The taste of kibble was still fresh, sitting uncomfortably as he stood amongst his peers like an empty vessel. Waiting for his host to return and put movement back into his limbs and fill his head with thoughts once more- it never came.

The return home after Hawkstar's announcement had him pacing around his twolegs nest even more than usual, and he had accepted their comforting pats and treats graciously and with tearful guilt at each bite and nuzzle. If he were to leave with his Clan, they would never forgive him. He would never get to see them again, absent of their generous affections and easy life. The tom had enjoyed living this little double life, contibuting to something that felt real. That felt bigger than him.

Now it was too real, he felt incredibly smaller than the task at large. Yet he still left his twoleg nest, even if to stand uselessly in the midst of the chaos, he was here.

"Oh, Flowercloud! I forgot to congratulate you yesterday, sorry. Um, you'll do an amazing job with Hawkstar. I just know it." His smile is forced, but his words are genuine. His former mentor had done a great service showing him the ropes of Clan life once, and already she was forming a legacy of her name.

She had the opportunity, if she so desired, to even back out. Return to Crows side, and begin the life of a Kittypet. But, it's not what her heart wanted. Her heart didn't want him- not anymore. She didn't want to have an easy life. She couldn't bare the thought of leaving her home to settle down with someone who.. didn't really care. Nor settle at all. Kibble was far from something she could feel accomplished to receive, and she couldn't do that to her kits, force that life upon them as Crow tried to do.

But the bile sat at the back of her throat, at the fact that Cygnet was in belief that he'd be coming. Her heart aches, thinking of their weary paws during the journey. Would they still climb upon her when their paws were tired? Or would they look down on that- would they seek to be 'all grown up' far too early for her mind?

Her thoughts were broken as Fujimoto neared her, her green gaze lifting to smile brightly at him, though concern laced her features as her ears folded back slightly. "Thank you. It means a lot. It's... Daunting, but I have faith." I have to, Hawkstar chose me.

"I'm really glad to see you, Fuji- are you.. will you be joining us?" She asked carefully. He may stand here, but the uncertainty in his gaze made her double back. "I won't blame you. It's.. a difficult decision, to leave your twolegs. They're like family. And I wouldn't be mad if you're just saying you're goodbye. But you're a good warrior, and as always, I'll be here for you." But I can't be if you choose to stay.

So many unsaid words, but she didn't want to sway the others decision too much. A neutral ground, hoping he'd open up and say his worries. And then, she could settle them.

Her honesty even now is refreshing for the red-and-blue patched tom, the tension between his shoulders finally sinking as they leaned closer to the deputy. "You should. Hawkstar made a good choice in you." Even if it was... unexpected. It was a surprise to many, including himself, to see all the Sun Guards scrapped from Hawkstar's council. He would have thought- well, if he were leader, he would have chosen someone familiar to be his deputy. Perhaps Mousefang?

Flowercloud's question came on an inevitable tide and Fuji can feel that pressure in his muscles building back up again. "It feels impossible." They blurted out first. "There's no right answer, but they both feel wrong. Either way I have to leave a family behind."

...You're a good warrior... Fujimoto swallowed dryly. That would mean nothing if he stayed behind.

He thought of Flowercloud out beside Hawkstar, with her children, looking across the throng of SkyClans cats. Each one of them under her responsibility, each looking to her for guidance alongside their leader. With Crow absent, she would have even more to miss of home. "I'll be here for you, too. For all of it, we'll keep each other safe." Oh stars, he was really going to do it?!
