Open Event THE MOONLIGHT CELEBRATION [ ⏾⋆.˚ ]

This tag indicates this is an event specific thread.

Stormcrow comes when she is called by her king, ever the loyal hound. She listens, watches, as all good scouts do– as all attentive knights should. As Hawkstar finishes, Stormcrow rises, weaving through the gathered cats with a single thing in her mind; the thing which was usually the only thing on her mind. Her king. She dips her head to cats she passes, casts a glance towards her mother, who is already spinning tales. With quiet steps, she falls in next to Hawkstar, tail touching hers in greeting.

"I remember the last one of these we had," she murmurs, voice carrying no further than the ears of her king. "The joy, the togetherness. Then came a time where I thought we'd never dance again– but you led us through it. We have emerged stronger because of it." She turns to look at Hawkstar, reverence in her eyes. "Tonight of all nights, I am prouder than ever to call you my king."

The incessant noise of Chewingpaw's chattering clanmates seemed to blister into too-thin batlike ears, even when they folded tightly against the sides of her skull. It almost reminded her of the gnashing and rumbling of the old place, ringing uncomfortably like a bell that knelled and rippled along the threads of her frail framework. It was different, though, and the wolflike molly knew so deep down. This was a time of unity, communion, cooperation. The Lykoi noticed that Skyclan tended to place a lot of faith upon themselves and their history, lauding it about as a flag of honor. Must be nice.

The coarse-coated molly pawed at a half-eaten rat, as though the marbled meat inside would make her hurl, an indelible stain within the annuls beneath rough skin. Disgust flitted along whetted features, like botflies bulging and blustering along her features. It was not because the prey had gone bad - in fact, she would usually ravenously scarf down whatever would be presented at her paws. It was simply the din, the crowd, the everything that overwhelmed them. At least there existed peace where peace did not often settle, though Chewingpaw knew better than to allow her hackles to fall fully, as if quietude hemmed and gnawed at the one so used to unassailable chaos. There was no such thing as true peace, not even as the clans pretended to tolerate each other beneath the watchful stare of the full moon. There would always be reason to fight, to tear, to kill. No cat was better than a beast.

Dovekit
status: calm
Dovekit drags the mouse along the ground, it is small but so is she. She makes a beeline for the apprentice known as Chewingpaw who appears to already have prey but isn't eating it. Perhaps there is something wrong with it. Dovekit is pretty sure her own mouse if perfectly safe for consumption so maybe it will help. "Hi." She drops the mouse at their feet and stares wide eyed at their face. Unblinking. "Brought a mouse. Wanna share?" She doesn't wait for an answer before scooting it closer and plopping down next to the apprentice. Her gaze turns to face Acornheart as she wraps her tail around her paws. Her ears perk as she listens to the tail of Rufus and the trail daylight warriors that Acornheart and other apprentices tried to become. It is very funny. Her brother was attentively listening as well.

"It's so strange isn't it.." She mutters low, her thoughts coming out before she's fully finished thinking them. "That Starclan brought us here...Why do you think that is?" She twists and stares up at Chewingpaw inquisitively. She waits to see if they will answer before continuing. "I think it's because the other clans are bad." The snippets of what she's heard about the other clans and her mothers attack lend credence to this theory. "And they needed good to offset the bad. It's why the whisperers are here. They are reporting back to Starclan the secrets they learn. The secrets of the other clans. So that maybe they will one day be good." The moths and birds, the whisperers and the seekers. Such strange creatures they are.

"Did you ever see the Twoleg again Acornheart?" She was not alive when the clan was at the gorge. Living only later she knew nothing about it, nothing about how they lived. She wondered if the whisperers were there or not. "Did moths live there?" Her voice is but a gentle hum next to the agitated Chewingpaw, a flowing, babbling brook over smooth pebbles, a calming presence more than anything. Or she hoped so at least. It would do little good to make the agitation worse.

SKYCLAN DAYLIGHT WARRIOR
SPEECH | THOUGHTS | PHYSICAL

PENNED BY PLOT

Fettuccine was fairly new to the Clan, and he didn't often spend nights at the camp - his nest back with his housefolk was plenty comfortable! But Hawkstar had mentioned some sort of celebration tonight as the moon, nearly full, crested into the sky.

