Wave of the Shipyard
Wave observed the group with a thoughtful glint in her pale blue eyes. Much had transpired recently, a mother grieving a lost kit, injured cats seeking solace in the shipyard's fray. She didn't know all of them personally, but many faces were familiar, each carrying their share of hardship.

Flicking her tail, she took in a deep breath. What this lot needed wasn't just food or rest... they needed something to brighten their spirits. A story, perhaps. Wave smiled at the thought, recalling the tales her own mother and the old captain used to tell.

With a soft mrrp, she straightened and padded forward, her black-and-white fur catching the light. Confidence radiated off her as she planted herself before the gathering, her tail high like a mast. A mischievous grin spread across her face.

" Listen up, ye lot! " she yowled, her voice carrying over the murmurs. " All these gloomy faces... Come now! Leafbare may be looming over us all, but that's no reason to sit around mopin' and groanin'! " She swept her gaze across the group, her energy infectious.

" All ye young ones, gather 'round! I've got a story to share with ye. " she declared, her tone playful yet commanding.

Wave wasn't surprised when her kits, Rush and Cres, darted to her paws, their eyes gleaming with excitement.

" And don't think I've forgotten about the rest of ye. " she added with a flick of her tail, her grin widening as she glanced toward the older cats. " If ye've got moons on yer name, yer welcome too! "

As more curious faces turned toward her, Wave settled into her spot, her voice softening yet carrying the weight of a seasoned storyteller. " Now, let me tell ye a tale to warm yer hearts, a story of storms, stars, and what it truly means to find your way, no matter how rough the seas may be. "

Scale hummed softly to herself, her mind adrift as she nestled into the coziness of her makeshift nest. The rhythm of her quiet tune blended seamlessly with the gentle background murmur of the day. The peace was suddenly interrupted by a loud, ringing voice that jumped through the stillness, pulling her out of her reverie. The cry was quickly associated to Wave's name, and amusement flickered across Scale's rounded features. Curiosity sparked within her, urging her to investigate.

Stretching lazily, she stepped out of her nest and into the open, soft pawsteps barely disturbing the ground beneath her. She didn't have to search long to spot the older felines' familiar grin. Hmm… Couldn't hurt some folks' do need cheering up. With a sway in her gait, Scale waltzed over, her fluffy fur catching the light as she moved. Finding a comfortable spot nearby, she gracefully tucked all four paws beneath her, expression bright with anticipation.

"Sounds like fun!" She chirruped, her tone light and encouraging. Now Scale wasn't the youngest of the youth around but she certainly wasn't old enough to feel obligated to share a tale. After that, she fell silent, bright hazel eyes fixed on Wave with eager curiosity. The older molly began her tale, and Scale listened intently, intrigue dancing in her gaze.

Always walks with a jingle in his step! Good listener and ever curious about the world.

Jingle had been finding more and more ways to wiggle his way out of his twoleg's nest much more frequently lately, and now he almost always did it without their knowing too. Did part of him worry for how they might fret over his absence? Maybe! But the call to explore and adventure out by the abandoned docks was a much much stronger of a feeling! So off he went! He tried to visit the docks almost every single day though some days it just wasn't possible. Thankfully today wasn't one of those days and he was already eagerly making his way through the Shipyard. He knew by now too that other cats also came here, were they all visitors drawn here like he was? Or maybe some of them were more permanent residents of the lonely docks? He wondered what that would be like, living here down by the water and found himself not disliking the idea not even a little somehow. Perhaps his paws were yearning for something greater than the life his twolegs provided him right now?

His train of thought about a potentially different path was cut short abruptly when the yowl of another cat caught his ear. Jingle would pad on over to the source of the voice, a gentle jingling chiming with each paw-step he took thanks to the silver accessories that accompanied his blue tabby pelt. Eventually he would come across a small crowd of cats though it became clear quite quickly who the yowl had come from as the energy of the molly was something to behold! The way she held herself when announcing that she had a story to share drew Jingle in to take a few more pawsteps closer, he loved a good tale! Though he'd sit towards the edge of the gathered cats so far, tucking his paws underneath his tail as he did so. He still didn't know these cats well enough yet to get much closer-- But the adventurous part of his heart really wanted to know them more! He hoped they wouldn't mind him listening into the story. He'd do his best to sit still so that the bells wouldn't rattle as well as to listen in carefully, not wanting to disrupt the seasoned storyteller for even a second!

