sap and dewy leaf-litter highlight the scents of thunderclan territory… foliage dappled by tall oaks and grassy clearings. a surprising cropping of rocks freckle the territory, noted by the emptied quarry that they've repurposed to be their home. the porous earth is hungry for scents, making thunderclan one of the more easily recognizable clan smells…

traversing the patchy undergrowth often leaves thunderclan warriors littered with tangles, twigs stuck in fur where they've stubbornly traversed through grabby brush. grooming becomes an important part of their end-of-day culture, taking the time to weed the trash from one another's fur and prevent matting.

the typical thunderclanner adorns pelts that mimic the territory around them; browns, cinnamons and fawns are most common colorings and it's thought that tabbies better blend into the sharp shadows of the canopies. because of this, cats with green eyes and dark pelts are considered conventionally attractive while silvers, blues, and whites are more rare.

to accommodate the sparse forests they hunt in, thunderclan prioritizes teachings of stalking along the bush lines and tree trunks, using the natural coverage around them to close the gap between prey and predator.

RANKS
thunderclan typically hosts their meetings under the light of the sunhigh glow… when the clan is at its most wakeful, when they are most readily visible to the skies thanks to the bright light. ceremonies held at night are considered ominous, shrouded by only moonlight and exhaustion.

WARRIORS

. . . are those who have completed their training and have been given their warrior name by their clan leader. they are in charge of completing regular border patrols, hunting patrols, protecting the clan from threats, and nurturing the apprentices in their teachings to ensure clan survival. though an unofficial rank, senior warriors are those who've spent many moons honing their craft as warriors and raising up the younger generations to foster success for the clan. they are respected and are most likely to be selected to become storm guards.

by default all cats are warriors and warriors are expected to fight and defend their clan, but a warrior can opt to instead take on a specialized role unique to ThunderClan:

FORAGERS

. . . are felines of great resourcefulness... they're thrifty with what resources are available to them, reinforcing dens, shifting rocks to create tactical defenses, utilizing berries to alter scent trails and as a bonus, are particularly skilled nest-makers. this makes them something of a romantic catch for those eyeing a comfy bed to sleep in for the rest of their moons!

RANGERS

. . . are cats who have proven skilled with the use of their paws. these cats are few amongst the forest who are expert survivalists. Their ability to track scents makes them fantastic ambushers and they're often sent out in groups to hunt larger prey as a group.

STORM GUARDS

. . . are the chosen advisors of the current leader. these may be replaced under each new leader or may persist through multiple leaderships. they're often responsible for overseeing mass trainings, leading patrols, and offering counsel to the leader.

CAMP

an abandoned quarry with towering cracked cliff-faces on most sides, the tops of this ravine are lined in dense bushes and thorny greenery that creates a natural barrier to steer foolish wanders away from plummeting into the pit below. deep gouges in the sides of the walls make room for smaller dens and a fallen, cracked tree trunk makes for a natural enclosure for the leader to reside in. a few bushes that grow within the quarry's bounds have been strategically clipped and torn at the create room in the centers for nesting as larger dens but remain patchy as the clan develops new ideas for how to insulate their new home... luckily this sunken camp prevents them facing the full onslaught of the wind.

OWL TREE

a tree that stands in solitary scrutiny... it's said that a family of owls has roosted here for generations, leaving it to be a site encouraging wariness and avoidance. with a towering stack of boulders near by, it's not hard to guess why it might be favorable when so many rodents use this area to hide. it is a particularly tall tree and seems to be the source of many good-natured dares and efforts to hone climbing skills... you'll just have to hope the rumors about its inhabitants don't prove true. luck isn't always meant to be tested.

SNAKEROCKS

before the territory becomes split by harrowing, stinking tarmac, there is a notable cluster of rocks that crowd the edge of the forest. it's a great area for testing dexterity and can harbor smaller rodents as prey but we aren't the only ones aware of that... snakes grow comfortable here for their own hunting in the summer and seem the warmth and coverage of the stones when the air grows cold. be careful where you go poking your nose.

SANDY HOLLOW

a dusty patch of earth in the heart of the territory... it's forgiving texture under-paw makes it a fantastic setting for training apprentices in combat and its level surface makes it easier to focus on movement and mastering techniques rather than competing with the terrain. it is plenty large enough for a sizeable group to be hosted here, making it a hub for developing strength building skills and tactics.

