DUSKPOOL
It was a nicer day, and just about as hot as he expected, but that ain't to say he enjoyed the warmer weather. It felt damn good on his achin' joints, but his fur was an entirely different issue he'd been tacklin' since birth. Sure. It kept him mostly dry durin' the rain, but it sure liked to trap heat and just about turn him into cooked meat on most days. The temptation to go bald was lookin' real nice, but he ain't sure if lookin' like a half-dead raccoon would be any better, not with the amount of scars hidden beneath his fur.

Molten ember flickered, catchin' sight of somethin' slitherin' in camp. The hell? Brows furrowed, pivotin' to catch a better look when it finally registered. Either the thing ain't aware of where it slithered itself into, or what, but Duskpool ought to believe it was harmless enough unless it decided to bite. Then, well, it won't be such a walk in the park now, will it?

His war-torn frame pushed forward to drag its scaly body from camp when Chestnutpaw drew near, not payin' attention. Stars. His paw lashed forward before anyone could blink, Duskpool's claws dug into the scruff and yankin' back before the kid could step on it. "Get yer ass back here–" Not with his heart damn bear in his throat at the danger it posed, but just how unaware had she been not to see it? "Ya really got to pay attention, ya hear? Give me a damn heart attack, the lot of ya." He breathed harshly, withdrawin' to place a paw in front of the snake, wooly plumage swishin' the ground almost lazily.

"It ain't nothin' but a harmless snake, but gettin' bit will sure hurt like hell." He grumbled lowly, twistin' to scoop the garter snake, gaze lingerin' on its scaly frame with a hum, clearly unfazed. "And just who thought it was a good idea to come slitherin' in here, eh? Ain't got much brains now, do ya?" He muttered to the snake, expression deadpan, intendin' to put it someplace far from camp.

Oh it's absolutely dreadful weather! Far too humid for Chestnutpaw's liking and she's certain the flowers she had weaved in her tail were going to wilt underneath the sun. The gentle breeze was wonderful but that was probably all she could afford for compliments. With a huff she painstakingly untangled her hard work from her long fur, flicking the flora to the side and smoothing out any tangles that had been caused during their removal. It seemed to happen no matter how gentle she was unfortunately, absolutely dreadful for sure. There was a patch of wildflowers growing near the edges of camp, she's certain that they must not be of any real medicinal use because then they would have been taken already, right? Right!

Puffing out her chest the SkyClan apprentice walks with gusto and single minded determination. Head in the clouds thinking of the different ways she'd wear the flowers, maybe she would even gift some to her sisters. She thought the three of them would look cool with a united aesthetic like that. Oblivious to the snakes path in front of her she charges without a second thought, if it wasn't for Duskpool she might have trampled over the harmless snake entirely. "Hey!" Her meow is high pitched as she's pulled back by the scruff. "What gives you the right to-" Duskpool's bark has always been louder than hers, far more intimidating too. When he speaks she cuts herself off, fur bristling as she tries to reach behind her and smooth out the fur at her scruff to no avail.

"Snake? What snake?" Her voice trails off as her head swivels, looking around until finally landing on the slithering creature. It seems in a way it also had it's head in the cloud, huh. Well at least until Duskpool also grabs at it, what's with this guy and trying to wrangle the thoughtless? "Oh! Ew!" Taking a rather dramatic step back she feels her muzzle wrinkle in disgust. "Why are you touching it? Ewww Duskpool! I bet it feels all slimy!"

Swirlpaw, -- 8 Moons / Skyclan Apprentice -- Ages on the 5th
Brown and orange tabby chimera she-cat with mismatched eyes.
Daughter of Milkheart, sister of Creampaw and Nutmegpaw.
Tagging @Chestnutpaw

"Great job almost stepping on it, mousebrain," Swirlpaw taunted as she padded over, noticing the commotion from across camp. Of course Chestnutpaw was too in her head to notice the snake right in front of her! Swirlpaw would always notice a snake!

As she got closer, she cringed at the creature in Duskpool's hold. "Ewwww! Gross!" she said, before suddenly looking interested, "Do you know what kind of snake it is? Do you think we could eat it? Is it poisonous? How do you fix a cat when they're bitten by a poisonous snake?" She glanced at her sister, eyeing her up and down to make sure that she wasn't actually bitten before turning to look back at Duskpool, ears perked in curiosity.

