless stories for her sister. She remembered the festival under Coffeestar's rule, the thrill of belonging, the spark of hope. She had begged Cottoncandy to come with her then, to see SkyClan the way she did... But her sister had been scared, unsure.

And now? Now they were entire worlds apart. Cherrydawn didn't know if she'd ever walk those old paths again, not truly. Maybe when she was older, when SkyClan no longer needed her. Or maybe... Maybe Cottoncandy would find her way here someday. The thought made her chest ache with longing, but she took a steadying breath. She had made her choice. SkyClan was her home. And she wouldn't trade it, not even for the days she still missed. With a plump piece of fresh-kill between her teeth, she moved through the crowd, eyes flicking across familiar and unfamiliar faces alike. Some she knew deeply. Some were strangers she hoped wouldn't stay strangers for long. Spotting a cat sitting alone at the edge of the clearing, she brightened, padding over with a gentle, hopeful smile.

Setting the prey down, she tipped her head warmly. " Hey, do you want to share this with me? " she offered, voice soft but sunny as ever.

𓆦 𖢥 𓆨 𓆣 𐀔 Chrysalisgaze 𐀔 𓆣 𓆨 𖢥 𓆦

Chrysalisgaze couldn't believe it's been a full cycle already since SkyClan has made their journey. When she thought about it, it made sense - soon her own kittens would be apprentice-aged, and during the journey, the two haven't even had a chance to think about starting a family. Not in such uncertain times, when they didn't even know if they would make it to the new territories.
But now, Chrysalisgaze looked around and felt nothing but pride. Their numbers were higher than ever, growing day by day. She couldn't help but smile at Rain's wonderful kits, now part of SkyClan as well. Little Songkit looked just like his momma, the same curious spark in his eyes.
She watched her own son walk towards the healer's den, visiting her oldest and closest friend. Chrysalisgaze purred to herself, proud of how well Starlingtrail and her have raised their kits, as well as proud of Acornheart, for making it back to them, despite everything.
The she-cat was brought back to reality out of her own thoughts by approaching pawsteps and the smell of fresh-kill. "Oh, Flowercloud." she greeted the other, though quietly still, as her voice has not yet fully recovered. Flowercloud sat next to her, listening to Snowveil's story, meant to captivate the kittens for the most part, but it seemed to have worked on the deputy as well. Chrysalisgaze waited and when Flowercloud spoke again, Chrysalisgaze smiled at her, nodding. She hoped the other would understand her not speaking much just yet, following Swallowbreeze's instructions.

what a shame we all became

Rain smiled softly, feeling bad for flustering the young warrior but also finding it rather... endearing.
"I'm glad you think I'm a good soul,"
she purred, feeling somewhat embarrassed. Of all the ways she'd been described in her life - mature for her age, beautiful, charming, strong - good soul felt nice to hear, more flattering than the others.
"But yes, let's chat!"

Settling in beside Teaselfeather, she sat just close enough that their fur brushed and scooted the chipmunk towards them.
"This is so exciting - celebrating one full year of Skyclan in a new territory. I'm glad I get to see it. You came here with the original Skyclan cats, right? I've talked to Quailstep about it a bit but... You're so much younger. Was that scary for you?"
She realized once it left her mouth that it was a pretty personal question, but it was too late. She'd been on the move for so long, she knew how frightening it could be to have no home, no answers, no rest. She hoped they weren't offended.

PENNED BY PLOT

Flutterkit, though usually quite distractible, was absolutely invested in this celebration. There were so many more cats than she'd had the chance to meet yet, and while she knew the elderly caregiver well, she found herself deeply invested in the story of this mighty hunter who nearly doomed her own Clan.

"Scary..." she murmured. "Don't... don't wanna do that!" Faer voice was a little louder than intended, but the sentiment was strong. Fae would never waste prey like the cat in the story! Though... how did one know how much hunting was too much?

Teaselfeather's smile softened into something almost luminous as Rain settled beside them, the shared warmth of her fur brushing lightly against their own. They didn't mention the thoughts that flickered quietly at the edges of their mind, that Rain had seemed gentle from the moment they'd first seen her, heavy with kits and burdened with worries she had borne alone. How their heart had ached at the loneliness she must have felt... And how relieved they were now, knowing she wouldn't face any of it without a Clan at her back. Family. Community. Safety. To Teaselfeather, that was what Clan life meant, what it had always meant.

A soft, rolling purr rose in their chest, unbidden but warm, as Rain nudged the chipmunk their way. They accepted it with a dip of their head, taking a small, polite bite before nudging it back toward her. While they chewed, their gaze drifted briefly to the sky, as if memory lived somewhere between the branches above. When they finally spoke, it was with that breathy gentleness that always seemed wrapped in leaves and wind. " Yes... " they admitted, ears tilting shyly. " I remember being scared during the journey... " Their mismatched eyes clouded with thought.

