The Thunderpath stuck out like a black scar against the ground—surface scaly and damp with mist, gleaming faintly beneath the moon. She stood at its edge, paws brushing the crumbling gravel and listened. The dark was silent, no monsters—only the incessant hum of company seeking frogs and wind in the leaves.

She moved quickly, pale coat catching in the light as she broke from the shadows. The moment she touched leaf-littered soil the air thickened. What greeted her on the other side was unwelcoming thickets and mushy ground. Though she recognized a well-treaded path away from the roadside.

Her pace slowed as she pressed into the thicket, its sharp edges tugging at her pristine fur. The air smelled of peat and stagnancy, sharp contrast to the lighter sweetness of the forest. While she carefully tread the beaten path her ears remained pricked. The land was already occupied by a clan that ThunderClan was on… complicated terms with, to say the least.

Well... What was the harm in a little stroll? She was just an air-headed little novice warrior after all, and boundaries were just so very hard to discern.

Her eyes swept the underbrush for night-blooming flora. Eventually, she crouched at the base of a half-rotted tree, brushing her paw along a patch of orangish-yellow ruffled mushrooms growing against its bark. A pleasant smile curved across her delicate muzzle. "Hello there my handsome little treasures~" She hummed and began to gently pry some of it away from the bark.

Stoatpaw found herself in her natural tempo of the night now. She'd really started to learn to carry her paws, having trained in the day to pounce and crawl and simply walk without causing a ruckus. Sablestar's training could be tedious on the worst days, but it helped! Though of course, she wasn't satisfied with just some improvement, she wanted to push herself further.

Which lead her out to the territory, she had mentioned in passing wanting to try some hunting that night, she had learned just as well that when cats knew where she was, they weren't going to tail her like she was bound to get attacked the moment she stepped out of camp. And it wasn't as if she was an incapable little kitten anymore, either. She held her head high, breathing in the night air, eyes darting up through the sparse trees and watching for any rustling reeds. The night was high, and the moonlight allowed her to meld into the light. It was an interesting leg up over the other cats, and it wasn't as if there were tonnes of white cats who could slink under the gise of night too. She only ever knew one other white cat, if only in a vague memory, sometimes she wondered if he was okay...

Though she was snatched from her thoughts, something glittering in the moonlight caught her eye. Head bowed towards one of old rotted trees was... Stoatpaw's fur bristled. A cat, someone trespassing on their territory. As she steadied her breath, the scent of Thunderclan clung to the slightest wind that brushed its way towards her. 'Ohh no....' But as she watched the cat, with the advantage of the home territory scent masking her for now, it clicked in her mind. She had run through the initial anxiety of a strange cat in the territory, Stoatpaw didn't realise they too had a pelt made of moonlight.

She knew it wasn't the cat she knew; his fur was long and soft, and his eyes were kind. This cat, well, she didn't know. For a moment, she wanted to run and find someone to alert to the stranger, but if she did, she might lead them to camp, and who knows what that could bring... Instead, she steadied herself. 'Do as Sablestar would.'

Instead of hiding, Stoatpaw walked into the light of the moon and cleared her throat. "Excuse you. This happens to be Shadowclan territory you're rifling around in." For being a little outmatched, Stoatpaw spoke cooly, as if she did have a handle on the situation. In a way, she knew she had something over this trespasser. She was still reasonably smaller than the stranger, but even so stood unfazed, planting paws that were far more adept to the pocosin than whoever this was. Stoatpaw would always try reason above all else, of course, but Sablestar hadn't been training a coward either.

AND I AM SORRY MY CONSCIENCE CALLED IN SICK AGAIN

Wolfpack hadn't been expecting to come across Stoatpaws scent out in the territory– not alone, anyways. Maybe with Sablestar, or even Fleapaw in tow. When his paws began to pick up after her trail, it wasn't because he didn't reust her. She was a good enough apprentice– smarter than most, and she took her training seriously. But she was also young, and bad things had a habit of happening to young cats when they wandered too far from the safety of their peers.

Onto a thunderpath.

Or into the waiting paws of a stranger hunched over a patch of fungus.

He kept to the reeds as he approached, paws quiet against the wet ground, body low. The scent of Thunderclan his him like a slap in the face. His ears twitched at Stoatpaws voice cutting through the silence, calm but firm as she confronted the tresspasser. Not bad. She didn't sound scared– but she shouldn't be doing this alone.