And well, Fettuccine wasn't about to pass up on a party!

His many Clanmates mingled, laughed, told stories, and shared prey around him - while he didn't know everyone yet, he could still pick out a couple of familiar faces. Maybe tonight would be a good opportunity to meet some newer ones?

He picked up a nuthatch from the pile of fresh-kill, a pile he'd proudly helped to stock that day, and looked around the gathered cats. Most were busy in their own little groups, or flitting about like moths, but a few seemed to be on their own, or having just finished chatting with a companion. Boldly, Fettuccine picked one of the cats and strode up to them, setting down the bird.

"Hey! Nice to meet you - my names Fettuccine! What's yours?"

Deerkit was a newcomer to SkyClan. Not only was he only a kit - and thus too young to remember the gorge, the journey, or much of anything beyond the beginning of leaf-fall - but he was also not Clanborn. Though he could not say where his parents had first come from, he knew that they had not been Clan cats; he had been found by Swirlstrike and brought here. Since then, his days had been a whirlwind of new faces, names, rules, and scents, an assortment of information he had been diligently working to piece together 'til it formed a complete tapestry. This project was still very much a work-in-progress, but that was okay. It gave him something to do, after all; something to occupy his mind as the comings and goings of warriors flowed riverlike around him, obligated to remain in the clearing he now called home.

Today, though, was special. Tonight the moon was high and yet the clearing was alive with activity, with wistful and joyful chatter. The little brown tabby felt alive, more so than he had realized was possible without something scary or exciting spiking his adrenaline. The celebration of it all, the obvious pride their leader had in them, the community; for the first time since coming here, Deerkit truly felt like he was part of something great. He knew he barely understood it, and he knew that he had barely begun to prove himself worthy to be here - but here, glimmering in the silver moonlight, was dozens of reasons why he was the luckiest kit in the forest. I'm going to earn this. I'm going to prove that I belong.

With determination glowing hot in his chest and curiosity clear in his hazel eyes, Deerkit drew near to Dovekit and Chewingpaw, listening attentively to both Acornheart's tale of Rufus and the Twoleg and to Dovekit's thoughts on StarClan's reason for guiding them here. Why had they been brought here? It was an interesting question. Dovekit's answer felt like a good one to Deerkit, though he found himself wondering if all the other Clans truly were bad. "Maybe they can see us better here." wondered the striped kitten after a moment of quiet. His yellowish eyes shifted from the strangely-pelted Chewingpaw to Dovekit before he tipped his head back and stared up at the night sky, revealed for them in this open patch of woodland. "Um. And because we're good, they want to watch us and make sure we're doing okay." That was a good reason, wasn't it?

The mink curled amid the rabble, listening mutedly to the discussions of their clanmates. Code discussions, the journey, praises of Starclan. A small smile tugged on the maw of the warrior; it was a nice change in pace for the clan to be in jubilation. The last few seasons had been hard on them all, so a respite was well needed.

Part of them wanted to join in, but even having come along from the journey from the old territories, they were still rather bad at connecting with clanmates. They had no problem starting conversations, joining them either, but often at poor times. So for now they were content to watch over, perhaps if Peonykit needed any hel-

Maplemouse startled a little, a voice catching them off guard as someone approached from their blind spot. It had to crane to look properly, only to sigh a little to see it was one of the local kittypets who had taken interest in clan life and taken the newly reintroduced mantle of daylight warrior.

It gave a small smile as it shifted slightly to better see the other, Fettuccine he introduced himself as. "Pleasure is all mine, Fettuccine. I am Maplemouse." They hummed, noticing the prey the kittypet had brought; they had little idea if the other had yet to even hunt himself, but the gesture was well thought out regardless. "Kind of you to share prey with me on this day. I'd noticed you on occasion in camp in the day. Have you taken to clan life well?"

Warriorhood wasn't for everyone. Fettuccine seemed bright-eyed and maybe airing on naivety, but Maple didn't want to jump to conclusions. Daylighters were as treasured by the clan as those born within the camp, and those first few bold enough to take up the mantle were to be admired. So, Maplemouse still met him with warmth; it was rather nice to see so many new faces amongst the clan.