Wave of the Shipyard

Wave's ears twitched as she caught the faint jingling of bells, her pale blue eyes darting toward the stranger that had joined them. Curiosity sparked in her gaze, he was new to her, she did not think she had spotted him before... but she didn't linger long, soon enough, her attention shifted back to her mate. She squinted at him, that sly, knowing look on her face. He knew what came next. He always did. Well... mostly. At first, she'd had to nudge him along, making sure he followed her cues, but now? Now they were a proper pair when it came to spinning tales.

A soft mrrrp rumbled from her throat as she crouched low, adding a bit of theatrics to her words. " It were a stormy, stormy day aboard the Stormcatcher, " she began, tilting her head just so, her tone full of tension. " Rain were pourin' down, lashin' at the sails like it wanted to tear us all apart! Orders were bein' hollered left an' right by the ol' sea captain! " Her eyes widened for emphasis, sweeping over the younger cats nearby.

" The fury o' the sea were somethin' fierce... " she continued, her voice growing louder with the building storm in her story, knowing that Adder in his own right was creating sound effects to fit with the story being told. " Waves were crashin', the wind howlin' like a pack o' hungry wolves, an' it seemed like the whole ship were gonna be swallowed by the deep!" She paused, letting the tension hang in the air, her ears twitching just as the stranger's bells gave another faint jingle. She could use that.

" I thought to m'self... This is it... This is where th' end of my tale begins! " she spoke with a dramatic flair, her eyes widening a tiny bit before she quickly turned, peering at one of the other cats that had joined in to listen. " A mighty wave... High, high and higher was comin' t'ward us all! Threatening to sweep ol' Wave into the depths of the ocean! " she cried out, lifting herself up high in the air.

" But then... ! " her cry called out, her voice slowly lowering so the on-listeners had to lean in, hanging on every word. " In the middle o' all that chaos... a sound cut through it all. Soft, but clear. The jingle o' bells. "

Her gaze flicked toward the stranger, a sly grin tugging at her maw, then back to her kits, whose eyes were round as moons. " It weren't no ordinary sound. " she went on, her voice low. " It carried somethin' with it... a warnin', or maybe a secret, whispered by the sea itself. "

She shifted her weight, her tail flicking behind her as she straightened a bit, her grin growing. " An' then... " she said, drawing the moment out. " From the shadows o' the deck came a figure, cloaked in salt spray, their eyes gleamin' like treasure lost to the deep. An' 'round their neck... " She let her voice trail off, her gaze sweeping back to the stranger with the bells. " ...were those very bells. Their jingle cut through the storm, sharp an' clear, as if the sea 'erself had gifted 'em the voice o' the waves. "

The sun may still be in the sky but hearing Wave call out for a story made him believe that it was time to rest his sensitive eyes. They feel dry, he thinks it may be because the sun was out more today compared to others. Hopefully the warmer weather will still be as cloudy, whenever the beams reflect on the bouncing waves of the sea around the shipyard his eyes would hurt. She forces a loud yawn, not one of disrespect but one that indicated just how tired she was forcing herself to be. He very politely nudges past Scale and Jingle to sit by his mothers paws. Rather she was sprawled over the deck, laying beside his mothers paws. Even if her eyes were rested he keeps his ears wide awake, twitching and flicking at every sound and direction as Adder uses sound effects to compliment her mothers story. Stormcatcher sounds like a cool name, his whiskers twitch as a large white tail curls around herself with a content sigh.

Then she mentions the fury of the sea and she grows nervous, pink eyes shoot awake and he scrambles to his paws. Even if Wave is standing here right now she's fearful of her mother meeting her demise, what if the waves take her away? The ocean sounds so scary, she has seen it. Been in the waves, the waves look scary to her, how would they look if they were more angry? "No!" She cries out in fear as she jumps up, the story ready to reach the peak of it's excitement. There is an audible sigh of relief when the jingling of bells save her, he looks for Jingle in the crowd. That's so cool that he's named after the things that saved mama, there is reverence in her gaze as she tries to catch a glimpse of the bells hanging from their pelt.

"Did they stop the waves?" A timid and soft voice calls up, staring at his mother in anticipation. She must have been saved because she was here right now, but thinking too hard about that would just spoil the story.

