[ nobody panic she's not staying. but given the heavy rainfall in windclan's territory, i would say only someone with redolence could discern where she's from :) she's been swept right to the edge of the thunderpath, but not across it yet! ]

Lotuskit furrows her brows as she wrenches her paw out of yet another sink hole. The rain has made their territory so muddy, she thinks - she can't recall a single moor runner come home with paws as muddy as hers, after all. The tunnelers are a different story. Those cats take mud baths, she thinks. The rain grows heavier and heavier, yet as she crosses a fairly thick-scented line, the young molly finds that it lightens some. She thinks its the trees, as sparse as they are, that shelter her from the torrential downpour her home is withstanding at the moment.

Looking over her shoulder, Lotuskit tries to discern through the dark fog which way home is. Her lips purse into a thin line and she presses forward instead, sure that she'll make it back there again one day. Her pace is no longer impeded by the sky's sorrows, however with one misstep, she finds that its unnatural streams have become the new problem. Her paw doesn't sink into mud like it has been the last several strides, but instead is sent in front of her in one slick motion. She trips, evidently, and finds herself swept up in the makeshift canal, leading straight to the thunderpath.

Unceremoniously, Lotuskit knocks her head against the hard thunderpath stone. The young molly finds herself dazed, but quickly stands to her paws when the water tries lapping at her face. She frowns, leaning onto the paw that slipped, only to find how badly it hurts now. Oh, StarClan. Did she break something? A tremor of fear finally strikes her heart, and though the kit tries to regain her stature and certainty, it spreads with ease.

How am I going to get home?

The rain of late had been making it difficult to scent prey, but it was good for one thing - washing up little trinkets. Especially by the Thunderpath, where Twolegs tended to toss whatever they wished, or not return for whatever they'd lost. Therefore, Grayflight had determined it would be an opportune time to seek out some little treasures. Hopefully there'd even be something useful in the wash-up.

What Grayflight wasn't expecting was a kit. He'd heard of Twolegs abandoning their unwanted kittypets by the Thunderpath, but it had been a quiet night - relatively free of monsters. He put down the stretchy piece of Twoleg pelt [ooc: a scrunchie] and padded to the edge of the Thunderpath.

"Um, hello?" he called out. "Are you alright?"

In the morning when I wake and the sun is coming through
Oh, you fill my lungs with sweetness and you fill my head with you

.

Marbleshine followed quietly behind Grayflight, trying to stretch her limbs and get some exercise while she could. Her shoulder ached, but she prayed that with enough practice she might regain the strength she once had as a hunter. Still, part of her feared the effort, leafbare was just around the corner, and with it came longer nights, scarce prey, and the creeping thought that her usefulness might slowly slip away. Her brother's words whispered in her mind, unbidden. Was her soft heart a mistake? Did it lead her to choices she'd regret? Had her brother been right that day?

But she was here now. She had a family, friends, and kits she cared for with a devoted heart. And today, she had the company of Grayflight. " What is it you found, Grayflight? " she asked gently through the steady drizzle, her ears flicking as droplets clung to her whiskers. Then Grayflight called out, and her gaze shifted immediately. There, huddled and shivering in the rain, was a kit, lost, alone. Her heart constricted painfully. A child? What was a young kit doing out here by themselves? Had the Twolegs left it behind?

" Oh… oh dear… " she murmured, worry threading through her voice as she limped swiftly toward the kit, every instinct ready to protect. " Are you okay? Are you hurt? " Her soft blue eyes scanned over the tiny form, taking in every detail as though memorizing it to keep it safe. " Where did you come from? " she asked quietly, before glancing back at Grayflight, concern widening her gaze. " This weather… it's awful. We can't leave the kit here. Can we… can we take her back to camp with us, Grayflight? "

REPAY ME IN KIND

ShadowClan has been feeling the beginnings of leaf-fall particularly harshly. The return of the rainy season has made the marshlands unkind with regards to tracking prey, and Bluegale frequently finds himself frustrated on hunting patrols more often than not. It's one such patrol, he's divided away from his clanmates for a better chance of turning something up, but he finds that he reaches the thunderpath completely empty-pawed. When he rustles through the underbrush, he finds that Marbleshine and Greyflight are already there, peering down at something. He finds that he is disappointed that it isn't prey when he cranes his neck to see, but similarly feels a pang of pity take its place.

Bluegale almost feels bad enough to take the tiny kit under his wing. Almost. His conversation with Sablestar rings in his head, haunting him as it has over the past couple of days and weeks. It isn't about what Bluegale feels, it's about what Sablestar wants and what's best for ShadowClan. He thinks of Mirepurr. What would they think of him for turning away a half-drowned kit just because they didn't have ShadowClan blood...? What if he had done that same to their own son? He frowns. Bluegale nearly thinks to turn around and pretend that he hasn't seen anything at all. Concern edges in at Marbleshine and Grayflight's wants to take the kit in, and he suddenly feels that he should interject himself before it's too late.