LEADER OF SKYCLAN

Hawkstar's electric blue stare softens into a look at Stormcrow's touch. She had fallen out of Hawkstar's favor in the recent months, with the most new and exciting attentions of Quailstep and others holding fast her wandering eye, but in the smallest of moments, there is still a small spark at the shared whisper offered.

"You flatter me," the king pushes back at the praise feebly, her tail not twitching or moving away from Stormcrow's own. "Coffeestar was still with us then. Remember how she laughed, so big and loud, we thought a bear had stumbled into camp. She had caught one of the kits trying to do a hunting pounce and they'd fallen right on their face … it might have been… Rosebelly, if I remember correctly."

Small, floppy-eared little Rosekit, straying for the first time out of the nursery with his siblings behind him, eager to impress, Flowercloud anxiously watching with a paw outstretched (as a first-time mother was always wont to do.) Hawkeye had known then that she wanted him as her apprentice, so full of fire and determination.

"Your apprentice is about ready to leave you. Have you thought of a final assessment for her? I'll need your report before I can accurately name her, you know."

PEARKIT

ANY PRONOUNS

SKYCLAN

KITTEN

Pearkit really enjoyed listening to stories, even if they couldn't quite understand them for the most part. But that was okay, for Pearkit was having fun anyway!

The young kit's belly grumbled and they realised their hunger - it was time to eat! The fresh-kill pile was full of options, but everything seemed too big for Pearkit's belly, the sight itself making them feel sick already. They needed to share with somebody - who could they share with? Their mind immediatelly went to Mothkit, but wasn't today about getting to know one's clanmates? Pearkit knew everything there was to know about Mothkit. They looked around at the unfamiliar faces, intimidating simply because they were unfamiliar. The kit's ears lowered for a moment, before they spotted a soft, kind looking face. They could probably approach her, if they found a bit of courage. They inhaled, exhaled, steadied their paws and decided - they were going to bring a mouse to Creampaw! Errr.... if that was actually her name, Pearkit wasn't sure if they remembered correctly.

Grabbing a mouse from the pile and holding it in their jaw, they padded towards the fluffy apprentice, eyes wide with incoming anxiety. But they pushed through nonetheless and dropped the mouse at the apprentice's paws. "Hi!" they chirped. "I'm Pearkit!"

After brief introductions, Pearkit wasted no time. "I bring food to share. And I tell story of the gorge!" Now, did Pearkit know what a gorge was? Absolutely not. But they liked Snowveil's story about the code a lot and wanted to tell one themself as well. They tried to recall exactly what it was that Snowveil said, but their small mind could only hold so much. Nonetheless, Pearkit puffed out their chest and started their story. "There was cat who saw butterfly and chased it around aaaaall day! He forgot to eat and then was hungry. The end!"

Now that sure was a story worth telling!

Ptarmiganpaw realised, as the crowd chattered amongst one another, that she seldom saw the whole clan together. Only ever during meetings did she see most of them, but even the smallest kits were amongst the chatter.

They felt a little uneasy, everything was rather loud, and discussion was rife between cats, few seemed not be in the midst of conversation. Ptarmiganpaw considered joining Hawkstar's conversation or seeing what Quailstep and Tawnybeam were talking about, but rather her gaze fell onto Brightnose. A smile wandered across her maw as she trotted towards the Sun Guard, expression knit with joy. The silver molly was always kind, and recalling her and Swallowbreeze's reminiscing, now felt as apt as ever to spend more time with her.

The undersized apprentice weaved through the crowd, apologising as she bumped into someone with a sheepish grin. Finally, stumbling upon Brightnose, a grin happened across their maw. "Hiya Brightnose!" The sealpoint purred, still crackly sounding but stronger by the day, bumping her head to the warrior's shoulder in a kind greeting. "Could you tell me another story from the old territory- Oh! Or maybe on the journey? I loved hearing you and Swallowbreeze's stories, and I wanna know more." They inquired with a sparkling gaze; they could have asked any cat, but they really rather enjoyed Brightnose's storytelling.

BRIGHTNOSE | SUN GUARD
"ALWAYS CONFUSING THE THOUGHTS IN MY HEAD"

.

Brightnose had been scanning the crowd of cats, watching them converse and share prey while she wondered who she'd like to approach first - though it seems that someone else is approaching her. The Sun Guard smiles warmly at Ptarmiganpaw's approach, and she sits as the apprentice nudges her shoulder in greeting.

