Cricketkit was not supposed to be this far. Her paws were sore, her sides heaved from the walk, and her fur was fluffed against the breeze that whispered between the great trees. Big trees. Big rocks. Big sky. It made her feel very, very small. It was absolutely breathtaking, however.

She stumbled a little as she made her way into the clearing, her good eye glinting with stubborn curiosity. " C'mon, Cricket, just a few flowers... just a few! Then you go home. Like a good kit... " she mumbled to herself, nose pressed to the ground like a tiny forager. She spotted one, a soft, bluish one tucked near the roots of a tree and gasped softly, padding toward it on light little feet. Perfect! Meadowpaw would love this one, it would look really nice.

But just as she leaned in, something snorted. Cricketkit froze. Her whiskers twitched. And then--

" YIPE! " she squeaked, stumbling backward as she came nose to nose with someone else, not a fox or a badger or even a WindClanner, but... but... " You're not WindClan!! " she blurted, staring wide-eyed at the other cat. Bigger than her , older! Apprentice-aged! A scent clung to them like leaves in fur.

Cricketkit blinked rapidly, puffing herself up, though it didn't do much to make her look braver. " You're not gonna eat me, right?? " she asked in a rush, tail twitching behind her. " ...'Cause I bite! Real hard! RIGHT through your tummy! " But even as she tried to look fierce, her little paw was still planted firmly over the flower. She hadn't forgotten her mission, not even when she was scared

————————————— The melody sings what the words can't say. ✦

Boarpaw again found himself out at fourtrees. He had grown... Restless... The last few days, his whole body seemed to ache; he couldn't lie comfortably in his nest, even with as much padding as he could scrounge in camp. He wasn't sure it was just his nest anymore, the ache wasn't just in his paws and legs, but his spine and even tail, it was dull and sometimes he could ignore it, but other times it was sharp and unavoidable. Tears pricked his eyes at the worst pangs of pains. But he didn't want to disturb Serpentberry, she was busy helping everyone else get better, he was just sleeping weird... Maybe...

It's what led them out here again. If he kept busy, then he could ignore the yawning pain, walking for so long that he left the territory and ended up back around the huge tree. Back where he met that Fleapaw cat and the... Riverclan cat was it? He was nervous to get reprimanded or anything for leaving, but maybe he could find some softer hay or even plants to soothe his aches.

This time Hope and Heart and Rattle weren't there. They were actually alone for once. They didn't want to make their friends deal with their grimaces in pain, so they searched alone. Their nose drooped to the grass underfoot, feeling for any softer moss, but something sweet scented caught his attention. A group of flowers caught his eye, he knew smelling strange flowers was kind of a bad idea, but these already smelled sweet, so he didn't hesitate to dive nose first to try and pluck some, he wouldn't eat them yet but maybe they'd be-

That was, until a tingling feeling made his face scrunch up. He tried to stop the sneeze, making some awful snorting noise and only half succeeding as he muffled the sneeze under his huge paw. Boarpaw let out a sigh, huffing at the flowers he had plucked, until his eyes widened, realising he wasn't alone, a tiny kitten he hadn't noticed before squeaking indignantly. "You're not WindClan!!"

Panic knit across his face, seeing her puff up, looking terrified. "I-I'm sthorry! I didn't sthee you there...." He muttered sheepishly, looking down at the tiny kitten with worry. Boar looked around, wondering if anyone was bringing her here, but by the scent of it, she seemed alone... But he paused, face scrunching up a little with what she said. "Windclan? There'sth another clan?" He questioned, stepping forward curiously, forgetting that he wasn't small like his friends, seeming much more the size of an older apprentice at this point.

"Eat you?" Boarpaw was taken aback by the mere suggestion, a little mortified she would even think that of him. "N-no we don't eat catsth, doesth Windclan do that?..." He managed to squeak out, a little more scared now at the idea that there was anyone else following the kitten out here. They didn't want to get eaten either. "I don't wanna fight, I wanted some mothffs-" Spluttering and stumbling on the word 'moss' made his face burn with a little shame, he'd been trying hard to get over his lisp but no matter how he tried there was no use in it.

