with every new day came the return of normalcy... or as near to it as Juniperstar could cling to and be contented by. no more hobbling about with a barely restrained grimace, no more anxiousness bottled up on her chest for fear of being caught. (like she were a kit prime for scolding rather than a leader at all). it is brushed aside now like it's nothing but a thing of a past, an easily whisked away memory, dismissed quickly so as not to be reminded of the cold, yawning dark of death.

"I think you're plenty old enough now," she declares, glancing between the oldest kits in the clan with an encouraging smile. from here on out they would get the chance to explore.. to run around, to hone their claws. they were going to be perfect, the spitting image of Thornstar's great personality and brighter skills. "ThunderClan- gather," she turns to clamber up a makeshift perch, bounding like she too is filled with their youthful energy.

"Today we welcome new apprentices in their first steps towards becoming great hunters and powerful fighters. Leafkit, Thistlekit, Rattlekit, Heartkit and Hopekit, come stand up close where everyone can see you." relish in the spotlight! stick out their chests and grin towards the stars hidden behind the sunlight. "You're ready to begin your training... and so I give you your new names, until such a time comes that you're ready to become full warriors of ThunderClan..."

"Thistlekit... you shall now be Thistlepaw. I'm entrusting you to Copperstorm. Rattlekit, we welcome you as Rattlepaw and you'll be trained by Ghoststrike. Hopekit, enjoy being Hopepaw... I'll have Thunderflash train you." if no one else then her own guards should be most trustworthy in raising the next generation, shouldn't they? "Heartkit, you'll be known as Heartpaw and your mentor shall be Houndhowl!" her eyes drift towards the last of their ceremony recipients, certain there is bound to be some sort of argument from those that love Leafkit most for this one-

Just trust me...

"Leafkit... from now on you'll be known as Leafpaw... and... I'm leaving you in the care of Stilldream." she doesn't give much pause, doesn't wait for the outcry of his mother. "She's more than capable of keeping you safe and teaching you what you need to know." well.. "All of your mentors are."

a spotted tail curls with practiced confidence behind her back, glancing between the shuffling new pairs before deciding her work here is done. Asterkit would get his chance once he stopped sneezing long enough for her to trust the floral expanses beyond the camp wouldn't trap him in a fit. "Please keep an eye on the borders- the other clans are forming... less than fond bonds and I'd like to keep ThunderClan out of harm's way."

He was already standing when Juniperstar called the meeting, towering at the quarries edge, having just stepped from the deep gouge in the wall that was his personal den. He still hadn't moved from the solitary space he'd claimed behind the medicine cats back when the clan had first settled. It was much smaller than the actual warriors den, but it was easier to shut his brain off and actually sleep when there was on one solid entrance to watch and no other bodys to account for.

Training'll have to wait. he thought to himself as the shecat took her usual place. She looked better than she had in weeks, as if her death had cleansed her of the infection she'd been dragging around with her since the rat bite.

He made his way over like every other time, taking his typical seat on the outskirts out of habit despite being one of the higher ups, now. Were they meant to sit closer to the front? He hoped not. While the job was one he was willing to do, he hadn't much interest in being in the spotlight.

The meeting got right down to the business at hand– kits becoming apprentices.

It shouldn't have made his skin itch the way it did.

Amber eyes watched them come forward. Four names. Four paths. He forced his thoughts to stay silent. Put the memories to rest before they could fully form.

Things would be better here.

Already were.

"Thistlekit… you shall now be Thistlepaw. I'm entrusting you to Copperstorm." He made a mental note on it, just to keep track of who was with who.

"Rattlekit, you'll be trained by Ghoststrike."

He met her gaze from across the clearing for the briefest second, nodding without any real indication of his feelings on the matter. Just another responsibility accepted. Then, those dark, amber eyes shifted down to Rattlepaw.

"We'll get started after the meeting." he announced, leaving no room for argument.

Son of Serpentberry and Thornstar. He wondered, idly, if the kit knew of the legacy they carried in their blood. What their father died for. How he died for it.

