Ash Glade serves as a popular training ground destination for mentors to take their apprentices, but it is Juniperpaw's first time venturing out of camp to the empty grotto of sand and dirt surrounded by a lush lining of ash trees. Such a thing isn't her mentor's fault; given the difficult personal events she endured as a kit, it's taken some time for Juniperpaw to recover enough to fully participate in clan life and her own apprenticeship again. It's been a tough balancing act; to postpone making her an apprentice in the past would have drawn unfortunate attention to her and put her behind the others, but at the same time, becoming an apprentice only a moon later was something she was not ready for. In the five moons since her incident, and the four since she's been made an apprentice, her mentor @NightFrost has been kind enough to go easy on her -- per others' advice. While she's been taught some of the very basics in hunting, fishing, fighting, and other aspects of clan life, most of her time has been spent fetching moss, guarding camp, tending to the elders, kitsitting, and other odd jobs around or close to camp.

In the past moon or so, however, Juniperpaw's recovered enough and become fully engaged in the clan again. This is excellent news, of course -- but perhaps also more than a bit stressful for Nightfrost. Undeniably, Juniperpaw's performance in several aspects is much lower than other apprentices her age, and only somewhat above baseline for a newly made apprentice. The clan has been understanding given the circumstances, of course, so any pressure the mentor-apprentice duo may feel is more internal than external. Still, it'd be very embarrassing to be a fully grown cat still in the apprentice den! While there's still time with Juniperpaw being nine moons, she's soon to turn ten and there is much to teach her in a short amount of time if she's to graduate on a standard schedule. Juniperpaw herself has been trying to squeeze in as many learning opportunities as possible on her own time, and trying to practice with the other apprentices to absorb what they've learned.

And so, with this urgency and suppressed shame in the back of her mind, Juniperpaw dutifully follows after Nightfrost as he guides her to Ash Glade. As soon as their paws cross from grass to sand and dirt, Juniperpaw darts in front of Nightfrost, puffing her chest out and giving him an eager smile. "Nightfrost, sir, I'm ready for whatever you have in mind, sir! You just say the word and I'll do it! Or- er, um, not say, but..." She trails off nervously, clearly unsure of how to rectify her social faux "paws", given Nightfrost's muteness. She shuffles, then smiles at him again, friendly and full of thinly veiled desperation. "IIIII'm ready to learn! Is what I mean! From you! Anything! Very quickly! I'll get it down like - pat!" She stomps her paw against the dirt, then coughs at the cloud that poofs up. Good thing she talks enough for the both of them!

The Ash Glade is a great place to practice fighting, or to head onto a further location lush with prey for fishing and/or hunting training. It's up to Nightfrost and what he feels is most important to tackle with the delayed Juniperpaw first.

Please allow @NightFrost to post first, then anyone is open to join in! Maybe some other mentors and apprentices are here and want to do a co-training session. Maybe another mentor feels like Nightfrost needs some guidance with training, or another apprentice thinks Juniperpaw needs a friend to learn alongside! All up to you!

The morning sun had kissed the horizon and with it signaled a new dawn upon the Clan lands. It has been another long night for the large fighter, unyielding in his sense of duty to his home. Both of his flanks rose and fell silently while he sat among the grass poised like a Sentinel forever doomed to never move again. Though, soon a scent danced across the air, damaged innocence. His skull swiveled on his neck as his electric eye landed upon a two faced kit. Juniper Her smile was bold and almost hid her nervousness all too well. The tom watched as his ears twitched at her voice, eager and ready to learn all he had to offer.

A solid trait for such a young soul, eagerness backed by a pang of fear, it'd keep her alive one day. NightFrost had been told he was becoming a mentor despite his chosen stance on being non-verbal. Even being as opposed to the idea he would fulfill his role as teacher to the best of his abilities. The man took a step forward and his body lowered, more specifically his front end. Nose kissing the dirt at the kits paws. A knight bowing to a princess. Was she one? Probably not, but to him youth held a powerful aura. He couldn't bring himself to knock back her pride at such a young age.

Lesson day.

The behemoth should have attempted sleeping before this morning, but choices had been made and he had the will power to protect this tiny soul from whatever would arise. Death before her. It's just the way he was built, at the cost of his own he'd ensure she grows old. Enough of that though. The knight rose up and tilted his head in a clear signal. "Let's go. His muscles pulled and pushed his body as he started off with a brisk walk whilst ensuring she could keep up.

The trees rattled and echoed with the wind, leaves parachuting through the air as their life ceases. Leaf fall. Beautiful as it was somber. Would anyone join them on this day?"

