The breeze combed gentle claws through her fur, carrying the scents of earth and distant rain, rustling the petals woven into soft curls. Meadowpaw paused at the top of the slope, breathing in the mingled scent of damp grass, old wood, and the faint traces of other cats that lingered.

She had never been outside of WindClan's borders before. Other clanmates had, but she didn't have their freedom—or their ease of movement—to slip away whenever she pleased. She didn't come alone, but she didn't mind the company either. Swiftwatcher was kind, and he didn't seem to mind when she slowed him down.

The giant oak that crowned the horizon was visible even from WindClan's territory, standing guard. Meadowpaw had always wanted to see it for herself, and today she finally had, even if it was under the excuse of looking for herbs.

But now that she was here, paws brushing through dewed grass, she felt something else. A heaviness, a hush that was different from the humidity that clung to the air. It made her pause, made her look up at the towering trunks, at the leaves trembling softly high above.

Carefully, she picked her way down the slope, minding each uneven step. Even so, more than once, she had to steady herself against Swiftwatcher's flank. "Sorry…" She muttered in apology as she found her footing again on flatter earth.

Already, she could see places where the grass grew rich, where plants might flourish beneath the shelter of the trees. Her green eyes swept over the clearing, searching, but finding nothing yet. "Have you ever been here before, Swiftwatcher?" Her gaze tilted up, following the oak's branches as they reached up—up—up, so high she imagined they might brush the stars if they only tried.

Because of the situation in WindClan and Meadowpaw's disability, she has to have a chaperone! I thought it would be easiest to get her here under the premise of a herb patrol. @Swiftwatcher @Moonlitpaw

IT'S BEEN DECIDED HOW WE LOSE
She doesn't know how long she has been walking when she sees the giant oak. She pauses with a sigh, before stepping closer. Moonlitpaw probably shouldn't be out here alone without her mentor or another warrior. She has been barely made an apprentice after all. She likely won't be able to really defend herself if something happens. Her parents won't be happy either about her dilly dallying instead of doing something useful like training or going on a patrol. A part of her feels bad about it. She wants her parents to be proud of her to truly love her. And if being perfect at everything she does is what it takes, when that's what she is going to do. Though a small part of her always whispers that she will never be good enough because so far she hasn't been particularly good at anything. The other part of her couldn't take it anymore, she just had to get out of camp. It's not just her parents. She feels everyone's prying eyes on her, constantly judging her, comparing her to her littermates. She just needs to be alone for a while, away from everyone's gaze.

It's her first time outside of Riverclan's territory. She hadn't had a particular place to go in mind and just let her paws carry her wherever. Now she's at fourtress for the first time. She had seen the oak already from afar, but it's even more impressive up close. She figures she can spend a little time here before going back to camp. There probably won't be anybody here, so she can be alone for awhile. Being away from everybody is just what she needs right now. On her way back she'll try hunting or doing something else useful. When she won't feel as bad about her absence.

Though the closer she gets to the oak, the more apparent it gets that she isn't alone. She spots two cats: a three-legged black and red tortoise and a gray tabby. She doesn't recognise either of them. They're not from Riverclan that's for sure. Could they be from another clan? She has heard that Riverclan isn't the only clan around, though so far she hasn't actually met anyone from another clan. She's unsure what she's supposed to do now. Should she say something to them? Or… should she just ignore them?

SWIFTWATCHER OF WINDCLAN
Swiftwatcher walked quietly beside the young medicine apprentice, ears pricked and yellow eyes sweeping the forest ahead. Meadowpaw had asked to search for herbs, and there was no way he'd let her go alone. He kept close, letting his long fur brush against hers when needed. Each time she leaned ever so slightly for balance, his smile only softened. " Sweet thing, you've nothing to apologize for. " he murmured, his voice a warm purr. " If you need a steady form, I do not mind being that for you. " A quick wink followed, fond and steady as the earth beneath them.

The trees around them loomed high, towering like ancient elders. Their branches whispered above like voices lost to time. " Mm... I have to admit... " he began softly, yellow gaze lifting, " I never came this close before. " His ears twitched at the memory, a small chuckle undercutting his words. " The cats who lived here... they kept me at paw's length. I never quite dared to cross. " He tilted his head toward Meadowpaw with a wistful smile. " I wish I had, though. I would've brought Bumblebee here. " His voice thinned just slightly. " She would've loved this. She saw beauty in everything... "

A moment passed, and he breathed out through his nose, eyes scanning the underbrush, letting the ache ebb beneath the moment. Then something caught his attention, a flicker of colour. He blinked and narrowed his gaze, stepping forward just a touch. " Meadow... " he said, gesturing with his muzzle toward a bush not far off. " Is that not a herb you might find use in? There, rosemary, I think. Used for... infection, yes? " He looked to her with a smile and a tilt to his head.

But before much more could be said, his nose twitched. There, not just leaf and bark. Something else. His ears flicked back, then forward again, tail swaying low. " Hmmm... We might have some company... " he said calmly, but with a note of caution. " Could be prey. Could be something more. " He moved just slightly closer to Meadowpaw, not shielding, but near enough to be between her and whatever it might be.
