indentCold rain strikes against the backs of the patrolling cats. The thin, sleek coat Dustystar so prides herself on does little to protect her from the chill. It's a bleak reminder of what they have coming for them in the moons to come.

indent"Let's stick together." Dustystar has to raise her voice to speak over the noise of fast, rushing water through the gorge."We don't want to lose track of one another." She heads for the twoleg bridge spanning the canyon. Trying to look over the edge anywhere else would risk slipping on the rain-wet rocks that line the gorge. Falling in, Dustystar is sure, would be a death sentence.

indentA quick look over the side of the bridge confirms her suspicions. The rain has filled the river higher than Dustystar has ever seen it before. The water runs brown with mud and sediment, washed from whatever upstream brooks lie beyond the gorge. Anyone caught in the flow would be pulled under, or battered by the branches in the current.

Given the storms of late greenleaf, the gorge looks especially full- and loud. Can you even hear eachother?

Dustystar - 27 moons - Windclan Leader

———————————— The sun hesitates more on each evening's darkening ✦

Shivering from the icy cold rain slamming into their pelt, Sparrowpaw knew to bite their tongue as they walked close to their mentor. Sweetnose had been dutiful in their training, so the least they could do was keep an eye out for him. Through the thunderous weather so close to the gorge, they dread to think if he took one misstep.

They didn't mind a border patrol on most days, following Sweetnose's lead and greeting the occasional warrior from across the way. Sparrow had picked up that Shadowclan were far more personable than Skyclan, which seemed rather ironic since the whispers from Riverclan of what had happened so many moons ago had spread like a spark on dry grass through the ears of the clan. But this patrol was daunting, every last one of them soaked to the bone, and they had only just arrived at the Skyclan border.

Though the apprentice flinched, seeing the leader approach the twoleg bridge, they didn't dare approach the gorge, let alone the precarious thing those furless beasts had set up. Gently, they nudged Sweetnose's shoulder to get his attention. "We're nearin' the gorge, 'bout six tail lengths ahead." They half-shouted, usually they muttered first, where they would be promptly reminded to speak up, which of course they obliged. They never were one to holler, not like most've the clan it seemed, but now was no time to keep quiet.

That was what made the apprentice hesitate at the side of their mentor, eyes flickering from the gorge where roaring water was clawing at the edge of the rock face, then towards their leader. She was far too close, and it made their stomach turn. Sparrowpaw heisstated, for a moment, before steeling themself as they tenatively approached Dustystar, raising their voice over the cacophany of the weather. "'re ya' really sure it's safe, ma'am? " The tortoiseshell winced, watching the water lash up, making them nervous just at the sight, backing away slightly in fear. "I-I ain't sure I wanna risk crossin' that..."

Sparrowpaw was used to the safety of somewhere safe tucked away, comfort in the confined; it was hard for anything to go wrong when there was less to keep an eye on. So the whipping of the wind and crashing of the rain made their head spin as everything felt a little too big all of a sudden.