He dropped any pretense of stealth as he emerged from the underbrush, having no need to hide now that he'd made the decision to be seen. Broad shoulders rolled with each languid step as he made his way over to stand beside the apprentice, eyes of blue and gold locked on the figure crouched by the trees.

"Lost, stupid, or brave– which one are you?" he asked, tail giving a subtle twitch– the way it did when it saw a bird, or mouse, or anything else worth jumping on and sinking his teeth into. "If it's the first two,I'll walk you back across myself right now. If it's the third– well, I'd be happy to show you what your boldness gets you."

His claws slipped free, sinking into soft, dark earth.

The rubbery mushroom peeled away from the bark with some coaxing, its damp threads stretching like torn tendons before snapping loose. Moisture dampened her paw pads and Stilldream examined the chunk she'd freed with a satisfied hum. Her ears twitched at the faint squelch of its flesh—a gorgeous specimen.

Stilldream was lost in admiration when a voice jostled her. She froze, annoyance flaring beneath her ribs. But she had the sense to adjust that before turning around, a gentle confusion smoothing across her features. Oh?

A tiny thing blinked back at her—white-furred, wide-eyed. Lovely, really. Not at all what she'd expected to find skulking in a swamp. When Stilldream pictured the cats of ShadowClan, she imagined grotesqueries. Bald and ugly, slick with muck, perhaps even sporting an extra eye or limb. Disappointing, really that they could look so… ordinary. "S-ShadowClan?" She squeaked with a frazzled look around. "Oh dear… was that this way?"

Young ones were pliable things—easy to mislead. The naive thing that faced her was hardly a threat either. Stilldream figured she could talk the girl into leaving her be, but the arrival of a larger cat dashed those plans.

How tiresome to be discovered so quickly. She turned slowly to greet the newcomer, posture shrinking back ever so slightly. "Goodness, you need not threaten me." She said with a tender tilt of her head. "Anyone could see how strong you are. I wouldn't stand a chance." That was the truth. He had a presence about him that reminded her much of Hawker. Drawing claws now would not be in her favor. "My brother and I recently ended up in ThunderClan I-I suppose I'm not used to all these borders yet. Please forgive me for encroaching onto your land." Stilldream smiled coyly and dipped her head. "An escort back would be lovely.... but ah..." The white molly delicately gestured to the half-peeled fungus.

Seemed an awful shame to come all that way without anything to show for it. "Would it be too much to ask to take a bit of this with me?"

All things of nature were considered for medicinal use, even mushrooms. Many trials took place to discover that knowledge in her colony, not all of them pleasant. But death in the pursuit of medicinal knowledge was a worthy sacrifice, an honorable one even for someone who committed crimes against the colony... Perhaps even merciful considering what sorts of things Uncle put her brother up to.

I'LL SHOW NO MERCY, I'LL SHOW NO REMORSE.

Coalstrike lingered in the shadows, his golden eyes nearly orange in the low light, had locked onto the trespasser speaking to Stoatpaw. He remained perfectly still, his dark fur blending seamlessly into the undergrowth, a silent observer as tension curled in his chest like smoke. The stranger's voice irked him... Soft, dreamy, too calm for someone caught where they didn't belong. The kind of tone used to mask something sharper beneath.

His gaze flicked toward Wolfpack, who had slipped into the scene as well, and only then did Coalstrike finally step forward. He emerged from the darkness like a storm breaking over the trees, tail lashing, his expression cold and unyielding. The thick fur around his neck bristled like a lion's mane as he fixed the trespasser with a piercing glare. " We shouldn't threaten you? " he echoed, his voice low and edged with disdain. " You're the one trespassing on our territory. "

He paused deliberately, taking a single step forward. " If you're truly lost, we'll escort you back the way you came, with a warning. But if you know where you are, and you chose to come anyway… " His tone darkened. " Then I suggest you turn around. Now. " His gaze dropped to the fungus she had gathered, and his eyes narrowed with fury. The audacity. " If your medicine cat needs herbs, they can speak to our medicine cat. Warriors don't get to decide what's shared between Clans. We need our own herbs and until otherwise agreed, nothing here belongs to you. "

His tail snapped once behind him, his stance a wall of bristling authority.