"Hey kiddo! Congrats on becoming an apprentice, I don't think I got the chance to tell you yet! Having Hawkstar for a mentor must be really exciting!"
Brightnose has interacted with Ptarmiganpaw a few times, though it was mostly when they were a kit, still sickly and getting used to living amongst a large group of cats. She feels a bit protective over the young cat, knowing that they had suffered prior to being brought into the Clan, so to see how healthy and happy they are now compared to only a few moons ago makes Brightnose both thankful and relieved.
Ptarmiganpaw's question would perhaps normally come as a surprise, but well, this is a moonlight celebration, the perfect time for telling stories of days long past. Brightnose has never considered herself to be the best storyteller, but for Ptarmiganpaw she will try.
"Yeah, I can tell a story… a story about the journey, perhaps."

Honestly, Brightnose feels like she remembers the journey better than she remembers the gorge. She'd really only spent a sliver of her apprenticeship in the old territory, and thus her memory of it is very foggy aside from the camp itself; the journey, however, she remembers nearly every step of. Even the ones she wished she never took. But this isn't a time for sadness; it's a time for celebration. So she will tell, this time at least, of a memory that still makes her smile.
"Back during the journey, I was still an apprentice, of course. Not much older than you are now. It was difficult, to put it lightly, to leave everything behind in search of a new home. But even in times of such adversity, SkyClan has always managed to have a sense of community that's kept me afloat. I remember one morning, I got woken up by my mentor at dawn to go hunting before we set off that day. My paws were killing me, and I complained on the way out, but there I was anyway, hunting to see if we could snag the kits and elders a bite to eat. Well, it had snowed the night before, so we weren't having much luck except for one mouse I saw a few fox-lengths away… it would have seen us in the snow - even with my silvery coat, I stuck out against all that white - so we decided to try and corner it from either side, to have one of us scare it right into the other's paws. I was gonna scare the mouse, but, well… the tree my mentor was hiding under decided it was gonna dump all the snow from one of its branches to come crashing down right over top of him. Hahaha, I still remember the look on his face!! I called him 'Snowyfur' for like, a whole moon after that happened." Sighing wistfully, Brightnose settles into a loaf, a soft purr escaping her. "And I caught the mouse too! Didn't go as we planned it, but hey, food is food." With a glint of mischief in her eyes, she lightly nudges Ptarmiganpaw, her voice lowering just above a whisper. "Hey, if anything funny like that happens with Hawkstar, you should totally tell me! I won't tell anyone else, promise," she assures them with a playful wink and flick of her tail.

"Brought a mouse. Wanna share?" Chewingpaw's piercing yellow gaze fell heavily on Dovekit, who approached her without much of a care in the world. The down-hued fawn tabby toddled up to her with a mouse in tow, plucked gently between still-growing teeth. A hot-aired snort rustled through the overgrown apprentice's nose. Kits. Ugh. Just being around the sickly-sweet kittens of Skyclan made her sick, as if she wanted to retch out all of the meager innocence left in her body, simply to distance herself away from their doting eyes and too-round muzzles. They came to her without fear, staring at her jagged jaws and sensing no danger. You'll learn. This world's not like the camp. But the scent of the mouse's flesh tantalized her, with the wolfish molly simply pointed her daggered gaze downwards, as if a predator who must fend for themselves now being offered something. Still, she did not stir from her almost-reverent sitting position. She knew she could not be greedy, not even where the warm food flowed like ambrosia (to her, at least, so bereft of actual generosity that anything aside from the margins or scraps seemed too opulent).

Batlike ears twitched frenetically as Dovekit mentioned something about Starclan, and why that nebulous and grand figure in the sky had carried them here. Along Acornheart's prattlings, that seemed to stick out to Chewingpaw the most. Molten eyes rolled towards Dovekit's paler and smaller form, though the she-wolf's face did not contort into a snarl. "Starclan..." The black roan she-cat muttered, as if an echo filed through her paper-thin throat, simply an imitation and nothing greater. To her, Starclan was no pelt of silvery stars, dotted so far above her that she could not even reach the idea of it with her own knelled paws. They were simply what they were when they lived - scared and sacreligious creatures. "Starclan brought us here 'cause there's more food 'n shelter here. Animals need food 'n shelter. 's all." Roughly-carved brows knitted as Deerkit trotted up and posited his idea, and her stomach seemed to toss itself at the very idea, as if curling inwards at the thought of being watched by some unseen force. Did they gaze at her as unkindly as the glaring lights of the old place? Did they follow her as cruelly as the Twolegs with lips curled up in delight? Did they crash down upon her as gracefully as the ravenous dog?

