"and this time, she won't be forgiving"
already the wind feels sharper. the ground is less forgiving with every rough landing from a frostbitten perch. it's a haunting reminder of what this time of year had meant when it had last reared its ugly head. and a warning not to let history repeat itself. there is a nervous anticipation that coats the back of their throat, like an itch that you just can't reach to scratch. it becomes an annoyance at first... then it lurches towards driving you mad. she clambers up onto the half-fallen trunk that demarks the entrance to her den, looking out at her clan as they crawl from the warmth of their dens (or what little warmth they can find; another issue to be addressed). they will become demoralized soon, if the fear has not already set in. "Good morning ThunderClan."

it is a gentler start, a still-frame moment where she almost looks like Juniperstar again, if not for the redness that circles dull turquoise hues. "Owlbark will be organizing patrols after I've gotten through my announcements. We have a lot of work to do to prepare for leaf-bare so you'll need to be well-rested from here on out. I won't hear excuses for being late to patrols, slacking on training or chores." firm, like a steady trunk in a howling breeze, but not yet bristling with thorny growth.

"I've had my guards oversee the status of some of our apprentices. We feel confident that some of them are ready for the freedom that comes with warriorhood-" she struggles not to betray her excitement by glancing directly at their successors. but it is hard.. and it is a bravado destroyed in the catching of Boarpaw's eye. "Boarpaw... Sandpiperpaw... and Flurrypaw, step forward." Boarpaw had been soft, a boy tempered by affection and compromise more than anything. she saw so much of herself in his trepidation and only hoped he wouldn't stumble into the same unwelcoming arms she'd found time and again. Sandpiperpaw, another of Magnoliapeak's apprentices and no less capable than Flickerdance... and Flurrypaw... vastly younger than his peers and talented beyond his moons.

"The moons ahead will be difficult... but I have no doubt you're ready to take on their challenges as warriors. Boarpaw... I stand before you as not only a proud leader, but an even prouder mentor. Today, you are Boarpaw no longer... I name you Boarthorn. Your strength, outside of just the physical, comes from your perseverance. Hold onto that, stay devoted to what you care for." quickly, she unseats herself to stand in front of her former apprentice, struggling to reach to press her nose to his cheek in congratulations before turning to the next.

"Sandpiperpaw, Magnoliapeak has trained you well... but your wit is all your own. No longer an apprentice, I name you Sandpipersong! Your determination will carry you far, don't forget to slow down and admire all you've won." the chocolate molly rests her nose briefly against the new warrior's forehead, drawing away with a small nod of approval before finding her last subject. hardly grown out of too-long limbs... cheeks barely carved into sharper planes than kitten fuzz would allow. but still... resilient. smart. ready. "Flurrypaw, you are young but capable.. and I would commend you as a warrior, knowing yourself to be equipped with all the skills you need to thrive. I name you... Flurryvale. You've proven to pick up on new skills exceptionally quickly, adapting to what's new without hesitation. Your loyalty shows itself in your work ethic..." a final, gentle touch against his temple before he too is unbound from being another cat's shadow.

she steps back, admires the three of her newest warriors and listens for the cheerful celebration of her clan before finding Owlbark, lips falling slightly into a dutiful sort of frown. "We will be attending the Gathering this moon again, I will announce my decision on who goes at another time... For now, please turn your attention to your deputy. And keep each other safe."

    leader of thunderclan
    six lives remain

The chilling air whined through the sheer sides of their gorge camp. It complained of the oncoming barren waste their territory would become. Owlbark was used to this song in his moons, and still shuddered at the haunting song. He was grateful to see the clan heard it too. They gathered at their leader's call with looks of apprehension and alertness to her words. The older cats had experienced leafbare before, and he was ready to whip the younger cats in to shape so they did not face the hardship the colder times brought.

He wound his way through pelts to make his way below Loonstar, sparing her only a glance. He had not found the time to speak to her after their altercation. Business discussions occurred, but he felt as if the ice of their relationship had cracked under pawsteps. It was becoming a splintering mess ready to shatter. He was unsure how to move forward without plunging into an unknown. For now, business. No more.

"Boarthorn! Sandpipersong! Flurryvale!" he called with the chorus of his clanmates. Owlbark was relieved to have more competent paws to help gather prey and herbs. Three more warriors who have proven that they are capable of holding their own. It was all he could ask for. StarClan above he hoped it was enough. These three will be busy tonight with being new warriors. He'd give them a break from patrols for today, as a gift.

The deputy rose and shook his pelt at his leader's dismissal. He shot back an equally distant gaze to Loonstar before turning to his clanmates. "Right. Like Loonstar said, we have a lot of work to do, so I won't tolerate any slacking or delay on these patrols."

His eyes moved through the crowd to land on a familiar lurking figure. "Blisteringfury. Please take Seafoambelly, Thunderflash, and Cinderstep to ShadowClan's border. This is intel. I expect to have a report of their border and any cats you see on your return," he huffed. He would not let Sablestar's clan slink around in their eponymous shadows while their eyes were turned to other clans.

Owlbark then looked one of his Storm Guard with a polite nod. "Ghoststrike you will be taking Stagwhisper, Midnightfrost, and Flickerdance to the RiverClan border. They seem to be eyeing our territory with expectant eyes, so regard them cautiously if they show face. Otherwise, I expect a hefty prey haul from you all." He gave a specially long look to Flickerdance, remembering the rushed information she brought to the council. Let her intuition guide her paws if things turned out how she assumed. A small test to amuse himself and possibly dig into Loonstar's flank. His own pelt prickled at the shock of how badly he wanted his leader to feel remorse. Interesting.

He shuddered away the thought and looked languidly to another Storm Guard. "Magnoliapeak, I trust you to take Brindlefeather, Graybird, and Grizzlypurr to our border closest to WindClan's border. Eye for some warm nesting materials for the nursery. Any extra will go to the elders. Thank you." After his run-in with the current batch of kits, he knew they would grow to be strong-spirited warriors. They had to live through leafbare cold in order to get there, though.

Last, and not least in the slightest, Owlbark looked to Copperstorm. "You'll be taking Gingerflame and Nightpoppy to the Four Trees to gather prey. You may run into SkyClan. Do not engage with them. They have proved unstable and quick to anger. I'd like to preserve our strength for more important matters than petty squabbles, please." He nodded once more before raising from his position. A single flick of the tail dismissed his clan to got their ways.

"Hazelheart," Owlbark meowed, stopping the Stormguard with a touch of his tail yip before she could depart. "You'll be joining Loonstar and I to collect herbs with Rowanpaw. I want to understand how we stand on herbs before moving further into the cold. Understood?" He had no knowledge of herbs or what stocks looked like, but he wanted to be around those who might when he chatted with Roawnpaw. He also hoped to ease the medicine cat's distrust in him. Having familiar and more cordial faces would help with that, right?