————————————— ∘˙○˚.•

Kuhli and their sibling have been assigned to follow Nightfrost, to watch his and Juniperpaw's training, to learn more about the ways of this RiverClan. Kuhli obeyed dutifuly, eager to learn how to fit in with the clan properly, to be able to contribute and to repay their brother's kindness in letting them stay. This was the life they chose and they were going to adapt.

The two cats were to lead them to a place called Ash Glade to begin training and Kuhli followed, attempting to small talk, while not being distruptive. "So, Juniperpaw, what does a usual training day look like for an apprentice like you?" They wondered if it was difficult, learning to hunt in the wild. They had learned to hunt by themselves in their garden, with their pond, but that wasn't the wild, where prey knew it was preyed upon and did everything it could to ensure its own survival. This was the real wilderness.

Kuhli was aware of Brook walking alongside them and was glad for her company as well, someone who knew them well enough and could help, shall Kuhli get into trouble again, like at the river. Though they were determined not to embarras themselves anymore and to prove they are capable of living alongside these cats.

Reactions: Juniperpaw
As @NightFrost bows before her, Juniperpaw is momentarily taken by surprise. She then breaks into a grin, lifting her paw to partially obscure her face. She's simultaneously delighted and a little embarrassed by the princess treatment, but certainly won't complain. It puts her much more at ease, too, soothing some of that pressure and anxiety. It serves as an excellent reminder that she's got nothing to be afraid of with Nightfrost. He hasn't given her any reason to be, of course, as he's always been perfectly kind to her in his time as mentor, as demonstrated now. Even then, it's easy for Juniperpaw to feel intimidated by the stoic, scarred, electric-eyed tom. The silent behemoth both feels like a safe place and a twoleg trap at the same time; the latter of those is a feeling brought on by Juniperpaw's own past experiences. But she won't let them interfere with her growing friendship with Nightfrost, nor her ability to learn from him.

As he rose up and tilted his head, Juniperpaw nodded sharply and was quick to follow. At his side, it's easy to match his attitude and emulate that serious, brisk walk. Though compared to him, she has to make it more of a jog than a walk, given his size and larger gait. And try as she might to be as imposing as him, her bouncy walk and cheery disposition doesn't exactly scream fierce knight riding off in pursuit of fulfilling his duty. Regardless, his nature makes her feel as though she's marching off to a heroic battle as opposed to just doing some training. She was already determined and motivated before, but this is even more of a mood booster.

As @Kuhli and @Brookstorm fall into step alongside them, Juniperpaw beams over at Riverclan's newest members, a warm and friendly look in her eye. She's happy to have them join, not only for strength in numbers but to have company that can hold a conversation. She's also glad to be a part of welcoming and integrating them into the clan, and will do her best with it. Kuhli's question makes her balk a little, though; not that there's anything wrong with it at all, but just that Juniperpaw's personal history as an apprentice is unusual compared to others. There's no way Kuhli could know such a thing, though, and she pauses, thinking of a way to give a more accurate, average answer while also staying true to her actual experiences.

"Oh, I'm so happy you asked! Well, it varies depending on the individual mentor and apprentice, since a good mentor - like Nightfrost! - will tailor their lessons to the apprentice's and the clan's needs. Um, a lot of the basics we learn are about hunting, fishing, fighting, patrolling, and our history. Sometimes, we'll help out around camp, too. Lately I've been doing a lot of stuff like fetching moss, spending time with the elders and helping them, kitsitting - which is just the best, that's more a reward than a job, they're so cute! Oh-" She cuts herself off, realizing that she is both getting off topic and has been blabbing away.

She clears her throat. "Um, basically, learning all the stuff that every good warrior should know! So it's kind of like Nightfrost is your mentor, too, except you're grown cats! Ah-" She cuts herself off yet again, hoping that didn't come off in a negative way. It wasn't meant to be at all, but she realizes too late that it could be discomforting or irritating to be compared to a younger cat. "Which- is good, and not bad, or maybe just neutral! Yes, neutral! Um... What are you two most excited to learn about clan life?"

Reactions: Kuhli

Juniperpaw was a chatty young cat, and for that, Brook was grateful. He listened as the apprentice chattered on with Kuhli, her gaze flicking every so often to Nightfrost as he led their little group. He was a dignified-looking tom, and she had to give Pikestar credit for assigning him as one of their "mentors." The tom likely wouldn't entertain some of Brook's teasing, and he was intimidating enough that she didn't feel compelled to try.

