AFTERLIFE LAWS OF CONDUCT

You would think when you die you are free to do as you please, but even spirits must conform to the laws governed by their spaces. The afterlife exists on its own plane, divided into three segments (as far as the cats of the clan know, there could be more yet undiscovered). Each segment represents an afterlife familiar to them: StarClan, Purrgatory, The Dark Forest. For more information on these afterlife's individually please read A Guide to the Afterlife.

StarClan in particular follow the laws most strictly, after having failed the previous iterations of the clans by being too direct and causing their fate to change to something far worse to balance their interference, they refuse to alter their course as they once have and follow the laws to the T.

The Dark Forest, while housing those who are not necessarily known for following rules, also obey the laws with much more looser terms - seeking loopholes and ways to get around directly breaking them.

True neutral to the afterlife, cats of Purrgatory simple exist and do as they are told with no real attempts to manipulate in either direction.

THE LAWS THAT GOVERN THE AFTERLIFE AS A WHOLE
These are rules that each afterlife must conform to, an almost ethereal compulsion to obey and follow these rules exists within every cat from the moment they arrive. They can be aware of these unseen chains, or they can remain blissfully ignorant to them, but they can not break them. Cats of the afterlife follow 'the law of direct interference' which states their actions may not change the fate or path of a living cat through any method.
  • The truth goes with you in death. Telling a living cat through any means something they would have no knowledge of otherwise is forbidden.
    • StarClan will carefully cultivate signs and send dreams to cats as warning but it is with discretion and care and must be up for interpretation to avoid direct interference.
  • Lingering in the realm of the living is not allowed for long periods of time, a cat may not exist there more than an hour without fading and being drawn back to the afterlife they came from.
    • Forcing ones spirit back into the realm they were cast from in death is tiring and cats may not do it frequently nor consecutively.
    • The exception to this rule is Afterlife Companions.
  • Spirits may engage with small items and manipulate them but they are discouraged from haunting to severe levels or breaking the law of direct interference.
  • When a living cat dies, a spirit is often sent to help guide them to their appropriate afterlife to avoid them getting lost.