If there was one thing Adder would always do—no matter how unusual the request—was support his mate. If she wanted to build towers of sand to touch the stars or hunt for treasure buried at the bottom of the sea, by damned he'd find a way to make it happen. Lucky for him, she hadn't concocted anything quite that wild yet. But even if she had, he would've done it without question. Sure, there were moments to be the voice of reason, but so far, she'd given him no reason to be.

So, he played along, as he always did, guided by her whims whether he realized it or not. By now, he was the well-trained right paw of her crew. And when she gave him that look, hinting at some half-formed scheme, he knew she was cooking up something beautiful.

Adder let her take the wheel, steering their grand adventure, while he manned the sails. His whiskers twitched with amusement as she set the scene, skillfully weaving her tale. His role, of course, was to keep their crowd hooked. Giving life to her story with sound, and he did despite struggling to match her level of intensity. "Wahhhhhhoooosh," The wind howled. "Crrrrrack!" The thunder rolled in the distance. "Crrrrreeeeak," The ship groaned as it fought against the waves. Might not have been the most accurate, but he tried his best for her.

Then Wave flicked her tail, and it was time. While the audience clung to her every word, Adder slipped away. Quiet as a mouse, he disappeared behind the scenes, the sound of the storm lingering in the minds of her listeners.

After a few, he reappeared from behind the crowd, still dripping from his dip in the sea. Around his neck were indeed bells, albeit tattered and rusty, washed-up treasures that had no doubt inspired the story, their sharp chime cutting the quiet as he stepped forward. Adder was cold and he nearly tripped on his own tail, but he imagined he was just as imposing and mysterious as foretold.

Always walks with a jingle in his step! Good listener and ever curious about the world.

It seemed as though the jingling of his bells hadn't disturbed the storytelling at all-- In fact he seemed to have maybe even inspired a part of the story instead! When Wave's pale blue eyes darted his direction he would give a slight curious tilt of his head, eager to hear her go on with the story! He'd lean in eagerly as the story continued-- Stormchaser was a fun name, was that what the boat was called? That's what housefolk called them right? Boats? He'd give his head a small shake to re-focus his attention back onto the story at hand.

It sounded as though the Stormchaser and its crew were in for a rough time! After all if it really did tear it apart what were the crew on board supposed to do!? Jingle would place his front paws more forwards as he leaned in even more-so, his blue eyes fixed on the storyteller herself as she continued. What must it be like being so far out at sea... He truly wondered, how did any cat manage to stay afloat for so long that they'd be surrounded by nothing but water? Had Wave been scared at the time? Those ships rode out to sea did seem massive and sturdy but what happens if the waves are so strong they send it toppling over!? So many questions filled his jingling head.

When Wave paused to let the tension of her story hang in the air Jingle could feel his pelt pricking with apprehension, even though they all knew the cat clearly made it through the story being told as she was here in front of them right now, she was such a good story-teller that she had the other cats on the edge of their tails waiting to hear how she made it through the perilous storm! With the added sound-effects being included to enhance the story too by another cat it really was a thrilling thing to listen to! He soon realized too that bells had become a part of the story and when Wave's gaze flicked to him he'd give a jolly smile and small shake of his pelt in order to make the silver bells rattle off their soft chimes, he was quite happy in playing along with the story as well!

But what secret or whispered warning did the bells of the story have to offer? Jingle's nose would twitch slightly at the strong smell of the sea followed by a jingling of bells that weren't his own! Turning his blue gaze he'd spot a cat behind the crowd who seemed to be still dripping with the water of the ocean! They must be the figure from the story! It took a lot for him to hold back his want to bounce around on his paws from the excitement but he did eventually manage! "What warning did they whisper!" He eventually managed to mew excitedly in question to Wave, his tail flicking lightly as he listened on.

Let's play like we're children and sing till the moons full

Before the day we turn to nothing but sand

The day was bright, the sun shining, and the waves calm and clear along the ocean's surface. It was the perfect day to fish for the colorful she-cat! She had went to the docks early morning, the sun still cusping over the horizon when she started. Peachy spent a few hours there, swiping at the surface every now and then when she saw movement under the waves. Yet, the sea was a fickle mistress. Despite all her efforts, the molly would be seen coming back to the shelters with nothing but a flailing crab in her jaws, held carefully so it didn't pinch her. Maybe she could find a rock to crack it open on.

