Finally, the ground surrounding the barn is no longer covered in a thick sheet of snow! The sun's rays feels warm against his dark fur, as he peaks his head out of barn. As the sun beams down on the farmland, Soot retreats back into the secluded barn— racing over to the nests his older siblings set up. His eyes flash excitedly as his gaze falls upon his littermate, and the tom skids to a stop.
"Hey Cinder!"
Soot greets her with a grin, his tail high in the air.
"The snow is gone!"
You better know what that means!

"Race me!"
Soot declares with a grin, leaving little to no room to say no. His paws itch for a good sprint across the farmlands, and who else would he challenge to such a race? Before his sister can give him an answer, his eyes light up. One of their older siblings make their way over, with a fresh mouse in their jaws. He watches them as they drop it on the ground, and before they can take a bite, Soot snatches it. He drops it at Cinder's paws; ignoring whatever curses that might fly out.
"If you beat me, you can have this mouse as a snack!"
He smirks, there's no way she can say no now!

"Well? Will you race me or not?"

In all honesty he did miss when the barn was covered in white. It was the only time their land felt pure. Never mind that the white blanket nipped at his paws, it seemed a little price to pay for such a beautiful sight. He had left before sunrise to bring something for his younger siblings. Out of obligation. After all, their parents had died long ago. Their parents had died for his younger siblings, which meant the only ones left to parent their younger siblings were Grackle and him. Whatever excitement he had for being an older brother burned away along with the flames that had engulfed their parents. Cinder and Soot had been named after such loss. It had crossed his mind here and there how cruel the names were, but whenever he looked too hard at either... He could only ever be reminded of what was lost.

Had their parents still lived he wouldn't have returned with a fresh mouse. Before he can even utter a word, his younger brother snatches the mouse he had caught for the pair. While his expression gives nothing away, irritation settles in his gut. A thank you would have been nice. White eyes glance over to Cinder, ignoring the curses that fly out of their mouth. Mother would have scolded you two long ago. I am not mother though. I should eat this mouse myself as a lesson to both of you, but I don't want to hear it from Grackle. And so, the black tom could only watch as his younger siblings compete with one another.

It is in these moments he remembers a time when he and Grackle once had the luxury of fooling around. Admittedly, he wanted nothing to do with his younger siblings. Just looking at them pained him, and when they curled up against him? While did not shove them away and wrapped his tail around them... The feeling of disgust plagued him. Nowadays he was better. There was no disgust when his younger siblings wanted to hug him or brush their pelts together. Though, it was still very much difficult to say that he loved them. Did he actually? Or was it because their parents would have wanted this? Raven shakes his head.
"You two better decide quickly. Grackle might end up eating this mouse if you take too long."
Where is Grackle? Did they go off somewhere? Hopefully they don't take too long. I would like to do my own things too.

(☀︎) curled in the barn, cinder allows the sun that beams through the rickety wood to warm her patched pelt. slumber lingers about her form, soft snores exhaling from her slender frame. she finds herself having perfectly lovely day, belly full with a foolish mouse who had dared to enter the feline infested barn. her brother's shout shocks her awake, and dual-hued eyes flash with annoyance. soot is an enthusiastic tom, with a heart for adventure and play. cinder likes this about him, but not when she's napping. "right now?" she whines, clambering to her paws and arching her back in a stretch. amber and sapphire catch on the shadowy form of her older brother as he ambles over. "hiya raven," cinder will mumble, kneading small paws into her cozy nest. soot notes the older tom too and he spins around, snatching the mouse from raven's paws. "you're obviously gonna win," she tells her brother, stepping delicately out of her nest to size up the mouse and soot's frame.

the two look almost comical together - soot's long legs and twitchy tail next to cinder's shorter frame, her small, slender paws. "why don't you catch a mouse first, then we can talk races," eyebrows quirking in an amused challenge, cinder nudges raven's mouse back to him. she watches her brother's fern hued eyes, seeing the outrage spark. "or offer me somethin' better. i already ate today."

Reactions: SOOTPAW

Goldy doesn't see himself in Raven.

Where Raven looks like he would rather disappear in this morning's commotion, which Goldy knew was coming with the rays of sunlight that melted the snow and warmed the ground, Goldy would have encouraged his brother to go and play with his friends. Even now, from where he lazily hung off one of the exposed beams and peered down at the family, a tiny smile was on his face as the younger's antics. Even as Cinder lazily stretches, as Soot dares for competition, Goldy finds himself in quiet reminiscence about his younger days.

The older cat drops down from above, languidly stretching after he rises out of the braced pose he was in. A yawn splits his jaws, slowly padding over with a tail twitching behind him. "Maybe you two should compete 'n mice." Goldy suggests, head tilting towards the both of them. "The faster t' catch the most prey wins. By... sunhigh, maybe?" Goldy's head tilts towards the cracked barn doors. It was still a hint chilly out, but the breaking rays would start to warm them all soon enough.

"A test of many skills." He teases, his tail twitching in mirth. Goldy doesn't mind if the pair of siblings deny him, after-all. They were young, wet behind the ears, green, and with the latter two of those things, the former deserved to last into their formative moons as much as possible. Eyes shifted towards Raven briefly, then away, an unexplainable expression on his face.

Well I'm still here...
They can't tell me who to be... Cuz I'm not what they see—

COMET(TAIL), He/Him / 6 moons / Barn Cat (Future Windclan Apprentice)
Short fur black self tom with low white and fluffy tail + ginger somatic mutation in tail, bright yellow eyes
Son of ASTRO and NEBULA, Sibling to TWINKLE(TUFT), & ECLIPSE(SHADE)
Doesn't typically sit still, Quick on his paws and with his wits, Mischievous and a bit of a prankster but not unkind
Tagging [@]

Comet was already having a grand old time just outside of the barn hopping around and deliberately avoiding the small patches of yet-melted snow as well as the puddles of water. Being a speedy cat was all well and good, but it wasn't enough to just be quick in a straight line after all. Mobility was the name of the game here, and Comet loved practicing that just as much as full on running around.

Eventually however, doing this by himself was getting kind of boring. Comet also quite liked racing with Eclipse for one thing, he was the more keen out of Comet's littermates back when they lived together with their parents— but in this situation he couldn't just always bother Eclipse for this purpose even though he honestly kind of wanted to. There were heaps and heaps of other cats here that would be fun to race, cats around Comet's age, and even some of the older cats, it didn't even bother Comet that older cats would have a stride length advantage at all!

Whatever the case, Comet eventually walked back inside, overhearing the mention of a race, how convenient! Making his way over, Comet confidently looked over to Soot, unaware of any potential attitude the fellow youth may have. "Hi, I could race you if you want? I'm quite speedy, the name's Comet!" An older cat also padded over, and they suggested quite the interesting contest. "That sounds like fun!" Comet smiled, looking up to the older cat. "Can I join in? Oo, I can practice what I saw Merry, Buck and Holly do! Yippee!"

Yeah the world is still sleepin' when I keep on dreamin' for me,
And their words are just whispers and lies that I'll never believe!