" Once... There was a fog. " Their voice quieted, as though remembering it chilled their bones even now. " A terrible one. So thick you could hardly see your own whiskers. I thought I heard my father in it, calling to us. " A sad smile ghosted across their muzzle. " But it wasn't him. It... Sounded wrong. Like someone wearing his voice. " For a moment, their head dipped, the tremor of that memory brushing their heart. Then they straightened with a steadying breath. " And there was the ice. " they continued, brows knitting. " We nearly lost Ponywhistle that day. The ice beneath her paws cracked like thunder. "

They gave a small shake of their head, whiskers trembling with the lingering fear of it. " Dangerous business... " they murmured, before lifting their gaze to Rain once more, eyes softening, warming again. " But... We made it through. And I'm glad we did. " Their tail tip brushed lightly against Rain's in a quiet, almost unconscious gesture of reassurance, both to her, and perhaps to themself.

PENNED BY PLOT

The sun guard stopped to speak with each of her friends in turn, bunting heads and purring thanks for their companionship. Each made her heart fuller than the last, reminding her that even with the hardships they've experienced since departing the gorge, they were still together. There was still happiness to be found. Much had changed, but there was still plenty that remained the same. Familiar faces, for one, even ones the sun guard hadn't spent too much quality time with. Her gaze landed on Tawnybeam, and she smiled, thinking of their adventure to the river in greenleaf. Quailstep plucked a squirrel from the pile of freshkill, padding up to him with a spring in her step, placing it before him.

"Evening, Tawnybeam!" she mewed. "This is all... pretty impressive, huh?" The sun guard took a seat beside him, looking out at their Clanmates mingling and enjoying themselves.

"Reminds me of the times back in the gorge," she said wistfully. "Before the gatherings were so... fraught." They took a bite of the squirrel and passed it to the tom. "Do you ever miss it?"

Tawnybeam is relieved to be momentarily freed of the troubles that come with sharing the forest with Clans once more. In SkyClan's solitude, he had almost forgotten what it used to feel like. Of course, this is how it's meant to be... how StarClan commands it to be. He hopes the ancestors don't think of him badly when he sometimes yearns for the inability to simply not care for their neighbors. They had brought death with them.

Now, all it takes is Hawkstar's powerful and commanding voice for it all to vanish. It's temporary—Tawnybeam knows that. But for tonight, he can simply focus on what really matters: his Clanmates.

"That it is!"
Tawnybeam's response is a purr as Quailstep approaches him. The light from the moon paints the sun guard's back silver. That celestial body had used to light the entire gorge up with its sheen, but thankfully, it still manages to break through and into the SkyClan camp with ease.
"I'm so glad we are doing this again. We can all use a break... and a gossip session."
Tawnybeam slow-blinks his thanks to Quailstep before taking a bite. Fresh-kill that is shared always tastes better. To think he used to have a singular bowl to himself, provided to him instead of being forced to catch it on his own...

Quailstep's words bring him back in time.
"Gatherings used to be fun!"
Disbelief pours from his tone, and he's relieved that she seems to share his opinion.
"Sure, we always had quarrels and disagreements... but not like this."
Not like this- not with the knowledge that SkyClan is the only Clan still living by the code.
"I missed it when we arrived here,"
he admits, almost sheepish.
"It was impossible to believe that we could call another place home, you know? The gorge was our home, and it felt wrong to abandon it."

He recalls how his heart had rebelled against the very idea, no doubt heightened from the guilt of leaving his Twolegs behind.

"But it turned out alright in the end. This is home now. Don't you agree?"

what a shame we all became

Rain watched with a small smile as her companion took their first bite, then nudged the chipmunk towards her again. She dipped her head and took a bite herself, then looked up to see Teaselfeather's dual-colored eyes looking far away. She held her breath for a moment, afraid that she'd stirred up frightening memories in the young warrior. When they spoke, it was soft, breathy, like a kit telling a frightening secret. Rain listened, brow furrowed in concern while anxiety prickled at her pelt.
"That sounds scary..."
She murmured. She wondered what that would feel like, to hear the voice a loved one but know it was wrong. She leaned a little closer, hoping to provide some reassurance to them until they took a deep breath and lifted their head. Though she could see a slight tremble to their whiskers, they continued on.

"Sounds like the whole thing was very... treacherous,"
she shook her head. She had traveled a lot in her moons, but she'd never had a near-death experience. Neither had Jet, at least in their time together. She couldn't imagine being forced from her home while also facing death every day along the way. The brief touch of Teaselfeather's tail against hers sent a sharp thrill up her spine, pulling her sharply from her thoughts. When she met their gaze, it was warm, comfortable. A purr erupted in her throat, her anxieties melting away. There was something about them that she liked very much.
"I'm glad you made it. I'm glad to be here, with you, right now."
She realized a heartbeat too late that she might have gotten a little carried away, and quickly looked around.
"All of you, really. After all that, you've made a good home here,"
she added with a small, awkward smile.