As she approached her ears picked up the tell tale accent of Wave, her voice carrying with enthusiasm as she spoke. A curious tilt of the head was given as she swiveled her ears in that direction, picking up some of the words like stormcatcher, waves, depths. Wait? Was she telling a story!? Excitement flowed through her and her jaw opened to drop the only catch she had gotten today. Forgetting her would be meal for something much more fun, Peachy's paws carried her swiftly towards the group that Wave had called over. There was no way she'd miss one of the great Wave's stories! She always had the best theatrics with her mate, Adder.

Slipping into the back of the group as quietly as she could, Peachy brushed up against an unfamiliar blue pelt, her movement jostling of one of the bells in their fur. She jerked slightly, moving an inch away so she wasn't against the new face. "Sorry." The word was whisper soft, not wanting to disturb the she-cat on display for all of the shipyard to see. Not wanting to draw attention to her late arrival, the red tabby settled down with her paws tucked under herself, next to the strange, bell-adorned tabby. "I hope I didnt miss the good part. Wave's stories are the best." She was very careful to keep her voice low as she turned her attention back to the 'stage'.

Thunder was sound asleep when the story had begun, curled up amidst her siblings, trying to sleep away the bitter cold that came with leaf-bare, but hearing chatter from other cats stirred the kit awake; they hadn't been, but from earshot from the group and of course, the curious kit was quick to investigate. Curled ears perked forward, she listened intently, some strange mix of sound effects made by... Adder? Her eyes widened, tailing flicking, 'I better not be missin' one of Wave's stories.' she grumbled to herself. From where the kits were sleeping, she leapt down and shimmied past scrap and wood, her nose scrunching with the feeling of wet, slimy wood against her perfectly dry pelt. 'Ma can deal with that later...' she grimaced, shaking her body to wick off some of the moisture.

She trotted along, hearing some of Wave's story she kicked herself for having been asleep that whole time, whatever this story was was surely something amazing. Though she could settle and hear part of it, right where it seemed Wave might perish. Thunder stared up at Wave in awe; these stories always seemed to ignite something in her, the need for something more than lazing around in a Shipyard - she longed for adventure, for something exciting and to be able to tell the tales of her survival. Thunder was young, far too young for anything fun yet, but it didn't stop her looking up to Wave, wanting to be something more, just like her.

Thunder could smell the scent of the sea before Wave motioned behind the crowd, how it soaked into a cat's pelt. While Thunder missed much of the story, what little she had with such animation had Wave told the story, her eyes lit up seeing the cat - clearly Adder - adorned in rusted old bells and treasure which tinkled with every little movement, but that didn't stop Thunder's eyes glittering in amazement. "Are you really the cat who saved Wave?.." Her voice was soft, barely more than a whisper, almost awestruck as she looked up. It would be incredible if Adder could really cut through a storm like that!

Wave of RiverClan
Wave's whiskers quivered with delight, this was what she lived for: weaving stories so vivid that even the smallest listener could feel the magic within them. And as her young Crescent jumped to her feet with his eyes fixed upon her, she couldn't help the soft purr that escaped her.

Her sharp eyes flicked momentarily toward the jingling stranger, offering a playful wink before turning her attention to Adder. Her partner stood nearby, drenched from his escapade, washed-up treasures glinting faintly around him. Of course, she could always count on him to add just the right touch of realism to her tales. Her second half never failed to enhance the story's charm.

And now, the question hung in the air, weighty with anticipation: What words did the mysterious figure bring?

Wave's voice softened, each word deliberate as she crafted a web of suspense. " He stood there on the deck as though he'd been part o' the ship all along... Though none of us had seen him board. He didn't speak at first, not a single word. Just watched us, his eyes gleamin' like stars trapped in the darkest sea. And when he tilted his head, it wasn't like any livin' creature. No... It was somethin' else, somethin' eerie, like the wind itself studyin' the waves. "

She paused, letting the tension build, her gaze sweeping across the gathered cats. Crescent stared at her with unblinking wonder, his tiny tail curling closer to his side. Wave straightened, her stance commanding, as if she were back on the deck of the fabled Stormchaser herself.