Not my business. the masked tomcat thought to himself, and he wouldn't entertain talk of it if Rattle tried to initiate.

Ghost was there to train them, and that was all.

His ear twitched once at Thunderflash's name being called, but he didn't search the others face out in the crowd. Instead, his gaze shifted to the kit that'd been paired to him.

That mask.. He remembered them. Remembered the bold questions about him and the other Stormguard and the almost mocking dream that'd come the night after. The whole thing spelled trouble, but Ghoststrike wasn't about to complain.

It was nothing he couldn't deal with.

Full of mischief and curiosity! Rattle doesn't always do the right thing but always does what he thinks is right.

Rattlekit stood tall with pride but was also clearly giddy with excitement too as he and his siblings as well as Heartkit and Hopekit were called forwards at this moons' meeting. Today was the day they were set to become apprentices finally! His amber eyes never left Juniperstar as they announced their new names as well as who would be their mentors in turn. Thistlepaw would be mentored by Copperstorm which would earn an eager purr from Rattle as their brother, Copperstorm was part of the Storm Guard and he was certain they'd be a great teacher to Thistle. Then came his own new name and mentor! The newly named apprentices' tail would stick straight upwards like a newly born kits with the only difference being that the tip of his tail quivered back and forth like his namesake.

Ghoststrike was to be his mentor! On top of being probably the coolest looking cat Rattlepaw had ever laid eyes on he like Copperstorm was part of the Storm Guard as well. Rattle's own bright amber eyes would meet the darker amber eyes of his mentor as he looked up to the older tom. The apprentice was already excited to get started on his training so hearing Ghoststrike announce to him that they would get started after the meeting made his tail flick back and forth eagerly though he did his best to remain sitting for now, giving his mentor a firm nod in response. Rattlepaw would briefly cast his gaze up to the sky and wondered if his father could see them, if he knew his kin were becoming apprentices today and if he was proud. He hoped he was proud! And if not well then Rattlepaw would make him proud!

Thunderflash was to train Hopepaw, which made him glance up to his mentor briefly again- Did that mean they'd get to train together? He thought it was best not to ask during the meeting itself. Heartpaw would be taught by Houndhowl and Leafpaw... "What!" Stilldream?! He couldn't help hiss out his surprise and would quickly search the rest of the cats for the familiar sight of his mother to gauge her reaction to this decision before then looking to Leafpaw, what would his brother do? Was this really okay? He trusted Juniperstar to make the right choices but mother hadn't seemed very fond of the cat chosen to be his brothers' mentor...

OOC- Dizzy!! So excited for interacts and to see how their dynamic turns out!

Stilldream's tail curled around her paws as she sat near the edge of the gathered crowd, pale fur shimmering brilliantly in the sunlight. Her lavender eyes were half-lidded, a pleasant smile on her face. Juniperstar bounded up to her perch, voice ringing clear as she began the ceremony.

She stifled a sigh when the first apprentice was named, the ritual rolling forward as it always did—bright eyes, puffed-out chests, the hollow thrill of names shifting like water over pebbles. Then her name was spoken and as gifted a pretender as she was, not even she could hide her shock.

She blinked, jaw agape, trying to determine whether she had truly heard it or if her mind had simply fractured under the endless chatter. But no, the eruption of murmurs and the prickling on her neck told her otherwise. Goodness after that whole herb debacle, this was the last thing she needed! Was Juniperstar trying to condemn her to an early death? What she needed most now was to lay low, but Stilldream supposed she couldn't have nice things anymore.

Her ears unwilted, expression smoothing into something more cheery, but the faintest tension pulled at the corners of her mouth. More than capable, Juniperstar said. As if that had anything to do with it.

Oh, yes, I very much want to waste my time babysitting the sniveling parasite that came from your body. That makes me so happy. What an honor!

Stilldream's eyes slid to the small creature, studying the new apprentice with a facade of enthusiasm. Leafpaw, was it? Her stomach lurched, nausea sticky in her throat.

