Just like every other day, his paws feel too large.

Thoughts are just like that too- a body that moves like an awkwardly shaped truck that sidewinds, and a mind that's full of rambunctious thoughts that have nowhere to go. He's restless. He wants to get up and move. Cougarkit's eyes squint out towards the daylight of camp, where Jadethorn curls around him and his siblings tightly. But he wants out. They've been out before, he thinks, but his body wants to make it there. A quick, quiet glance towards Momma confirms that she is, indeed, distracted or resting, so he makes his move.

Cougarkit's paws place and pull against the ground before his thoughts catch up. He stumbles a little bit, large head tossing to the side before peering back forward again. He grumbles quietly and continues. The sunlight creeps closer the more he moves, body already tired from the distance- but then it's coating him. Golden and warm, his nose tilts up towards the green-leaf sunlight, eyes peering around camp with a slightly parted mouth. ".. Woah..." He whispers out, one of the more instinctual words he's come to know. "Big." Cougarkit states, his paws shuffling before he sits, the nearly two moon old kit looking about in awe.

Silentkit watches Cougarkit move quietly, studies the shape of him, his too big paws and the curve of his jaw. He stumbles, but catches himself. There's something about him that seems unsettled, a broken bone yet to be pushed back into place. But Silentkit does not push. She only watches. He makes a soft noise of amazement, and almost lazily, Silentkit draws herself to her feet and follows after her brother, curious. She is more coordinated than he is, though not by much. Her limbs are a little too long, angles too sharp, like a bone that didn't set right. The light of the sun hits her, too warm, too bright, as unfamiliar as it is uncomfortable.

She settles next to her brother and mutters, "bright."

Silverkit was more than content where they were, curled at the side of his mother, warm and round, rather stubby limbs splayed out as they watched with half-lidded eyes as Silent and Cougar left the nursery....

Left the nursery?! Their little face scrunched in indignation, if they could leave, so would Silverkit! Rolling over, the tiny thing pushed themself to their paws and trotted alone, wincing a little at the sudden barrage of scents stepping out into the clearing.

Cougarkit sat awkwardly with enormous paws, and Silentkit with her oversized limbs. All the while, Silverkit promptly got tired of standing and lay on the ground at the side of their brother and sister, the beating of the sun overhead tugging a smile on their maw. "Warm..." They muttered with a crackling purr, tilting their head up to feel the warm cascade over their shiny pelt.

DINGO

The shifting pelts of their siblings stirred Ghostkit from her own slumber as well, slowly blinking open bright eyes as a yawn escaped her tiny jaws. Lifting up her heavy head she'd watch as Silverkit got to their paws before noticing that Cougarkit and Silentkit were also no longer in the nest. Ghostkit would join in following after her siblings only after she'd nudged Amberkit with her little pink nose first, the nudge was kept gentle in an attempt to not disturb mumma but sharp enough to certainly wake her sister.

Waddling out after Silverkit her fur would prickle up along her spine at the warm sensation that the sun brought once outside-- It was still rather shadowy of course but not as much as being in the nursery was! One thing she couldn't help but notice too that was so much different from the nursery was all the noise. There was so much more sound outside in the camp! The buzz of activity, the hum of life. And so much to see... Ghostkit's eyes darted this way and that, trying to soak up every last little thing she could lay her eyes upon.

It was all so big and bright as well as being so warm too! And it was all so incredibly... "Loud!"

You got a whole lotta' nerve and a whole lotta' spite.

AND I AM SORRY MY CONSCIENCE CALLED IN SICK AGAIN

______________________________________________________________________

The nursery had never really been on his radar before– not because the kits or caretakers bothered him, but simply because it wasn't where he was needed. There was nothing he could provide to such young kittens that would be of any worth, save for the ensured safety of their den by his own claws and fangs. But they couldn't eat the prey he caught. Couldn't listen to the lessons or skills he might share. And he wasn't so naive as to think he could offer any kind of tenderness or genuine affection like Timberfrost or the other caretakers could.

So, in all the seasons he'd been with the clan, he'd never really bothered with that side of things. The nursery was a machine he had no part in– until recently. Now, there was something within worth the trouble of stepping out of his element, bloodlines that might matter to the muscular tom because they were his to shape how he pleased. Well, mostly his– but Coalstrike would forge them just as well, and Jadethorn was a survivor through and through.

They were far more promising then Sablestars half-clan brats.

Which meant their survival to apprenticeship had to be assured, which in turn meant that Wolfpack had become a far more present parent than he would have first anticipated of himself. Likely not in any meaningful way, and certainly not in the way that others were– but he made sure Jadethorn always had the best prey and good bedding. Would periodically stop to ensure there were no weak spots or drafts in the nursery walls that might bring a chill with the cooling weather. Would even give the mewling scraps of fur a curious sniff here and there to make sure they didn't smell of anything sour or worrisome.

He wasn't sure he'd call it 'caring' because it was hard to care about things that didn't have their eyes or ears open, or the ability to speak and get to know him, but at the very least, Wolfpack was certainly invested. And now, they were basically miniature cats– wobbling around, eyes open and tiny mouths spouting broken sentences and butchered words as they learned the finer art of language.

And yet, it still surprised him when his shadow fell across the nursery entrance that day and found nearly the entire litter peeking their heads out with wide eyes locked on the camp. And Wolfpack, who had no idea what to do with children so small, wasn't sure whether to usher such small things back into the safety of their nest, or welcome the into camp.

Deciding Jadethorn would skin him alive if she woke up and found her kits missing, he decided the mouth of the nursery would be where he drew the line for their little exploration party.

Big. Bright. Warm. Loud.

"That's Shadowclan." he informed them, after setting down the grackle he'd been carrying, turning to cast his mismatched gaze out over the clan for just a moment before glancing back down at the kits, and then to the bird at his paws.

He'd intended it for Jadethorn, but would it just be better to give it straight to the kits? They were old enough to speak and walk- sort of– so they could probably eat fresh kill now as well, right? Leaning down, he ripped a chunk of feathers out to reveal the meat below, before nudging it toward the kits.

"And this is fresh-kill. You've got teeth now, don't you? You can eat that if you're hungry."