" Then!! " she exclaimed, her voice rising dramatically. " The Captain, me brave, fearless sea captain! He stepped forward. " Her tone softened, brimming with quiet pride for the two-leg that had cared for her. " He puffed out his chest, standin' tall like a true leader o' the Stormchaser. And with a voice as steady as the tide, he asked, ' What business have ye aboard the Stormchaser, spirit? ' "

She leaned in closer, her voice lowering to a hushed, suspenseful tone. " The figure didn't answer right away... No, no, no. Instead, he lifted a hand, a hand darker than the blackest night with stars sparkling all over it... And from that hand dangled a small silver bell. "

Wave's eyes widened as though reliving the moment, her tone trembling with emotion. " It jingled so soft, so sweet, it made every hair on me pelt stand on end. And that sound... " She paused, drawing out the words as if savoring the memory. " It weren't just a sound. It was somethin' deeper. Somethin' we could feel. Like a pullin' at our very souls... A call to somethin'... somethin' lost. And every last one of us felt it. "

She leaned forward now, her face close to Thunder's, her voice no more than a whisper. " And when he finally spoke, it was like the ocean itself had found a voice. His words rolled out like the tide, soft but powerful. He said... "

Wave's tone shifted, melodic and otherworldly, mimicking the figure's voice: " ' This bell calls to the lost. Do ye hear its song? ' "

The words hung in the air like mist over the waves, each syllable laced with the weight of the unknown. Wave's piercing gaze scanned the small audience, letting the suspense linger like the salty tang of sea air. The story's magic was alive, carried by the quiet thrill of her voice.

SPOOKY

Just close your eyes, the sun is going down... You'll be alright, no one can hurt you now

Spooky had nestled himself into a cozy, well-hidden spot, where he could eavesdrop unnoticed. It was a delicate game he played... Sometimes he was too late to catch the start of the story, other times he had to slip away before it ended, too afraid of being seen and questioned.

But today... today was different.

Today, he had the perfect view, his wide blue eyes locked onto the storyteller as his small body curled tightly into itself, barely daring to breathe. He stared in awe, his mouth slightly open as the tale unfolded before him.

Stormchaser was bracing for a storm! And the waves-- oh, the waves! They were mighty and furious, crashing higher than Spooky had ever imagined. No... higher even than the angriest waves he'd seen on the ocean, when the sea roared its wrath.

The story pulled him in deeper, his trembling paws clutching the ground beneath him as the suspense grew. Then he heard it... The faint jingle of bells. It sent a shiver down his spine, for the storyteller had just described the same sound. His fur bristled as fear crept into his heart, and when the tale spoke of a drowned figure adorned with bells and that same drowned cat adorned with bells suddenly appeared in the corner of his eyes, it was too much.

A small, startled cry escaped him, unbidden. His voice was barely audible over the storyteller's words, but it was enough to send his body into motion. Without a second thought, he scrambled backward, his little paws skittering across the ground as he bolted into the shadows. He didn't stop running until he reached the safety of his hidden nest, his chest heaving with the effort to catch his breath.

Only then, as the adrenaline ebbed and silence settled around him, did the sadness set in.

He would never know how the story ended.

The kit was simply enraptured by Wave's tale, eyes glittering as she hung to every word; imagining the brave captain with Wave by his side, a truly noble crew. The scent of the sea spray was still strong in her nose; if she closed her eyes for just a moment, her body swayed as if she were there on that ship, how Thunder longed for that kind of adventure. With bated breath, she listened to Wave's story, her little tail flicking with anticipation, fur bristled with the faint tinkling of the bells not too far from her side as the older she-cat spoke.

But as Wave drew close to Thunder, her own voice just a whisper, her breath caught in her throat. As Wave spoke, as if she were channelling the spirit himself, Thunder's little heart thrummed in her chest like a spark of ignition. She'd always wanted more, excitement, challenge, adventure. Maybe she really could hear that call.

Many kits fear the unknown, but Wave simply proved to Thunder that the unknown isn't something to be feared but to be understood, to be challenged, to be explored. Though she had been asleep only a short while before, there was an energy that invigorated Thunder as she jumped up and stared back up at Wave, a grin on her face. "Then what happened!!" her eyes glimmering with a curiosity, "How did the spirit save the crew?"
