They should have all eaten and arrived at the entrance to camp by the time Thunderflash specified. He had brought Hopepaw with him, letting him metaphorically hold a paw if he needed. The first day could be scary, he thinks, eyes trained out towards the territory as he goes over the mental map he had made in his mind. They had a lot of land to cover, and the sun was going to pass sunhigh at any minute now. When he turns, and sees the rest of the patrol approaching- or already settled and waiting for the last stragglers, a smile spread on his face. "Righ'. We're gonna do this quick n' dirty, just to get th' basics in. Yer mentors can spend more specific time with y' in the comin' moons in each spot. Y' got six moons or so to cover all th' nooks and crannies." He says, grinning wide.

Once everycat had announced themselves as ready, he nudges Hopepaw to his paws and begins to lead them into the territory. As he moves, he speaks to Hopepaw. "While we're in th' territory, especially while yer still young, do no' run off without me." He instructs. "There's predators tha' can hurt y', or worse, lad. Eventually we can move t' somethin' a little different, but not yet." He says, trying to stress the importance of not running off while he was still young. There's flashes of the cats killed in the battle at fourtrees in his mind that cause his stomach to squeeze uncomfortably. Hopepaw will be fine. Stop worrying.

They walked for a short while. "Th' first place we're goin' is th' Sandy Hollow. It's a good place fer trainin'- soft place to land when you work on your battle skills or yer huntin' crouch." Thunderflash says to Hopepaw, though he knows that other apprentices are probably listening. "You'll be very familiar with this place in th' comin' moons." He says just as they arrive to an expanse of sand. And true to his word, it looks forgiving to a body that may fall or stumble on it. Dust swirls softly in the air, indicating perhaps a bird taking off from the ground. His head tilts gently, as if looking for the offender, before he turns and smiles at Hopepaw. He expects questions. If not now, then later. Thunderflash waits for about five to ten minutes for conversation between mentors and apprentices, before signaling they were moving for the next landmark.

The next landmark would be... "This is th' Owl Tree." He says. It stands out, even at this distance, even as he approaches with caustious paws. His ears are perked, but more then that, his nose and eyes are more aware then his ears. It's midday, so no owl should be present. "You should not come here by yourself as an apprentice, especially at night. An owl lives in that tree- though I'm bettin' she's started a family by now." The word betting causes him to turn and grin at Ghoststrike, then looked back forward. "Y' can relax, fer right now. Owls aren't likely t' be awake durin' the day." He says, nudging Hopepaw lightly. The tree itself stretched into the sky, Thunderflash's head tilting back to squint up at it.

Hopepaw gets to the entrance to the camp around the same time Thunderflash does, and settles at his side quietly, looking out at the camp as others come to join them. A lot of cats. Too many, if you ask Hopepaw. He was sort of looking forward to going training with just Thunderflash, so there wasn't so much noise and distractions. But he knew this was important too, and that it was important for him to get better at… mingling… talking to other cats. Not just his family or Boarpaw, but… everyone else too.

His ears flatten when Thunderflash gives him a gentle warning. He remembers the time he'd gone with Boarpaw to fourtrees to look for herbs, feeling ashamed, but… he had gone with him to make sure he didn't get in trouble or attacked by predators. To protect his friend. That was okay, right…? And besides, he doesn't want to get Boarpaw into trouble, so… he doesn't mention it.

So he only nods, and says, "I won't."

They continue their walk and arrive at a place Thunderflash calls 'sandy hollow'. Hopepaw peers around his mentor at the expanse of sand, feeling suddenly curious. When Thunderflash turns to him, Hopepaw looks back up at him.

"How'd all this sand get here…?" He asks. "I thought sand was found on those… What do you call them… beaches? Near the… ocean?"

At their next location, Hopekit stares up at the tree, which is huge, just way too big. There's a suspiciously sized hole about half way up the trunk, and when Thunderflash explains what the tree is, Hopekit nods. He tells him that owls sleep during the day, and Hopekit blinks.

"Why do they sleep during the day?" He asks, looking up at the owl hole. "Do they hunt at night, then…? I guess they must have really good eye sight…"

His voice drifts off as he stares up at the owl hole, and, having never seen one before, imagines a winged creature with huge eyes and the body of a small badger, the only other nocturnal creature he knows off.

They scamper eagerly after Copperstorm, a whirlwind of youthful energy and untapped potential. A tornado of blue-grey rosettes ready to rip through the territory they've been barred from until now. "Copperstorm! Hey, can we walk up front with Thunderflash? I want to see everything!" Thistlepaw begs with a crooked smile and bright cerulean eyes. It would be such a shame to be stuck at the back of the group while they toured the territory – especially since this was a quick tour. Quick and dirty, Thunderflash had said. The mental image quirks a chuckle from the child of Thornstar and Serpentberry. They hope that that was just a normal phrase… mother may not like them coming home dirty after all.

Regardless of where they end up in the mentor and apprentice train, Thistlepaw dutifully sticks close to Copperstorm and listens closely to Thunderflash's words. They knead eager paws into the sand at the sandy hollow. They raise their eyes to the owl tree. They glance at Hopepaw with each question their fellow apprentice asks, glad to glean extra information.

" I think we can manage that. " Copperstorm meowed as he angled his pace to walk more in line with Thunderflash rather than trailing behind. " Just don't stray. Stay close and listen to what's said. It's how you learn. " His tone was gentle but firm, a subtle nod given to Thistlepaw as he spoke. A smirk tugged at the corners of his mouth as he glanced to Thunderflash. The air was light, for once, and he welcomed the warmth of the moment. He could feel Thistlepaw's eyes bouncing from place to place, taking in every rock, tree, and scent marker. It reminded him of his own first few treks through the territory, how vast it had seemed then, how full of stories waiting to be told.

There was pride there. Quiet, but strong. " You'll be seeing a lot of the Sandy Hollow yourself soon enough, Thistlepaw. " he added with a flick of his tail. " That's where we'll work on your battle skills. Softer ground makes for a better landing, especially when you're just starting out. " He threw his apprentice a wink, warmth evident in his gaze.

As the group moved closer to Owl Tree, Copperstorm glanced up at the high branches, squinting into the shadows that lingered even in daylight. " Owls have sharp eyes. " he murmured. " Best hunters at night. If you're ever wandering after dark... try not to look like a mouse. " He smirked as he turned back toward Thistlepaw, tone teasing. " Or you might just end up someone's midnight snack. " His grin lingered as he bumped shoulders lightly with Thunderflash. " You're doing well. " he said under his breath. A quiet approval, spoken without fanfare but sincere all the same.