SUNNINGROCKS

a beautiful set of flat-top stones that warm in the rays of the sun. these are an exceptionally favored spots by queens and elders looking to ease their soreness with a pleasant sunbathing. they lay close to the river and while they are not part of our defined, patrolled territory, their existence is known as a spot to relax and kick back.
CLIMATE, FLORA & FAUNA
generally noted for having warm summers and cold winters. summer seasons rarely exceed 90*F(32*C), totaling to less than 15 days out of the season. Conversely, winters are much colder, tending towards sub 20*F(-6*C) temperatures for the majority of these months. transitional seasons (spring and autumn) average closer to a crisp 50*F(10*C) temperature, noted by consistent rains as this territory expected roughly 15 inches (38cm) of rainfall each year. while these are not hard and fast rules for roleplay, it should summarize the general climate of our area!

POLITICS
SHADOWCLAN
"defectors and defiers"
relations with shadowclan prove complicated as many of their ranks remain friend or kin many of thunderclan's members. they are contriving, scheming and generally of questionable trustworthiness…. what prompted them down the path of treachery remains a source of frustration, as much of thunderclan believes it selfishly motivated rather than in genuine defense of the future. SHADOWCLAN was born of a mutinous and violent reaction to their distaste with ThunderClan's first leader THORNSTAR. Their willingness to murder for the sake of their own goals makes them untrustworthy however... today's SHADOWCLAN were almost all former members of the same COLONY that THUNDERCLAN was created from and so there are strings that still remain attached across their borders.

SKYCLAN
"reckless and ruthless"
relations with skyclan started well intentioned and quickly spiraled into distrust. they've proven to be emotionally charged and arrogant, touting themselves as closer to holiness through proximity to ancient history. they mention the original warrior code but do little to educate their neighbors, and are eager to break their own code in favor of violence. ThunderClan may view them as haughty, self-important and blood-thirsty after SKYCLAN'S LEADER, HAWKSTAR, took one of JUNIPERSTAR'S lives at the FIRST GATHERING. they are the second-furthest clan from our borders, making interactions unlikely and war harder to wage.

RIVERCLAN
"friendly and flexible"
relations with riverclan were quickly molded into something alike allies. though their first meeting was a matter of trespassing, PIKESTAR seems to be of a similar mindset to JUNIPERSTAR and values comradery and peace over greed. they have presented themselves as kindly push-overs with regard to ThunderClan, though this seems to be a mutual softness for one another. RIVERCLAN is handled with the care of friendship, hoping to remain close as tensions brew between other clans in the territories. there is some uncertainty that remains at the constant mention of SUNNINGROCKS, however . . .

WINDCLAN
"wily and wary"
relations with windclan are slow to form, constantly dancing between distrust and uncertain hopefulness. DUSTYSTAR has extended a bare minimum amount of trust to attend the FIRST GATHERING at the behest of JUNIPERSTAR, but following its rousing failure, has withdrawn such open friendliness. they are the furthest from our borders and so interaction is already limited, making it even harder to reform a positive reputation with the field-dwelling clan. we hope to maintain good graces with them, as the MOONSTONE dwells in the deepest recesses of their lands but only time will tell who WINDCLAN will ally themselves with.

LEADERSHIP GUIDELINES & RULINGS
Each leader will have their own ideas for what they expect of their clan, of what they believe in, of what rules are most important to follow and how they feel about other clans. They will also have different ideas for how a warrior should be named and conduct themselves, how apprentices should be treated etc...This will detail information on how the clan runs under the current leadership. To read back on former leaders you may check the next post and click the spoiler with their name!

RULES

JUNIPERSTAR'S rules. . .

Choose charisma over bloodshed until it is no longer possible. . .
JOINING POLICY

THUNDERCLANCLAN's general political stance is GUARDED. They tend to NEUTRALLY guard their border regularly, and see other clans generally with NEUTRALITY. In terms of allowing LONERS into the clan, JUNIPERSTAR will expect adult-aged cats to prove their skill as hunters to contribute but is otherwise welcoming (especially to those younger than twelve moons). In terms of allowing ROGUES into the clan, JUNIPERSTAR will be generally untrusting, offering them a trial period to be monitored by another warrior until they prove trustworthy but will be welcoming to those under twelve moons. In terms of taking in CARETAKERS WITH/OR KITS, JUNIPERSTAR is welcoming without much further thought or inquiry necessary.
NAMING CONVENTIONS

JUNIPERSTAR'S warrior naming conventions lean towards PERSONALITY and tend to use suffixes like. . . -heart, -blaze, -cloud, -dance, -frost, -light, -poppy, -storm, -throat, and -whisper to name a few.

JUNIPERSTAR would never use names that . . . reference blood, death or gore, highlight disabilities in a cruel way, or are otherwise reductive of someone's character.

JUNIPERSTAR is open to renaming ANYONE who REQUESTS IT within reason. Cats should not expect to change their name several times within a year.