"Most excited to learn?" Brook considered the question. He was pretty decent at fighting, for a kittypet, and not too bad at hunting and fishing. History and patrolling however...

"Well, I don't know much about the history of RiverClan," she admitted. "And I'm not entirely familiar with the territory either. I suppose that would mean patrolling is what I'm most interested in learning?" He laughed.

"Oh! I know one. How exactly does RiverClan pick who their leader is?"

  • BROOKSTORM — SHE/HE ・ 43 MOONS ・ RIVERCLAN WARRIOR ・ PENNED BY PLOT ・ SPEECHTHOUGHTS
A short-furred silver cat with black tabby stripes and scathing green eyes. The carbon copy of his brother Pikestar... only without the scars.

Very soon his son was going to to become a warrior and join their ranks. It was hard to look at the white tom and not be reminded of how small they once were. To think, this cat had followed them without anyone noticing all those moons ago. If someone told him he would have such a wonderful son back then, he wouldn't believe it. He'd given up on having a child of his own. Well... Iciclepaw wasn't his son by blood, but he considered the boy as such. Iciclepaw himself called him dad and each time he heard that title pass from the apprentices maw? His heart filled with joy. However, he knew he couldn't go easy on Iciclepaw. While he was a father, he was also leader of Riverclan. It wouldn't be right for the clan if he allowed Iciclepaw to become a warrior if he hadn't shown any survival skills. Not that I'm too worried. Iciclepaw may still be a little shy, but he's come a long way. He can hunt and swim. What should I test him on?

He isn't given much time to ponder when Nightfrost enters the Ash Glade with Juniperpaw and his two new 'apprentices'. While Juniperpaw keeps the attention of his siblings, he turns his attention to Nightfrost and flicks his tail in greeting. Then he turns to Iciclpaw. The pair had already practiced some battle moves and the day before they spent a good chunk of time swimming in the river nearby. He has been working hard these days. A silver paw ruffles the white fur atop his son's head,
"You've been training a lot. Let's finish early. You can hang out with the other apprentices here or go explore. Whatever you want, son. I'll go check on Nightfrost."
It's the only warning he gives to the white apprentice before approaching Nightfrost and his group of apprentices.

Green eyes glance at the three apprentices chatting briefly before locking onto Nightfrost's lone blue eye.
"I hope they haven't been too troublesome. I know three apprentices at once isn't necessarily easy, even for you Nightfrost."
Knowing you, you'll say it's nothing. As much as he loves when Nightfrost takes on things with little complaint, he also loathes it. They were close in age, yet Nightfrost carried himself as if he were moons older. The silver leader wanted nothing more than to shake the warrior and demand they rest, but the last thing he needed was Littlebrook to be yowling at his den.

For now, he turns his attention to the apprentices and smiles as Juniperpaw shares Riverclan's ways to his siblings. When she asks what they are most interested in learning, he can't help but have his interest piqued. While it is expected that Brook wouldn't know anything of their history or territory, he is surprised to hear an interest in patrolling. Before he can answer it, Brook asks about how exactly Riverclan picks their leader. It isn't something that offends him. She has no idea why he was chosen nor the way of the clans. It makes sense for his brother to be interested in these things.

"I was chosen by StarClan. The rest of the leaders from the other clans were chosen by StarClan too. Now it's up to us leaders to decide who will be the next leader when we die. I chose Frostmoth, so Frostmoth will be Riverclan's next leader. Just like Owlbark, Goldenroar, Flowercloud, and Wolfpack are next in line to become leaders."
He speaks not of the clan's feelings towards the other deputies. While it can be useful to Brook and Kuhli they had more important things to learn. The very first being the borders and how to respect them.

If Brook expected a better answer or a in depth explanation, then he would have to ask another time.
"You'll learn our territory in time, but if Nightfrost hasn't shown you our borders yet... I can show you two. You'll need to know them for patrols. Frostmoth assigns them every moon. Who knows, maybe he'll assign you two to a patrol next moon. Maybe you'll get to see another clan or maybe you'll be off hunting or gathering herbs for Jinglemoon. Sometimes patrols from other clans pay us a visit too."
He couldn't imagine that Frostmoth would want to send Kuhli or Brook on a patrol to another clan yet. If the deputy did... Well, he would respect the decision. Although, he would wonder if they were in a bad position if his deputy decided for the pair to be sent to the border of a neighbor. If anything, he expected the pair to be placed on hunting patrol duties. Maybe a herb patrol if Jinglemoon needed extra paws.