While sounds of disgust swarmed around him, Jaypaw's eyes sparkled as he leaned closer to the garter snake. "What're you gonna do with it?" He hopped sideways as Duskpool advanced towards the entrance. Was he really going to let it go when it was being nice to him? Entranced by the futile writhing, he intercepted the senior warrior's path, staring him down with a mixture of judgement and pleading. If Duskpool was going to be boring and put it outside of camp, then he could at least give Jaypaw it!

"Can I keep it? Like, it'd be a cool trophy..."

The tabby bent down, inspecting the snake's stripes, the primal surge of his instincts telling him to back away. A snake sparked fear. It was perfect for -- "Or maybe we can use it in battle? Throw it at someone? It looks like it likes us. It's not biting you! I bet I- we could keep it." Jaypaw nodded. Surely if he shared it every now and then, it would persuade Duskpool to let him keep it.

A paw jabbed back towards the center of the camp. "It was already in camp. Maybe it wants to be a SkyClanner."

"I don't blame it," his teeth glinted with pride.

DUSKPOOL
He stared dumbfounded at Chestnutpaw and Swirlpaw's reactions to the snake witherin' in his grasp. He shouldn't be surprised. Mufflin' the need to laugh, Duskpool shifted slightly, careful of the snake's unhinged jaws, not quite willin' to get bit despite it bein' a harmless little bugger. "Harmless one." He remarked dryly,

At the mention of eatin' it, Duskpool felt a ripple of disgust. "Ain't got much meat on it." He mused with a deadpan thrum. Somethin' plumper would be more fulfillin' than this thing. Nothin' but bones ya be pickin' from yer teeth. He grunted.

With a disinterested expression, Duskpool huffed lowly. "Nothin' but a slow, achin' death." He answered gruffly. "Reckon Swallowbreeze got more of an answer than I do, kid." His mangled ears swiveled, pivotin' toward the camp's entrance to dump it some place away from the camp before it slithered its way into the nursery.

"Someplace away from camp." He responded to Jaypaw with a rumble, pausin' to stare down at the apprentice with a raised brow. "No." Came his deadpan response to both questions. Like hell he'd let the kid keep it, no less toss it at people. His gaze drifted to the witherin' snake tryin' to escape his grasp, chest heavin' with a great big sigh. Just what was it with youngsters these days? Curious buggers. "If yer that interested, stick close to me. I ain't gonna be responsible for one of ya kids gettin' bit because ya got to close." He grunted after a heartbeat, wooly plumage twitchin' against the ground.

"It would still hurt if it bit you" the point she made might have carried more weight if it wasn't spoken in a mumbled whine. Glaring at her sister as she swatted Swirlpaw's side, holding her head up high with her nose aiming towards the sky. She had always spoken her mind, a trait Chestnutpaw thought admirable up until it's aimed at her! Then it's just plain annoying. "I did no such thing" a blatant lie but she could maybe paint the narrative to be more favourable. "It's not my fault the snake was blocking my path Swirlpaw! Where were you to chase it off?" Spoken with a huff she smooths out the jutting fur of her chest, trying to cease it from bristling and fall in line with the rest of her pelt.

Her ear twitches with annoyance though she doesn't shy away from a placid smile as her sister prattles on with her questions. Chestnutpaw was just as curious, she had been happy to abstain from her own barrage of questions though. She could have been content enough if only one cat came across the scene of her foolishness. Then Jaypaw had to ruin everything and appear too! She could only hope that he didn't hear about her almost horrible blunder. A ghost of an undignified yelp that is yet to come plagues her mind, oh stars she bet the whole clan would have heard that if it happened. "You want to... keep it?" An incredulous stare is affixed to the tabby apprentice in the wake of his bright idea. "Why would you ever want to do that?" Maybe he saw something she couldn't, a foresight that could potentially rival Duskpool's own.

"I want to see where you put the little beast" she would rest easy seeing with her own eyes that it was far away from camp. While she didn't particularly want to be near the snake she trailed to stand slightly behind Duskpool. Hoping that if it did decide to thrash and bite then it would go for the far more appetizing meal that was the older cat. She didn't know if she entirely trusted his so called snake knowledge no matter how confident he may appear.