He looked at the tiny kitten, sheepishly, trying to figure out how to show her he wasn't a threat. Boarpaw signed, a little resigned, sitting down with a huff. His paws hurt badly now, he'd walked too much, and standing around wasn't so fun anymore. The apprentice picked at his oversized paws before quietly mumbling "My name'ths Boarpaw, by the way. My home'ths Thunderclan." He flickered his tail back towards the trees, looking at the kitten with a slight curiosity. "Where even isth Windclan?"

Cricketkit's whiskers twitched and she blinked up at Boarpaw, her good eye wide as moons. He seemed… not very scary. In fact, he looked kind of like a soft moss pile might look if it became a cat. All big and fuzzy and definitely not the cat-eating type. But still... She had committed to the act! And once you commit, you had to follow through. That was, like, rule number one of Sneaky Missions. The little WindClan kit fluffed her fur even more, sitting up straighter and letting her tiny tail curl neatly around her paws in what she assumed was a very official, mature way.

" Ahem. you can call me Cricketpaw, actually. " she spoke, voice wobbling between her usual chirpy tone and something that was supposed to sound wise and dignified [ but mostly just sounded squeaky ]. " I'm in training. Advanced training. Yep. For super secret WindClan missions. That's why I'm out here. Alone. Because I'm... very advanced. " She gave a few serious nods like Meadowpaw did when she was explaining something important. Her paw was still on the flower, but she relaxed a little, seeing Boarpaw plop down and work on his paws. Were they hurting? She tilted her head. He looked… tired. Like he needed a nap and a cuddle and some warm milk.

" Well, um… no, WindClan doesn't eat cats! That'd be gross. " She made a face. " I was just makin' sure! You never know with strangers! My mama always said if someone gets too close, bite first and ask questions later! " Her gaze fell to his oversized paws once more and her eyes widened. " Woah... your paws are huge! Are you part badger or somethin'? " she gasped before blinking and scrambling to fix her manners. " I-I mean in a cool way! Like you could squish a fox in one stomp! That's kind of awesome… "

" Boarpaw's a cool name. ThunderClan's a cool name, too. Your camp in the trees? I always wonder things like that. We live... over that way. " She gestured vaguely with her tail in a direction that probably wasn't even right. " But I came here for flowers. For my friends. " she said quickly, puffing with pride again. " I collect nice things. Shinies. Pretty things. You got any? "

Her head tilted curiously. " If you give me a shiny, I won't tell anyone you were out here. Promise. " And then, with a mischievous grin, she leaned forward and whispered: " Secret apprentice code. "

————————————— The melody sings what the words can't say. ✦

Cricketpaw was really small for an apprentice, but again any apprentice looked kinda small next to him... Plus, that Fleapaw cat he met was super tiny, and she was an apprentice too! He wasn't going to question her, though, instead beaming as his eyes glittered. "Really?" His face crinkling with a smile as he stared at her curiously. "That'ths stho cool you get to go on sthecret mitthionths!" His pointed tail batted against he ground as he sat staring down at the tiny Windclan apprentice.

He had to giggle a little at the other's retort about eating cats, feeling a little reassured to hear there were no kitty cannibals in the forest. "You don't look like you'd eat catsth. But I don't think biting caths at all sthoundths like a good idea..." Boarpaw cringed, but then again, his teeth made his bite a little more dangerous, so maybe other cats could do that without really, really hurting someone? They would rather talk it out before hurting someone, though, that's what his Mama always said.

Though, he got a little flustered at Cricketpaw's sudden question, tucking his paws closer to him, feeling a little embarrassed. But he gave her a watery smile as she scrambled to correct her wording. "N-no I'm not a badger I'm just... Different." He shrugged, holding out his paw to Cricketpaw to show her his pawpads. Most cats only had four smaller pads on each toe, but just at a glance, with two extra toes on that paw alone made it all the more obvious he was even more peculiarly shaped than it first seemed. "I just got a few extra toeths, and uhm.. Claws." He flexed his paw, the extra toes with smaller claws, but they were still very clearly there. He was quick to sheath his claws, settling the paw down again, looking sheepish. "I wouldn't wanna sthquish a foxth I don't think, not unleths it waths hurting my friendths." He hummed, absently. Boarpaw knew he would have to learn to fight, but it made him nauseous at the idea of hurting other cats or even animals that were doing nothing but minding their own business.

