{$title} Prompt 115 (Claim your spot on sunningrocks for the day) and Prompt 122 (Dip your toes in the river shallows)
————————————— The melody sings what the words can't say. ✦

The ache of Boarpaw's body had grown frankly unreasonable at that point; he had hoped growing to meet the eyes of his mentor would be the point where he stopped getting taller. But when he realised he had outgrown her? It made his fears feel more grounded. He was already awkwardly shaped, enormous paws and a jaw jutting out awkwardly, but a body that seemed to be larger than that not just of his siblings, peers and even his mentor; it was exhausting.

He had already felt guilty at the idea of wasting herbs. Rowanpaw and Serpentberry were busy enough, and he heard their stress wanting to find enough to last the clan through leafbare. So it was why his aching paws led him out to Sunningrocks, with some of his peers in tow.

Honestly, he wouldn't have minded going alone, but having mentioned in passing he wanted to see if the Sunningrocks were all they seemed to be chaulked up to be, Flickerpaw and Webpaw seemed intrigued in coming along. And, well, the company didn't seem all too bad.

By the time the three reached the border, the sun was high in the sky, and the huge rocks seemed more and more appealing. "I'm justht here to do nothing, but Gingerflame sthaid that there'sth sthnakes, stho keep an eye out, okay?" He didn't want clanmates injured for an idea of his that may not even work, but the dull ache becoming shooting pain in his joints made him desperate to find something to soothe the ache in his bones before he had to turn to eating random plants.

Trotting ahead of his friends, he hopped atop the Sunningrocks, the enormous tom basically melting atop the warmed rocks. Boarpaw let out a satisfied sigh. While it wouldn't be a permanent fix, the sensation of the warmth of the stones under his pelt was enough for some momentary relief.

The oversized apprentice waved the others over, a smile knit across his face. "The water lookths clear today, we could go sthwimming too!" He purred, warmly, for a moment, everything feeling a little less heavy on the back of the apprentice.

Webpaw wasn't like, friends with Boarpaw, but he did have a good idea to go hang out at Sunningrocks. After all, the apprentices of ThunderClan had all been feeling the itch of adventure lately, and Webpaw was right there with them. Plus, Flickerpaw had chosen to come along as well, and Webpaw was itching to see how the other apprentice stacked up against her. Even in something simple as messing about on Sunningrocks.

She followed to the Clan's favorite sunning spot, scoffing as Boarpaw let himself flop on top of the sun-kissed stone.

"Snakes? C'mon, Boarpaw, RiverClan wouldn't be after Sunningrocks all the time if it was infested with snakes! I think Gingerflame's just tryna scare you." She looked to Flickerpaw for some backup.

Asterpaw had mixed feelings about Sunningrocks and the river that was near it though he saw that the trio of apprentices had decided to head out towards the sunwarmed stones... it makes him wonder if he would catch a glimpse of Lavenderpaw's gray pelt. So, he trails after the rest of them rather quietly as he minds his own business only for his eyes to flicker in the direction of Boarpaw as the large tomcat scales Sunningrocks to lay upon them and the chocolate tabby's ear flicks to the side with a small frown etched on his facial features. His fur prickling up at the mention of snakes, he didn't want to think about bitten by a serpent or let alone a venomous one either.

Boarpaw mentions that the water looks clear today and that it'd be perfect for swimming yet the younger apprentice can't help but disagree within his mind, his dark gaze turning in the direction of the river, and he remembers nearly drowning. How the water had threatened to enter his already sickly lungs, Asterpaw shivers at the memory itself, and he decides to speak up at last when hearing Flickerpaw's statement that Gingerflame was only saying that there was snakes to scare them "Well, w-warriors normally tell us things to warn us for our own safety..." At least, that's what he believed anyways whenever his ears perked up at the sound of a warrior's voice and he peers up at Sunningrocks at the pair that rest atop of them.

