Mocha had not the faintest idea how she got so turned around. All she wanted to do was head home after her little adventure into the wild. The way back to her twoleg's nest had seemed so clear on the way her, but the moment she turned around nothing looked familiar anymore. If she hadn't know better she would have sworn on her life that she had never seen any of it before. Still, she had done her best to trace her back using familiar landmarks, but she was certain somewhere she had taken a wrong turn. Twolegplace should have been in sight by now if she was going the right way, but she had yet to even catch a glimpse of its lights on the horizon.

"Oh good gracious, this is just ridiculous!" Mocha huffed, her voice tinged with frustration and desperation. She did not want to be out here alone in the dead of night. Mocha was certain whatever wild and terrible things roamed the wilds once the sun set would consider her a perfect mark. She was, by her own estimation, plump and pretty and pitifully weak. In short, she was exactly she sort of damsel that got snatched up in the stories.

Slowly, she spun in a circle, attempting to scan the horizon for landmarks. It was to no avail, each tree and shrub looked as strange to her as the last. The only thing that looked even a little familiar was the setting sun, counting down the time until her doom.
 

Quailstep prowled through the territory, all her senses focused on finding and catching some prey. It had been awhile since she'd gone on a solo hunt, and while she loved the company of others, it was nice to hone her skills alone. And not only was she on the lookout for prey, but ThunderClan's treachery still loomed in her mind. If she saw one of those foxhearts on their territory, she had to be prepared to fight or run back for other Clanmates.

A squirrel chittered softly before rummaging in the grass for a nut. Quailstep felt herself fall naturally into her hunter's crouch, her back legs shifting back and forth to ready her muscles. When she was just about to pounce, the squirrel pricked its ears and fled up the tree - somecat was blathering on out here!

Keeping her position, Quailstep padded forward until she saw the culprit - the she-cat's long fur was incredibly well-groomed, and she didn't smell like ThunderClan... but what would a kittypet be doing out here?

"Are you trying to scare off all the prey?" she asked, her voice calm as she padded up to the kittypet, walking a circle around her.

A voice cut through her despair, and she blinked. Glancing around, it took her a moment to spot the wild cat approaching her. "Oh, hello!" Mocha greeted eagerly, glad to see someone who might be able to assist her. So eager that it did not even bother her when the stranger began to circle her. "My name is Mocha and-" Just then, she registered what had actually been said to her. She hesitated, tilting her head.

"Um, well, no? Not particularly." In truth she had not given a solitary thought to the idea that she might be scaring off prey. She had half forgotten that wild cats had to catch prey for their food at all, but what else were they to do without twolegs to feed them. Her brow furrowed. Perhaps she had committed a social faux pas without realizing by being so loud in her dismay. "I do apologize, I am just a bit worked up at the moment."

Her gaze wandered back to the setting sun. "I would so love to stay and chat, but I really do need to get home before sunset." Mocha took a step before remembering that she had no idea which way she was going. Turning back to the wild cat who had approached her, she asked, "Ah, do you perchance know which way it is to twolegplace? I think I got a bit turned around."
 

This kittypet has a funny way of speaking, Quailstep thought. Perchance? Who even says that?!

Still, she didn't seem to pose a threat, either, so Quailstep sat down, her tail twitching in mild interest.

"Why were you away from Twolegplace in the first place?" she asked. Most kittypets learned early on to avoid trespassing on Clan land. "Especially to get far enough that you can't find your way home!"

Mocha looked suddenly sheepish when asked why she was all the way out here. Her paws shuffled for a moment as she figured out what to say. "Ah, yes. Well, I feel rather embarrassed to admit this, but the reason I came out here was rather silly." Her plan for the day seemed so childish now that the sun was setting. This wild cat was surely going to think she was a fool when she heard why she had come all this way, but there was no point in lying about it. Her dignity had been lost with the way back.

"It has just been rather lonely in my twoleg's den as of late." She admitted, though she did not mention why. There was no point in troubling a stranger with Biscuit's sudden disappearance, or how it had troubled her. "I have been venturing out for the first time in quite a while, but most of the other den's near mine are shut tight. A friend of mine told me such interesting stories about the cats that lived out here, so I decided to see for myself. I followed the path he told me he took and ended up here!" Her memory of Biscuits stories had served her well. She had managed to follow it all the way here, and had seen with her own eyes the places he had told her about. Unfortunately, his tales had been more concerned with strange sights and daring escapes than the minutia of how he found his way home.

"I thought getting home would be as simple as turning around and going back the way I came, but," Mocha laughed, "it's now apparent that it isn't. I've gotten myself so turned around that I can't tell my head from my tail anymore." She signed exaggeratedly to make her point. If there was one talent she had, it was conversation. Though, perhaps she had gotten too caught up in it, she realized.

Mocha shook her head and laughed again. "Oh, where are my manners? Here I am babbling on and I haven't even introduced myself! My apologies. My name is Mocha, who might you be?"
 

Wow. Kittypets sure are chatty!

Quailstep listens and nods as the kittypet - Mocha - chatters about her Twolegplace friend who seemed familiar with the Clan cats. Huh, maybe someone else in the Clan had met this friend.

"Well, I'm glad you got caught by me instead of some other cat," she mewed. "Not everyone is so willing to let a kittypet off their territory without some scratches to keep them from coming back." Much like Mocha, they realized their name wasn't given.

"I'm Quailstep. I'm a SkyClan warrior," she said. "And luckily, I know the way back to Twolegplace. Why don't you tell me about these stories you've heard while I walk you back? Be interested in seeing if they're true."
