The sun cast long golden shafts between the tall grass as Meadowpaw hobbled through the uneven field. It swayed in the breeze, brushing her flanks and legs with scratchy stems. Meadowpaw had already spent some time looking. A bundle of weeds and flowers bounced lightly between her jaws.

She hadn't gone far from camp—just beyond where the wind was a little more unruly and the scent of wild flowers was thicker. Meadow had passed the spot once or twice and thought she recognized a few plants growing that she'd seen in Gladebloom's den.

Her pace was slow and gait uneven as always, but no less determined. Every few steps, she paused to sift through the grass for anything that looked familiar or useful.

She wasn't that familiar with the herbs Gladebloom worked with, but she had learned that even if some blooms were useful in that way. So, she didn't mind the search. Yes, it was tedious, but she had more than enough patience for it. Meadowpaw was just glad to have something to do. A task to focus on when her legs couldn't carry her fast enough to help in other ways.

A breeze ruffled her fur as she nosed the ground, green eyes narrowed with focus. She didn't notice as another pair of paw steps joined her own…

Please let @Hootkit and @Swiftwatcher post first! Note this is meant to be more of a spree, so long as you don't post twice in succession, you can continue to roll for herbs!

SWIFTWATCHER OF WINDCLAN
Swiftwatcher quietly padded along, the steady rhythm of his paws a comfort more than a strain. A tired smile curled across his muzzle, one he wore like a well-used cloak, worn but warm. His gaze, keen despite the weight behind it, flicked briefly toward Hootkit, catching the kit's determined trot with a tilt of his head. Ever the shadow-chaser, that one. Hootkit had insisted on tagging along after Meadowpaw, all wide eyes and bounding curiosity, and Swift had relented, but only if he came too. He wouldn't chance another tragedy. Not again. Not if he could help it.

His eyes swept the underbrush for anything useful... Bark that peeled strange, leaves with odd colors, roots he might've heard Gladebloom mumble about, but it all blended together. Plants were just... green. He'd have to ask Gladebloom one of these days. Get the basics. Learn something more useful than just swinging claws. " Newleaf is treating us kindly... " he meowed at last, voice low but not grim, flicking his ears against the spring breeze. He glanced down at Hootkit and let the smile grow wider, warmer. " Want to ride up top, Hoot? " he offered with a chuckle, dipping his shoulder playfully. " Nothing wrong with letting those paws rest now and then. You've already marched half a fox-length. "

Then his gaze lifted to Meadowpaw, and there was fondness in it, though laced with apology. " Sorry to interrupt your search, Meadow dear. Little Hoot here just wanted to see you in action. " His voice was light, not teasing, but proud, proud of Meadowpaw, and proud of Hootkit for admiring her.

Cricketkit bounded after the patrol with a hop in her step and a grin that could rival the sun. " H-hey!! " she chirped, darting playfully around Swiftwatcher's legs and nearly tangling them both before she squeaked out a giggle and scampered to Meadow's side. She bumped into her friend with a soft thump, her good eye shining. " I can help too! Hoot is way younger than me! I'm practically ancient! " she declared, puffing her chest with mock seriousness.

A dull ache tugged behind her injured eye, just for a moment. But like most things, it passed. " We're looking for herbs, right? I've seen a ton of them with Gladebloom! When I was stuck in the medicine den, remember? You were there too! " she babbled, eager words tumbling out like pebbles in a stream. Her gaze swept the ground, alert, scanning and then... She gasped. " Meadow, Meadow! LOOK! A fluffy star!! " She darted ahead, circling a patch of dried poppy heads like they were treasure. She lifted a paw, motioning toward them with reverence. " These are the sleepy ones, right? Gladebloom needs these too! "

Pride bloomed in her chest like a sunrise. Meadow was her big sister for real now, she guessed lifethreatening situations tended to bond cats... And Cricketkit couldn't be prouder to be her little sister. Meadow helped everyone, even if she didn't have to. Cricket hoped she'd always help Gladebloom, even when she was a full warrior. Cricket decided then and there: when she grew up, she was going to help too. In her own shiny, Cricketkit kind of way.

Meadowpaw's dappled nose brushed the grass, her eyes brightening at the faint trace of sweetness. Nestled among the tall prairie blades was a familiar flower—a lovely shade of orange with crinkly petals. A quiet smile tugged at her mouth as she brushed its petals with her paw.

She still remembered what Gladebloom shared about them. How they could smell different depending on the season, and its versatility as a remedy for bleeding, sore joints, and infections. It amazed her still how much one little flower could do.

She was just about to harvest some when a familiar voice called out. Meadowpaw lifted her head, a soft warmth blooming in her expression. "Oh, hello Swiftwatcher." Her gaze slid from the warrior to the tiny kit at his paws. "It's no trouble at all. Hello Hoo—"

Before she could greet Hootkit properly, a blur of movement shot through Swiftwatcher's legs. "Careful—!" Meadowpaw lurched, heart catching for a moment fearing one of them might trip in the chaos. Thankfully, the warrior retained his balance, and both kits were fine.

She let out a small breath of relief, her tail flicking behind her. Cricketkit, of course. Always in motion, always bounding forward without pause. In the days she spent recovering in the medicine den, it had been that energy—so bright and unrelenting—that encouraged her to keep trying. As much as she struggled to match Cricketkit's energy, she could still bask in its rays.

"You can both help, silly." Meadowpaw giggled, eyes twinkling as she looked between them. "What about you, Hootkit? Wanna help look for herbs?" If they wanted to help, she wouldn't say no. The company was not unwelcome either. "You were wonderful company back then, I could never forget." While the diluted kit talked, she took the time to clip a few marigold stems between her teeth and tuck them into her fur.

Cricketkit wasted no time in her search. "A fluffy star…?" Meadowpaw hobbled up behind her to see what she'd found. "Oh, those are poppies, Cricketkit! Aren't they pretty?" She crouched beside the young molly to admire them. These were a little dry, but that wouldn't hurt nothin'. The useful parts were the seeds, which were dried before Gladebloom used them anyway. "Yup! They are the sleepy ones, but they also help with pain too."

She leaned forward, gathering a few of the better-preserved poppy heads and tucking them into the thicker fur along her flank. "I didn't even see them." She straightened and made sure the flowers were secure before turning to Cricketkit with a bright smile. "Gladebloom is gonna be so happy, really good job Cricky!" Already, they found some useful things to help. Knowing that they were easing some of the weight on both Gladebloom and the clan felt good. "Do you see anything else? How about you Hootkit?" Meadowpaw craned her head to see what she was up to.

Charitypaw floats alongside the others, careful to tread only on moorland grasses rather than anything that sprouts with fervor. The young molly couldn't tell a sprig of mint from a bushel of rosemary, to be true, but she could at least sniff out the difference between them and the to-be hay of their home. The pale moggy watches with delight as the kits grow eager to help and Meadowpaw, ever soft and ever kind, guides them about the fresh lands just outside of camp. Swiftwatcher is there too, of course; some warrior has to be around to wrangle this absolute mess of a patrol.

Her nose bumps into something white and fuzzy. Unfortunately for the medicine team, it seems to be past its prime for being useful to them. Fortunately, however, she can recognize this lack-of-a-blossom well enough.

"Would any of you like a free wish?" Charitypaw croons as she snaps the stem, drawing the seed-laden dandelion closer to the rest of the group. "I've heard that if you think of your wish very hard, and blow every seed off of the stem, your wish will be granted...!" She looks to Swiftwatcher, then Meadowpaw, curious to see if either will rebuke her whimsical fun. Regardless, she smiles, "Which of you wants to try first?"