"No," he interjects flatly, wincing slightly at the roughness of his own callousness "We shouldn't." He looks away from the kit, as if avoiding looking at her will keep him from being held accountable for turning her away. As if not looking at her will make her less real to him. "We should figure out where she's from, if it's one of the clans. If she isn't, WindClan or ThunderClan will be more willing to accept her." Bluegale looks down at his paws, suddenly guilty despite the sharp and impersonal refutal. "We have too many mouths to feed," he concludes weakly.

The rain had been a welcomed return from Sablestar as the pocosin returned to it's typical title of wetlands. The tuxedo would never have anticipated his territories climate to stretch on to the other's, not enough to impact them in the same manner at least, but he had noticed the way dark stormy clouds lingered between ShadowClan and WindClan's borders. Beneath the thick of petrichor and sulphur, however, is something more alarming. It's kitlike, and not one of Jadethorn's that is for sure.

The soft toned voices of Grayflight and Marbleshine echo between the brush and he appeared only moments after Bluegale's dismissive reply. Sablestar's gaze quickly fell to the kit between Grayflight and Marbleshine, and could feel the heat of his pulse thud against the side of his neck. How is it that this land orchestrated an attraction for every lost and sick kit within the forests radius? They were already overstuffed with the councils spawn, and he hardly had room to entertain the addition of Saffronkit already.

"Bluegale is absolutely right. Not every kit is ShadowClan's to claim." His voice is hardly above a growl. He thought of Jackdawkit and Hauntingkit, how they were obviously left in abandon. How Stoatstream had whined and pleaded for them to return the muck-ridden kit and preemptively pushing the load onto her father. The memory soured the leaders expression, tail lashing behind him as he made space between the warriors to get closer. "I'm sure you must miss your family. Let's get you cleaned up and on your way back to them, do you know how you got here?" He would chase down whoever he had to and shove this kit right back into their arms- she would not stay in ShadowClan for more than a single night.

Lotuskit, dazed and uncomfortable, doesn't immediately regain her full height. The young molly appears crumpled at best even as she redistributes her weight amongst her paws. She hears the voices that echo off in the distance, mediated by the tarmac of the road, but can't parse the words exactly. She grinds her teeth together in childish frustration as she stands taller finally, the ringing in her ears getting louder, and the pain in her wrist worsening. Pale blue eyes float over to the opposite bank of the thunderpath, ears craning backwards as she notes the bodies clustered there. None of them are familiar, but their frames fray at the edges, and their voices are dampened by the rain, and the ringing, and the incoming, pounding headache, and -

She pitches forward again. Her hurt paw slams against the hard, stone ground and the shock of pain shoots up her limb. Lotuskit cries out an echo of that discomfort but ultimately doesn't crash onto her face. She recollects herself to a crumpled stance once again, jaw tensing against the discomfort.

"I'm - okay!" she can't understand what they're saying amongst one another. That they're denying her safety and security for whatever reason they have. Lotuskit can only placate the worries she imagines they have. Perhaps it's for the better that she doesn't know of their denial. "I'm just going to go... home now..." yet as her gaze floats over her shoulder, back into the shroud of angry rain and discontented lands, it's evident that she doesn't know where home is.

"Uhh..." she swallows thickly, stands to her paws, and loosely decides that the thunderpath will lead her back to WindClan. "Uhhh..." she still struggles, her face contorting with her wrist, and she hoists it against her chest to limit the pain. "Have a good day...!" Lotuskit says, bidding them a farewell... and beginning her long stroll away from her home.

[ lottie will be out unless someone like. tackles her or smth. she's just shy of traditional apprenticehood however so she's no small kitten!! ]

Ah… She knew Bluegale spoke wisely, but StarClan, it still hurt to hear. This was a kit in need... A little one, out here in this storm and Marbleshine's heart twisted at the thought of leaving her alone. " I... I'm not leaving her behind until we figure out where she's from. " she said softly but firmly, her voice trembling with conviction. " Maybe I can bring her home. This weather is awful, she shouldn't have to walk through it all on her own. " Her gaze flicked toward Bluegale, understanding yet pained. There were too many mouths to feed, and prey was growing scarcer by the day. She'd been struggling herself, still favoring her shoulder and she knew each missed catch mattered more now than ever. But even so... she couldn't just turn away.

When Sablestar appeared, Marbleshine dipped her head respectfully, her fur bristling with a mixture of shame and defiance. " I know... " she murmured, " I know. But we can't just leave her here either. " she replied stubbornly, her eyes falling on the kit once more. She heard the way the kit's small voice wavered, claiming she was fine, though her eyes told another story. Marbleshine's heart cracked a little. The little one's paw was swollen, every step uncertain.

With a soft huff, Marbleshine bounded forward again, careful not to stumble as she came to stand in front of the kit. " I can't let you go alone. " she said gently, her tone warm but unyielding. " But I can help you get home. " Her gaze softened as she glanced down at the injured paw. " You're hurt... and if anything happens out here, you shouldn't face it by yourself, okay? "

He bristles at Sablestar's approach and response. This was a kit! Couldn't they at least spare a night in safety?