She could feel the stares already. The hush that fell over the gathered warriors, the near-visible tension in the air. The molly stood, her movement as fluid and graceful as water as she approached Leafpaw. She let her eyes rake over the apprentice before lowering her head. "Leafpaw," She hummed, soft as drifting snow. Her vocal cords strained, but she quickly tuned it into a sound sweeter than birdsong. The white molly leaned down to briefly touch her nose to the apprentice's forehead. "It is an honor to be your mentor, Leafpaw." She purred. "I hope you'll be patient with me as we learn and grow together."

Things could be worse... Maybe this was a gift in disguise? Something she could use to repair her reputation? A nuisance certainly. A disruption and a burden, absolutely. But Stilldream supposed even she could find the opportunity in a pile of dirt.

Copperstorm's ears perked as the clan began to gather, golden eyes scanning the crowd with calm curiosity. A low purr rumbled in his throat as he leaned gently against Dewshine, brushing his flank to hers in a quiet moment of affection. " Bet it's the kits. " he murmured, amusement tugging at his voice. A faint smirk curved his muzzle. " They've been itching to move around, finally free from the nursery's walls. " His chuckle was soft but genuine, affection for the little ones glinting in his gaze.

But the moment faded as Juniperstar's voice rose over the clearing, announcing the first name. Thistlekit would be Thistlepaw and... Then his name. Copperstorm blinked, caught momentarily off-guard before instinct moved his paws forward. He met Thistlepaw's gaze with warmth, letting a soft, steady purr rise from his chest. " Don't worry, kit. You're going to do great. " he murmured, lowering his head slightly to offer quiet reassurance, followed by a playful wink.

A beat passed before his gaze flicked across the crowd, briefly locking eyes with Serpentberry. Just a second, but it was enough. The air between them had long since turned tense, yet Copperstorm reminded himself: he would not fault a child for the actions of their mother. Not now. Not here. Still, his expression shifted again when Juniperstar continued down the list. Heartpaw, Hopepaw, and Rattlepaw, each paired with capable warriors.

Then...

Leafpaw.

His eyes narrowed slightly, tail twitching as he glanced toward Stilldream. Confusion pulled at his features. Of all cats... Why her? His lip curled faintly, instinctively, before he caught himself and turned his attention back to Juniperstar. Was this a strategic decision? A test? Or simply a blind spot? Whatever the reason, the choice was bound to stir friction. He didn't envy Serpentberry when the dust from this decision began to settle. Letting the moment pass for now, Copperstorm shifted back to his new apprentice. He offered Thistlepaw a nod, voice steady and grounding.

" We'll explore the territory once the meeting's done, alright? "

The storm of politics and tension could wait. For now, this was about the kits. The future warriors of ThunderClan.

Of course he knew about the incident, though he hadn't really been there and didn't exactly grasp exactly what the issue was. His mother had been spitting and hissing fury for days following, he didn't dare ask questions or prod for more information so Stilldream's taking of the herbs and Juniperstar dying and rising were just fleeting bits of knowledge he had nestled in his mostly empty head. Of course Juniperstar came back, she had nine lives-obviously that made sense. Stilldream knew about plants sort of like Serpentberry, so of course she helped but wasn't as good at it as his mother. There was more nuance to it, more things that he simply couldn't be bothered to consider, all that mattered to Leafkit was being an apprentice and if he had been assigned to Sablestar himself he wouldn't have even argued that point! He just wanted a mentor, he just wanted to start training, it was all he had been thinking about for moons since he and his siblings apprentice ceremony crept ever closer. No amount of his mentor failing in the popularity contest was going to dampen his excitement and he waddled forward to the ghostly white molly to touch noses back with perhaps a bit too much force, nearly ramming his entire snout into her face, "I'm SO EXCITED, I can't wait! What are we gonna do first? Are we gonna go fight a fox? Are we gonna go catch an eagle? Are we gonna race monsters on the Thunderpath?" The Thunderpath! He only knew about it but it was really scary from what was whispered from the apprentice den and it was a challenge he was more than happy to face.
