OVERVIEW

Those familiar with Riverclan's ranks are certain to recognize Juniperpaw. It's not just for her striking contrast of black and white fur (though her ever-swishing, striped tail does tend to tip off prey easily, to her clanmates' chagrin). Even more memorable is her doting disposition, more becoming of a medicine cat or caretaker than a warrior-to-be. Juniperpaw's pale honey-gold eyes are always seeking you out, monitoring your moods to ensure you're happy, searching for someone to give a smile to. At Gatherings and even on patrols, other clan's cats are treated by her just as sweetly as if they were her own littermate -- excepting Shadowclan. Cats from there, for whatever reason, tend to be treated a bit more coldly on first meet. Nevertheless, even a Shadowclanner can earn her friendship, and they oft do.
The more skeptical may doubt Juniperpaw's saccharine nature, but her almost motherly mannerisms are all genuine. In fact, she can be caring to a point of suffocation or irritation, especially for cats meant to be her superior or who are elder. Fortunately, she tries to carry herself with a mature and calm energy, and usually is receptive to a polite request to tone it down. Tries is the key word, however; as an apprentice, she's not quite there yet, and can be quite sensitive and prone to pouting or emotional outbursts.
Another thing that Juniperpaw's clanmates know about her is that she loves love. One of her favorite pastimes is gossiping about real or potential romances, and asking couples when they'll have their litters (she needs to know when to keep her schedule clear for kitsitting!) Juniper herself wants to have many kits with the love of her life someday, whoever that may be. Though she has the best of intentions, she tends to be more than a little nosy and fancies herself a matchmaker. Tell her off about it and she'll say she just wants the best for you!
Juniperpaw is also spiritually devout, with a great love for and interest in Starclan. Despite being a regular cat, she does try to commune with Starclan, thinks she sees signs in everything, and sometimes acts as though she's an unofficial medicine cat apprentice. She also takes great pride in her clan and in being born and raised Riverclan.
Juniperpaw's clanmates are aware that, when she was a kit, she was mysteriously found outside of Riverclan's camp and brought back by Galepaw and Pikestar. Her father, mother, and sister vanished as well that same night. The cause is assumed to be the work of a predator that had snuck into camp. However, please be aware that depending upon the situation and how Juniper's character evolves, the following themes will likely occur often:
general poor mental health / survivor's guilt
self-sacrificial or self-harming behavior
domestic violence
obsessive, intense emotions
general psychological and bodily horror
My current plan is for these things to not be obvious to the general public and only evident to those close to Juniper. However, depending on how her story goes, these traits/themes could become more prominent and difficult to conceal. Juniperpaw was born in Riverclan alongside her sister to her mother and father.
Her mother was secretly mates with a Shadowclan cat (unbeknownst to him) who is the true father of Juniper and her sister.
Her non-bio father found out. Later on, in the middle of the night he asked mother to sneak out the kits and come to sit far outside the camp under the stars for cute family bonding, but there he confronted her about the lies and killed both mother and sister. He attempted to kill Juniper too, but anticipating his actions by using her empathetic powers for the first time, she fled into nearby water. He searched for her, but believed she must have drowned as she was a four month old kit at the time. He relented in his search and fled the clan territories, body never found. It is uncertain if he still lives.
Juniper washed up on shore, wandered around trying to find camp. Galepaw and Pikestar found her and took her back to Riverclan, asking what happened. A morning patrol found her mother and sister's bodies, but it was not understood what happened. Juniper was too traumatized and scared to reply, so the greater assumption was that a vicious predator somehow took the queen and her kits in the night without notice. Juniper's father must have noticed and tried to save them, then fled in shame and grief when he couldn't protect his family.
Juniper knows the truth, but no cat wants to relive such horrible memories in detail or inflict a bitter truth on others. Not only that, but her own personal distaste for Shadowclan keeps her from sharing the truth of her parentage lightly.
Swimming often elicits bad memories of that night, but the river saved her life, and no respectable Riverclan cat (in Juniper's eyes) should be afraid of the water. Through will and determination, she's mostly overcome her feelings about water, but they can surge forth in the worst of circumstances.