Now that the kit is at full height, it's clear she's not terribly young, but she does look hurt. The way her gaze is drawn back to the moor gives him at least a clue about where her home lies. It's likely she could make it home alone, but wouldn't it be safer with an escort? He nods as Marbleshine speaks, looking towards their leader with softness evident in his gaze.

"We really ought to escort her, Sablestar. What if something happens to her out on the Thunderpath at night?" He pads over to Marbleshine and the kit, looking back to the others. "I'll accompany these two, if you'll allow it."

If Lotuskit could easily redistribute her weight without concern of falling over or hurting herself further, she might've batted Marbleshine away. The warrior-aged femme seems intent on standing right where she wants to walk, and the waterlogged kitten can't quite fathom wandering around her fluffy frame. Lotuskit groans (one part true pain, one part true annoyance,) and takes a slow, calculated step back and away from Marbleshine. That space, however, is slowly taken up by another ashen furred warrior. Weren't you guys just over... there? She looks across the thunderpath again, and even the slow shift of her sight makes her unsteady.

"I'm fine - I'm no kitten...!" She mutters with a slowly increasing volume, though a part of her can tell that none of these strangers will let her go alone. Well, maybe the ones that linger across the monster's path. But these two are adamant on staying near her. "I... I don't even know where home is...!" She tries to prove a point to them, that following her anywhere would be worthless, but clearly to the adults, Lotuskit has blown open her story entirely. She tries to side step away from Marbleshine, but ultimately trips and lands on her side uncermoniously. The young girl grumbles and just lays in the mud, defeated.

Marbleshine's gaze lowered away from his, as the strain in her voice made him scoff in a mixture of disbelief and dismissal. How his warriors seem to twist his words was beyond him, sometimes. Frustrating in the least. "Did I say she would be left here, Marbleshine?" Sablestar snipped, watching as Lotuskit was intercepted in some odd approach at getting home herself. Her direction led somewhere into WindClan, a simple lead to follow, surely. If her home was not within WindClan, then maybe somewhere near. It was a grand distance for a kit to wander for by herself, though. Sablestar did not feel it worth the risk to let her go about it again and possibly walk into the jaws of something dangerous, especially in this weakened state.

"Knock the fuzz from your ears, the both of you, it's scaring the kit." Ridiculous, pathetically presumptive. Sablestar looked to Bluegale briefly, wondering if he, too, looked at the leader as if he had sprouted another head. "Of course she will be escorted. If you're done trying to tell me what is right, we will bring her into the prairies-" Of course, the kit still continued to struggle and protest. It seemed for all of Marbleshine's softness, she couldn't dull the sharp stubbornness that prickled from Lotuskit's fur.

Sabkestar approached closer after her small tumble. "It is worth it to rest before we try to get you back home. ShadowClan and WindClan are allies, even if you do not fair from there, they will treat you kindly." Could he trust the two softhearted one's to truly listen? If they were smart, they would keep their jaws shut and take to their orders. "The four of us will stay here until her strength is returned. Marbleshine, Grayflight, do not make me question your capability to obey- you will take her to WindClan and figure out where she comes from. She will not return to ShadowClan's nursery under any circumstance." The tom gave a lash of his tail in finality of his orders, looking between them (especially Lotuskit) sternly.
OOC:

Grayflight felt a ripple of unease run down his back. He hadn't meant to "disobey" or anything. He simply couldn't, in good conscience, delay acting. Nevertheless, he dipped his head to his leader. He would obey. He would be the quiet cat he needed to be.

"Understood, Sablestar." No point in trying to add any explanation or elaboration. His leader wouldn't take kindly to that.

The blood was roaring in his ears as he sat beside the kit, not daring to look at anything but his paws below him. He couldn't bear to have Sablestar believing he was disloyal - he had too much fear of being driven from the Clan, from his sister and her mate.

He clenched his jaw shut and waited, resolute, until the time came to take the kit home.

Relief softened Marbleshine's expression as she caught the spark of defiance still burning in the little kit's eyes. Good, she wasn't broken. That alone was something worth smiling for. But the warmth faded quickly when Sablestar spoke. His words struck like a paw to the chest, and her ears burned hot with embarrassment. " N-no, Sablestar... no, you didn't. I… " she stammered, her voice barely above a whisper. The scolding settled over her like heavy rain, and she ducked her head low, eyes fixed on the ground. She hadn't meant to make things worse, to frighten anyone, least of all the child.

Gently helping the kit to a more comfortable position, she stepped back. " Sorry. " she whispered softly, giving a faint smile. " I am sure you are fully capable to get home on your own... But I think with your hurt paw, it is best to do so together, instead of alone... " She wanted to add in a stupid joke, like... If a predator comes, atleast they'll come for me first.. But... Decided against it.

Respectfully, she bowed her head deeper, the motion small but sincere as she waited for Sablestar's words to finish. When the leader's tone finally softened enough to allow it, she spoke again, her voice quiet but steady. " Yes, Sablestar. " she murmured. " We'll make sure she returns home safely, and then we'll head back to camp. "

Her gaze flicked toward the kit for a brief heartbeat, worry still tucked in her eyes, before she drew a slow, steadying breath and fell silent once more.
