I COULD NEVER WALK AWAY

There was no denying the spring was well on it's way in Thunderclans territory. The skies were clearer, the sun a little warmer, and even the trees themselves were slowly showing signs of budding with fresh leaves. Most importantly though, was the fact that this newfound warmth meant that the snow was finally melting away. In it's wake were showers of rain that left the territory wet and covered in puddles and mud– which was a pretty accurate reflection of Thunderclans camp that morning.

"Wanna see who can jump the farthest?" he asked, eyes bright with a challenge as he turned to his fellow apprentices.

On the edge of camp, a massive puddle had formed along the quarry wall- one that even the adults would likely struggle to jump. Most of the cats in camp were steering clear of it, but Sunpaw wasn't afraid of a little water or mud. They'd all be wet by the time they were done patrolling today anyway, so why not have a little fun in the meantime?

Something about puddles gave him mixed opinions. Splashing could be fun and was much, much safer than splashing in the river. The other thing was the mud. The tortie wasn't sure how much he felt about keeping his fur nice and clean. Of course, it would get dirty, but what if he looked like an absolute mess? Cinderpaw stares at his reflection in a small puddle, squinting at the white in his fur. That would be a pain to clean... But who cares? He was young, he could do whatever he wanted!

His attention moves from the small puddle to familiar ginger tabby. Cinderpaw grins, trotting over to Sunpaw. "I'm down, but be prepared to lose!" The tortie says with a slightly cocky tone. "Are we allowed to have running starts or is it just from the edge?" He asks, looking at the larger puddle. It was possible he could clear it, but highly unlikely. He could believe, though. In his head, he was already trying to figure out how far he could get, hoping there wasn't much mud getting splashed on his pelt.

Grizzlypaw hustled forward on unsteady paws, nearly missing tripping over himself. "WAIT!!" He shouted, breathless, despite having not traveled more than a few tail-lengths. He stopped beside Cinderpaw at the start of the rain-felled puddle, leaning forward to look at Sunpaw, too.

"We wanna bet anything? I gotta cool hawk's talon I'd be willing to throw in." His teeth flashed in a youthful grin, confidence beaming from his face.

I COULD NEVER WALK AWAY

There wasn't much in life that Sunpaw liked more than having fun with his friends. It was one of those things that– thanks to clan life– was something he could do pretty much anywhere. Even something simple like being sent to fetch moss for fresh nests in the nursery was a made a thousand times more palatable by the presence of another cat, especially one his age that he got along with. And that was most cats, thankfully. He had his parents to thank for that, no doubt, may the rest in Starclan. They'd always told him to be brave and kind and fair.

Had always loved his playful, adventurous spirit.

"Great idea, Grizzlypaw! I've a cool piece of deer shed I found out in the forest I'll add to the pile. What do you say, Cinderpaw- you in?" he asked, glancing toward the tortie with an excited swish of his tail.

Dreampaw . trans tom (he/him) . 9 moons . apprentice of ThunderClan . mentored by tba . short and small hazel-eyed tortie with mohawk-like head tuft TAGS! ₊˚✧ ゚. Dreampaw had noticed the gathering of his fellow apprentices grow from a short distance, observing them with sharp eyes and a creeping smirk. It wasn't long before his interest got the better of him. There was no way he'd miss out on a contest where victory was assured for the Dark Warrior, as it always was. He shook out his sleek pelt and swaggering forward. And as much as he wanted it to be cool confidence rolling off him in waves, his aura was more akin to that of hopeful excitement as he rushed to join in.

"Such bravery," Dreampaw called as he slid neatly into place at Grizzlypaw's side, eyeing each apprentice in turn with intense acknowledgement. "A hawk's talon, Grizzlypaw? A deer shed, Sunpaw? Cinderpaw, you're bound to have something good, too. Very bold bets for a bunch of cats destined to lose." The dark tortoiseshell chuckled as his tone balanced intimidation and playful fire.

"If we're wagering treasures of such splendor, allow the Dark Warrior himself to graciously raise the stakes." His grin broadened into something more mischievous and wickedly challenging, "I'll wager my finest snake fang—ripped straight from the jaws of the abyss itself. It's a fearsome prize... and I'm going to relish taking all of yours!"

His eyes wondered to look upon the puddle that was the object of their game. It was a puddle of colossal size that sat stagnant along one of the quarry's stone walls. That was the obstacle Sunpaw had proposed they overcome. Dreampaw was still in his slow process of waking up this morning but the Dark Warrior could never cower in the face of a challenge especially one made in an air of fun. Realistically, he had his doubts any cat could actually jump across and come out with dry paws but in the reality he lived in, anything was possible.

He flicked his flame-colored tail like a matador waving a cape to a charging bull and backed up a few steps to to widen his stance dramatically, "So, who among you unfortunate souls dares to go first? Who among us can leap beyond this treacherous lake of doom and emerge with dignity intact?" Honestly he could not have a more exciting lineup of rivals. Sunpaw, Cinderpaw, and Grizzlypaw? This jumping contest was going to be one for Thunderclan legend.