" Leave it. And go. "

The scent of ThunderClan so far in the pocosin brought disappointed surprise to the leader. There had been a good length of time now where the two Clans were able to keep their paws to themselves, the demands from both leaders respected well enough for him to have not heard any issue thereafter. The sight of a young warrior could allow some bit of grace, from what little details he could catch it seemed like this one was not part of ThunderClan until recently. He didn't recognize her at all from the Colony, either, leading him to believe in her spinning tale a little more.

"They're just some morels, Coalstrike. Cicadabuzz has no use for them." It's not entirely a lie- Sablestar spent enough time in the den to know their stocks held nothing to the like of mushrooms. Whether or not Cicadabuzz knew of any cocktail remedy for them was another thing. "We should show mercy in moments we would like it returned, we were just the same in WindClan not very long ago." Borders disregarded in disbelief anything had come to claim the lands. No matter, Stilldream must have heard plenty of his Clan for the reaction followed by Stoatpaw and Wolfpack's entrance. "Take only what your jaws can carry, and we will see that you get to the other side of the Thunderpath safely. I do suggest against making this a habit, though. ShadowClan does not often find second chances useful."

Sablestar twitched his tail in dismissal, gesturing for Stoatpaw to return to his side.

The patrol gawked at her, their hostility was sharp enough to cut. The shadow that emerged spoke in a voice that resembled the grating of bone and metal, but she met his fury with a calm mind—water pressing against hot stones. Outwardly, she was a nervous thing, frail and uncertain.

She took a fearful step back, a little bird trying to escape a hungry predator. "That is true b-but..." The ghost stammered, silk dragged across ash. "I was careless, but I did not do so purposefully."

Her eyes lifted, pale and frightened. "I really don't know the way back. She sighed, brows furrowing delicately. The truth was buried somewhere in there, their territory was foreign to her, not that it mattered. Truth was only as useful as what others believed.

Stilldream glanced down at the fungus, still half-clinging to the bark. Her ear flicked back, just slightly. Deep within a root of irritation vined against her rib cage. The frustration of losing a well-fought prize. No… more like the frustration of an animal trying to be something it wasn't. She was not a warrior. She trained as a mender, and now her efforts were spurred, useless, wasted on pretending to be something she was not.

There shouldn't be any 'borders', nor any concept of theft. She used to be able to go where she pleased and if Stilldream ever desired a specific plant, all she had to do was ask.

"Serpentberry would have no use for them." That much was true. Stilldream doubts even these fools know the bounty that grows beneath their noses. He is not a medicine-cat, she can tell from scent alone, yet he is stubborn and unwilling to give up even when that is wasted.

That is confirmed as the tuxedo among them speaks. She is relieved when he subdues the hound in her face. The confidence he wields over them is enough to give her an idea of who the tom might be, but that information is not new. Two star-crossed lovers, separated by blood and betrayal, each giving their all to bridge the gap between their clans. Oh, the tragedy…

She would've been lucky to escape with her pelt unmarked, but luckier still was his generous offer. "Your generosity will not be spurned, t-thank you. I was careless today, it will not happen again..." Stilldream glances nervously at the dark tom, and before any minds could be changed, she hurriedly turned back to rotting wood.

Stilldream contained the swell of joy in her chest. She tucked a few smaller pieces under her tongue and then crammed a hunk of potently earthly mushroom between her jaws. When all was done, she turned back to the patrol. Seemed much to their displeasure, they would be escorting her after all.

For a brief moment, Coalstrike truly believed this lying, thieving molly would slink off without a single scrap of ShadowClan's prey, without so much as a stolen mushroom. But then Sablestar arrived. The leader's words cut through the tension, calm and decisive. Mere morsels. Cicadabuzz didn't need them. Let her have them. Coalstrike didn't argue. But the flame behind his amber eyes flared. He said nothing at first, only flicked the tip of his tail once in sharp irritation. His burning gaze met the white she-cat's for a heartbeat, quietly furious, though his expression stayed blank.

" Very well, Sablestar. " he said at last, voice flat but even. He watched as the outsider shoved the mushrooms into her mouth, eyes narrowing.

Let her choke on them.
