Ghoststrike rose with the lingering darkness of pre-dawn, stepping out from the narrow gouge in the quarry wall that served as his den. At this hour, it would probably be the coolest in temperature they'd see for the rest of the day– a benefit, surely, given he usually took this time to run.

The camp was mostly quiet around him as he paused to stretch and shake out his coat, but he knew he wasn't entirely alone, either, spotting the familiar pelts of the few other cats who preferred to leave their nests before the sun met the sky. Normally, Ghost would have been halfway up the quarry wall and well on his way to leaving camp by now, not to be seen again for the next hour or so unless a cat had the luck of glimpsing him along whatever route he'd chosen for himself that morning. But today, wasn't a normal day.

He turned, and for the first time since settling in the new camp, made his way toward the larger community dens. Thunderflash and most of the other cats slept within them, but Ghost preferred his slice of solitary heaven away from the noise and extra bodies.

"Rattlepaw," he called, low but firm– not intending to wake the entire den, but not caring if anyone was momentarily disturbed by the call for his apprentice, either. They'd live. "Up. We leave in five for our run."

He turned, not waiting to see if the boy responded. Rattlepaw would either get up or he wouldn't– but Ghost could assure the apprentice would regret their laziness if they chose to keep him waiting.

Hopefully, it wouldn't come to that. Rattlepaw had seemed enthusiastic about their training so far, and he was hoping that motivation would help in building these new habits in them. A solid routine was the first thing Ghost intended to hammer into them– starting with early morning conditioning.

Initially, he intended the outing to just be him and his apprentice, but as he neared the trail leading up and out of the quarry, Owlbarks decision to lump the apprentices and mentors together for the tour came to mind. Usually, an invitation to run with him would only find itself extended to brown fur and blue eyes, but– regretfully– he could see the benefits in training as a group.

Sometimes.

"If any others want to come," he called over his shoulder, mostly to the cats already awake in camp and listening, "You're welcome to follow. So long as you keep pace." He wouldn't be stopping to take breaks, and anyone who couldn't keep up would likely get left behind. Not that this would be a particularly gruelling excersize– there was no way Rattlepaw or the other apprentices could keep up with a proper run meant for a fully trained warrior– but they had to start somewhere and he intended to put them through their paces.

Full of mischief and curiosity! Rattle doesn't always do the right thing but always does what he thinks is right.

A firm voice awoke him from the comfortable slumber he had managed to slip into in his new nest. It had been strange not sharing a nest with his mother and littermates anymore and sleep hadn't come as easily given the change but now he was awake again... But it was still a little dark out? He lifted his head and slowly blinked up at the visage of his mentor, Ghoststrike seemingly pausing for a few moments before realization hit him-- He was an apprentice now! How could he have forgotten!? Even while still half-asleep he was quick to react to the call of his mentor, his miss-matched fur disheveled as he stumbled out of his new nest and toddled after the black smoke tabby.

Rattlepaw was still quite tired and truthfully wanted nothing more than to curl back up in his nest and fall back asleep again but... He didn't want to disappoint his mentor! Especially not this early on into his apprenticeship! With a shake of his pelt the young tom would pick up the pace and find more stride in his step now as he tried to focus, becoming more awake with each pawstep he took to follow after Ghoststrike. "We leave in five? I'm ready and raring to go now~!" He'd chirp-- He sounded a little sluggish still but his spirit to learn was most certainly there too!

He would pull up next to his mentor as Ghoststrike called over his shoulder to any other cats who maybe wanted to come along with them-- If said cats could keep pace. Rattlepaw's eyes practically glowed with admiration up at the older tom, his tail tip flicking back and forth. He was determined to try and keep up and even more determined to impress his mentor in some way! But what could even impress Ghoststrike of all cats?

Like Ghoststrike, Magnoliapeak is an early riser. Often before the rest of her clanmates, a force of habit she had picked up when she was younger and raised to be full of discipline. Though she is barely stepping out of the warriors' den when Ghoststrike goes whizzing past, a streak of orange and black in his wake. Magnoliapeak finds a twinge of jealousy at Rattlepaw's enthusiasm. Sandpiperpaw is not so excited for training and exercise. She's hardworking sure- no apprentice of hers would be held back- but there were times that it felt like pulling teeth to try and get her to do anything that hadn't been her own idea.

Still, she supposes it's a courtesy she must extend to her apprentice, even if she doubts that she'll want to join. Sandpiperpaw would also likely bitch and moan endlessly if she found out Magnoliapeak didn't at least try to ask her. She pokes her head into the apprentice den to offer her apprentice a cursory: "I'm going for a run with Ghoststrike and Rattlepaw. If you join us I won't make you do three sessions today," but barely gives Sandpiperpaw even a moment to reply before she's moving to match stride with the aforementioned pair. Distantly she wonders if she should have made a jab about standing over her fellow apprentices.

As she joins the pair, she offers no more than a brief wave of her tail in greeting. "I'll join you both," Magnoliapeak volunteers herself without much enthusiasm "There's no telling whether or not my apprentice will join."