Can't ever be free. The grim thought pooled within her. To the tabby kitten's suggestion, though, she only rolled titan's shoulders. She didn't know any more than a child did.

APPRENTICE
SHE/THEY

DINGO

Creampaw and her sisters' warrior ceremonies were drawing close, she could feel it in her bones! They were all newly 12 moons by now and had trained hard under their mentors, the hardest part now was waiting. She couldn't help but to wonder what their new names would be though! Catching Hawkstar's voice-- Addressed to SkyClan as a whole but not from the leader's usual spot and instead amongst her clanmates, Creampaw at first startles thinking the ceremony might be happening right now but her curly pelt soon smoothes after hearing what the SkyClan king says. Tonight is a night to play, to dance! To save their worries for the morning and reflect instead tonight on their glories as a clan.

The curly furred apprentice had just nestled down and glanced up to start looking for a clanmate to call to when she was approached by a small kit who dropped a mouse at her paws before chirping their name, it was little Pearkit! Creampaw smiled at the kit and tipped her head to one side curiously, her flopped ears both leaning in the same direction as her head was tilted to. The kit seemed a little anxious and she knew that when she was that age she would've been the same when approaching an apprentice she wasn't as familiar with too! Pearkit was brave, braver than she had been for sure-- It would've taken much of Milkheart's encouragement to do what Pearkit was doing now. "Hi Pearkit!" She chirped back, patting the space beside her with a soft paw to encourage them to sit beside her. "I'm Creampaw, come sit with me and tell me your story of the gorge!"

It had felt like a lifetime ago that her and her sisters were still just little kits back at the gorge, Pearkit hadn't actually been at the gorge since they were too young to have been born yet but still. Creampaw wanted to hear its story, maybe they had heard a thing or two as kits tend to do or maybe it was made up! Either way she smiled softly as she took a careful bite of the mouse before nudging it gently toward the kit so he could have a turn too, nodding all the while as she listened intently to the kits' story. It was short and sweet and was for sure a thing that had to of happened to some cat at some point in time, she certainly loved chasing butterflies when she was a kit! Maybe the story was about her...? Creampaw giggled at the tale though, "That was pretty silly of them! I hope they at least got to eat the butterfly! I bet I did something like that once, I used to love chasing butterflies!" Her memories of the gorge were a bit fuzzy... She had been so little then, maybe even around the same moon Pearkit was now.

"You know Pearkit, when I was about the same moons as you I used to live back at the gorge!" She really had been so little then, had she been littler then Pearkit or the same moon? Either way she had been small! No bigger than a ball of cream coloured fluff really. And the gorge had felt so very big then, she wondered now that she was almost fully grown up if it would've still felt as big had they still been there. While some memories weren't the best from that time, what she couldn't ever forget was her first ever teachings of the Warrior Code, namely the part of the code her father had always put first and foremost as a caretaker in the clan. "Back when I was really little, even littler than now! When SkyClan still used to live there, I remember my papa Milkheart telling me and my sisters about the code, like how "no cat can neglect a kit in pain or danger, regardless of if they're clanborn or not" he always said it was the most important part of the warrior code and that kits are the future of the clan"

Looking to little Pearkit she wondered what the future of SkyClan would look like with them all grown up, what would their warrior name be? Who would end up mentoring them? Either way, the future seemed bright with kits like Pearkit around.

"Have you ever had mouse before? It's pretty tasty isn't it!" It was a smaller prey to have when sharing but it was delicious nonetheless! Given that they were still a kit too she imagined it was also easier for Pearkit to eat compared to some other prey.

It's the heart that really matters in the end

She listened attentitvely to the other warrior, nodding at his comments. Sure, the gorge would always be where she grew up, her first home... it was getting easier by the day to see that the pine forest was also becoming home for SkyClan. Even with all the nonsense from their neighbors.