But a smile broke across his face again; he would always love his name, for good reason, too. "Thank you, Junipersthar let me keep my name, Boar, my Mama gave it to me." He purred, though there was an air of sorrow to his voice. He missed his mama, but Cricketpaw didn't need to deal with that. "Your nameths cool too! I bet you're gonna get a sthuper cool warrior name too."

The tom hummed, looking around. There were plenty of flowers around, and Cricketpaw didn't really need help with those. But he recalled something shiny glittering on his way here. "One sthecond!" He grinned, standing up and quickly skittering off a little towards the Thunderpath. With larger legs and paws meant it didn't take him long to reach there, before his eyes settled on the shiny. Batting at it, he wasn't so sure what it was meant to be, a shiny, hollow cylinder. But it was okay, he was sure Cricketpaw would like it regardless. Held delicately between tusked jaws, Boarpaw trotted back to his new friend, eyes glittering with excitement. He had some lovely friends in Thunderclan, but making a new friend in a different clan was so wonderful! He hoped she liked the shiny... Whatever it was.

Quickly, he returned to the small calico, placing the treasure in front of her. "I waths gonna take it home, but you can have it insthtead!" Boarpaw purred, tail dusting the ground as he beamed to Cricketpaw. "I promisthe I won't tell no one you were here either! Sthecret apprentice code." He placed a paw on his fluffy chest, over his heart, like how he would always make promises to his mama. He took pride in maintaining his promises, after all.

Her single blue eye shimmered, bright and wild and full of starlight, like the cosmos had tucked itself into that little spark of hers. Boarpaw believed her. Maybe that was silly. She knew she wasn't really a paw yet. She wasn't on some secret, dangerous mission from her Clan. But it felt good to pretend. To share something fun with someone new, someone who didn't ask about her scars or look at her like she might break. The real world had teeth. It bit. It took. But here, with Boarpaw, it gave back something soft.

" Yeah! " she chirped, eyes lighting up even more. " I can make you part of the secret missions though! If you find anything shiny, super shiny, you bring it to me, okay? Like whenever we meet again! Or... ooooh! " Her voice pitched up excitedly. " We make a hidey-hole! Yeah! Like, right here, maybe! I'll mark it with a symbol, and it'll be our shiny drop-off spot! No one else can know! " Only Meadowpaw, because Meadow knew her symbols, though! She gave him a look of absolute seriousness for all of three seconds before it melted into giggles again. She bounced forward, peering down at one of Boarpaw's oversized paws. Her jaw dropped in pure theatrical awe.

" WOW! " she gasped dramatically. " They're amazing, Boar! You could protect everyone! " Her expression softened as she looked up at him, sincere now in a way that made her voice quiet. " I think your paws are really unique and pretty. You don't see ones like those every day. Nope, nope! " She gave a few quick nods to drive the point home. Then, when he mentioned her future warrior name, she stood as tall as her tiny form allowed, nose to the sky, chest puffed. " You really think so? " she beamed. " Yeah! Like… like Cricketleap! Or Cricketbloom! Or Cricketbite! Or... Oooh, Cricketsky! " She flopped dramatically onto her side, eye closed, paw flung over her face. " There's so many good ones, it's so unfair! How do I choose?! " Well. Okay, she didn't choose... Dustystar did. But still.

Yet in the midst of her dramatics, Boarpaw had already dashed off. Her ears perked up as she lifted her head to watch him disappear… then reappear with something glinting in his jaws. Cricketkit leapt up, practically vibrating with excitement. " OOOOOOH!! " she squealed as he placed it down, and she rolled the shiny object with a gentle paw. " It's perfect. It's shiny and flashy and hard! It won't break easy like wings do...! " When Boarpaw promised not to tell anyone, she didn't say thank you right away. Instead, she threw herself forward and bumped her forehead hard against his chest with all the affection her little frame could muster. " You're the best! Thank you!! " she declared proudly.

Then, with great ceremony, she sat back, raised a paw, and said with royal flair. " I now dub thee... Boarpaw the Brave! Official member of Cricket's Secret Mission Army! " She giggled, tail flicking with glee. " We're gonna find so many shinies. "
