She moved close to the border, eyes scanning the other side of the river as carefully white paws moved alongside the reeds. The slight chill in the air had made it so the trip to the border had been a quicker one, less stops to fish on her way here and instead opting to hunt all on the way back and do it in one go if possible. She had hoped that while she was ot the border she would be able to see Boarpaw as she had a few moons ago for the first time, as she had only a moon prior before many of the cats of the clans had been chosen to go to the gathering while she had stayed behind and waited patiently - or so she had told herself - to hear the news of what had happened (or rather hadn't happened) at the gathering.

She was curious what had transpired in the moon that it had been since she had seen her now friend but curious all the same. Even if there wasn't much going on in the life of the RiverClanner - the fish were biting well, that was about it really - she wanted to know if he was diong well, even if it was just that the squirrels were running into their paws as they hunt.

//really quick opener but an opener nonetheless! @Boarpaw

It had been the first time Boarpaw had had the chance to wander again since the Skyclan scuffle, and somehow, he found himself wandering all the way back to the river. He'd decided to rest atop the rocks, curl up for a brief respite from... The heaviness of the camp. A lot had happened, and honestly, the noise in Boar's head had gotten loud, and a bit of peace at the river's edge might be enough to soothe it.

While his wounds had healed over, he was warned to be careful, and thankfully, where they were hadn't utterly inhibited him from moving about. But they were still awkward enough to send pain through his pelt if he didn't mind himself. The scarring on his face, where he narrowly avoided losing an eye, felt like an eyesore to him; he didn't even want to get too close to the water, just the idea of seeing where scars someday will remain made his stomach turn.

But, where Boarpaw thought he would be alone, instead his gaze landed on a white pelt, one that Boar didn't realise just how much he wanted to see again, his shoulders relaxing to see a friend. "Sthimmersthtone!" He purred warmly, smiling for the first time in days it felt like as he approached the water's edge, tail thumping behind him. "It'sth felt like forever-"

'-I missed you.' The last of his thought going unspoken, Thunderclan had been too busy, too loud and overwhelming, it was hard not to miss the quiet comfort that came with spending time with Shimmer at the river's edge.

It was hard not to peek her eyes up every now and then as she walked along the border, mark, peek, mark, peek, mark, peek, until suddenly the familiar lisp of tusks too big for mouth was calling her name and marking the border was forgotten, replaced instead by paws moving quickly to the very edge of the river the exact opposite of the Sunningrocks where Boarpaw had been only moments before he, too, had come to the edge of the river. For a moment she almost kept going, paws almost moved into the water or onto those stones that they had crossed only a moon prior to go onto those rocks but she stopped herself - for now - and instead waved her tail in his direction in greeting, smile evident on her face as she looked towards the other across that body of water. "Boarpaw!" She'd greet the ThunderClanner with his name, a nod of her head all he'd get for now in agreement to what he said about it feeling like forever - for truly it had.

And that's when she noticed it, the new wound fresh on his face - she didn't see the one on his side yet, the angle wrong to see it - causing her smile to falter, her paws to move forward, and without thinking she was crossing the stepping stones, agile paws accurate in their movements before she realized what she was doing as determination to get closer to her best friend, to make sure he was okay, leading her forward to her goal, to him, before she stopped on that last stone as she realized what she was doing and she held her breath, blinking in silent realization before leaning in closer to him. "What happened?" To him, to his face, to his flank now that she was closer and could see the wounds scabbed over that would eventually scar, "Who-?" He wasn't a fighter, it was something they'd talked about before, he didn't really enjoy it, didn't stomach it, despite his size, and she knew that these weren't deathly wounds but for some reason they still hurt her somewhere inside to see him hurt.

The grey tom lit up as Shimmerstone noticed him too, the molly smiling back as she rushed towards the river's edge. Compared to their early meetings, where she would be much more withdrawn, it brought him a welling joy in his chest to see her happy too. "You wouldn't believe how buthsy I've bee-"

But his face faltered as he realised what the white molly's gaze had landed upon. He breathed to speak, trying to reassure her, but within a blink she had crossed the stones and stood just a whisker's length from his face, leaning close as if she could see the very reason that had wounded him in the scarred flesh. Boarpaw felt his breath catch in his throat, not expecting her to get so close, but he could see the worry glitter in her eyes.

The oversized apprentice swallowed hard, stepping back a little as he looked to her with a tired sort of expression. "Well, there waths, a- uhm- Fight at the Sthkyclan boarder...." He muttered, quietly, almost as if there was shame. "My mama, Dewsthine, she was on that patrol, and I got worried for her. I tried to help fend off a warrior, and another one lunged at me." Boarpaw pawed at his face, wincing a little even having avoided his injury, giving a small dry chuckle. "Loonsthtar taught me well, I woulda... Lost my eye if I didn't react when I did..." They swallowed hard, like it was only dawning on them now how dire it had gotten.

Boarpaw shuffled awkwardly, averting his gaze from his best friend. It was clear he really did regret the fight. "I-I got so scared, Hawksthar killed my mentor, and then hearing there was a fight at the border, I didn't wanna be ustheless to help again." He deflated a little with that. It was such a strange back and forth, his disdain for harming cats, but just as terrified of those he loved being hurt.

The grey tom shook his head, a watery smile wandering back onto his maw. "But I'm okay, it'll scar, but Loonsthar said I did a good job, and I helped protect my clan." He needed the small upsides to it all, a little positivity to make everything a little less heavy. Boarpaw leant over and gently headbutted his friend with a widening smile. "Enough about me! Are you okay? How'ths being a warrior treated you?" They purred, warmly, they would rather take pride in Shimmer's achievements than mull on his own pitfalls.