"You're right," she mewed softly. "Though I do hope Hawkstar sees how much everyone's enjoyed this - maybe we can accomodate our old traditions a little more." She took a nibble of the prey and looked out over the other cats of their Clan - their family.

"And we've really been thriving here," she mused aloud, looking at the caregivers and their kits, the newcomers who'd joined since they arrived here. So many new companions that she wouldn't have had the joy of meeting, had they remained in the gorge.
OOC: Replying to @TAWNYBEAM here

The celebrations were in full swing, cats talking amongst each other, stories in the air, warmth amongst all cats. Starlingtrail couldn't help but beam at the sight of it all. She had been resting for a little while longer before joining, admittedly, her sleep had been fitful with nerves of her kits' apprenticeships on the horizon, but that wouldn't stop her from joining the good times.

Talking was always best paired with a nice meal, so the caretaker plucked a nice squirrel from the pile and eyes scanned the bustling camp, until her eyes fell upon Swallowbreeze. She didn't take a moment's thought to trot to the side of the molly, greeting her with a warm smile. "Swallowbreeze, my dear, are you well? I thought I would come and join you for the celebrations." Starling purred as she settled at the side of the medicine cat. She had always been such a lovely presence amongst the clan, ever careful and diligent in the care of her clanmates.

Looking out to the clan, her expression softened. "It's strange, really, to think just how much has changed since the great journey, how folks have grown and changed just as with the seasons." She hummed, meeting the medicine cat with a smile. "I mean, you alone have truly grown into such an admirable medicine cat, you've thoroughly flourished in this place." The caretaker couldn't help but commend Swallowbreeze; of course, it was her duty to the clan, but it didn't mean she didn't deserve her well-earned praise for all she had done for the clan. "These moons have not been the easiest for any of us, and I pray the moons to come shall be kinder, but I still look forward to seeing how much more Skyclan shall thrive."

But quickly, the caretaker grew sheepish as she chuckled lightly. "Sorry to get all sentimental, Swallowbreeze, but it's just nice to reminisce." She smiled lightly, curling her tail about herself.

skyclan is not an overcrowded colony, their numbers have risen slowly since their arrival in the forest. during gathers swallowbreeze feels cramped, even with the limited number of participants from every clan. she felt fine in her camp until hawkstar announced their nightly celebration, the molly figured she could spent it being a wallflower like she usually did, but the wills of starlingtrail had other plans. her ears quirk in the caretaker's direction, returning the warm smile.

"starlingtrail! i'm well, thank you, i hope your celebrations are plentiful." it was strange not seeing the molly with a gaggle of kittens in her shadow, but it's nice when you can get ahold of a caretaker in between kit–wrangling.

swallowbreeze begins to grow bashful from starlingtrail's compliments, grinning awkwardly, "please, i couldn't have done it without everyone's help." being a solo medic is no easy feat, but shouldering the responsibility when you're still a paw— she's fortunate to have gotten the patience from her clanmates.

"your job, though... a caretaker's duty has always been admirable. it's nice to see you so happy with chrysalisgaze. watching you be able to raise a family in a place that's safe, it's the most proof we have that everything's turned out okay." the young medic was born right in the midst of the uncertainty, the uncomfortable last few months of the gorge where cats awkwardly waited for coffeestar to rest eternally so they could leave. she spent her childhood worried about the future, and learning about the dangers of rats.

"don't feel bad, it's what we're celebrating tonight." swallowbreeze waves a paw dismissively, "it's important to remember how we got here, to remind us that it was worth it."

Peony isn't sure what a celebration necessarily entails. Everyone hanging out, telling stories, and eating... It's strange. Did all clans do this? They weren't sure. But it's alright, because she finds herself laying near Snowveil, listening intensely to a story of the code. Her head tilts as different points in the story. How could a cat be so good at hunting, so fast, so... incredible, really. She wondered if maybe the old Swiftflight had trained to be such a beast. To be terrifying in that way was strange. Peony sighs, glancing away and lost in thought... What kind of warrior would she be? Maybe she could be fast, or maybe a good hunter... Who knew. All she knew for right now was that she was hungry.