The half-clan prince decides that he'd scale the sunwarmed stones himself and he admittedly struggles a bit before he reaches the top where Boarpaw and Flickerpaw rest, he almost feels breathless as he settles onto his haunches, and a soft wheeze escapes from his jaws. "D-do you know h-how to swim?" Asterpaw dares to ask Boarpaw seeing as he was the one to mention it and a part of him is curious... they were born within the forest so surely they wouldn't be as skilled as a Riverclanner but he could be wrong.

a runty, longhaired chocolate tabby with clay toned eyes and low white. a sickly apprentice with small patches of fevercoat left over in his pelt, kitten fuzz, and fat that clings to him but is fading away to give way to a taller/more lanky build
sickly child of juniperstar and sablestar; littermate of dreampaw and magpiepaw; padding after lavenderpaw

asterpaw's an introverted apprentice that keeps to himself for the most part unless family's involved, he usually keeps his head low and eyes averted so he doesn't make direct eye contact. once, he actually gets to know someone is he more open towards them and can prove to be a devoted friend. once he's comfortable around other individuals, he tends to speak a lot more and sometimes over shares about himself without realizing it. he hates that he was born sickly but despite it, he tries to overcome it and pushes himself harder than any of the apprentices

The territory seemed so boring today. Only a few things had been caught by him, mostly a small bird and a decently sized squirrel. It was enough to feed a couple of the elders, and after the food was dropped off, Cinderpaw caught a glimpse of his fellow apprentices leaving. Curiosity struck, so he decided to follow them. Besides, it was time to relax, to do some goofing around - surely thats what these cats were up to, right? Sounds of rushing water echoed across the forest as they approached the border, Sunningrocks appearing in their vision soon enough. Cinderpaw's attention turned to his friends, shrugging as they spoke of snakes. "They might be protecting us," words come after Asterpaw's, fully in agreement of the younger's statement. "But I can take care of a few snakes myself. And I'll get a good look at them from up there!"

His tail points towards the rocks as he made the declaration. The rocks were big and tall, perfect for observing whatever could be below them. With all the energy he had left, Cinderpaw leaps up the rocks and decides to lay on the edge. Paws dangle over the side of them as he watches down below for anything. Cinderpaw doesn't pay attention to words for a few moments, the warmth of the rock seeping into his fur and skin, through to his muscles. Did they really ache this much from today? He hadn't noticed. Didn't have the time to. It was then that the other words came to him. "Huh? Pfft- swim? You guys can have fun with that." The tortie closes his eyes, flopping onto his side. "Just don't drown if you do."

Flickerpaw isn't certain what compels her to join in on such endeavors... but here she is, beside Boarpaw, Webpaw, and whoever else had decided to follow them in the end, and is about to relax. Truly, Flickerpaw cannot bring herself to do that—rest is only at the end of the day, when her paws are sore from work, and is thus wholly deserved. The sun is still strongly peeking through gaps of foliage. There is much to be done.

...but stars, she is a cat. The idea of pressing her body to sun-kissed stones and letting the rays sink into her pelt is impossible to decline.

Plus, she can always say she is checking out the border. Make sure RiverClan doesn't get any funny ideas and keeps their paws in line. It's the perfect alibi, should a grumpy warrior come and find them lazing about.

Despite Webpaw's words, Flickerpaw sees sense in Boarpaw's warning. Snakes are simple creatures; the cracks between stones is a perfect place for them to hide or even foster their young. Danger has never stopped a Clan cat from trying to claim ownership over somebody else's strip of land. It is entirely typical.

"Might as well hop on over to the other side and join the otters,"
Flickerpaw comments, voice more neutral than unkind. She cannot fathom why anybody would want to get their fur wet. Sure, with greenleaf still warming the forest, it would not take terribly long to dry off... but there is a reason she had not been born into RiverClan. They can keep the rivers to themselves. With hesitant pawsteps, Flickerpaw finally picks out a stone for herself and plops down, securing her spot.

DINGO

Rattlepaw had decided to follow along after a bunch of the other ThunderClan apprentices when they decided to head to the sunning rocks, enough of them were going that he was sure there was no real danger to be worried of but despite this the topic of snakes being at the rocks came up. His tail end twitched like his name-sake as he eagerly listened along to the banter of his fellow apprentices, raising a brow to Webpaw as she mentioned something about RiverClan he hadn't really thought of or noticed before.

"RiverClan are after Sunningrocks?" He questioned as they reached the area alongside the river. The rocks sure did look temptingly warm today and seeing the other apprentices relax on the warm stones only tripled that tempting feeling, but he figured that they'd feel even better after trudging through the cool water of the river a little bit first! So, one careful paw at a time he'd step boldly into the shallower parts of the water, feeling the river cool off his pads after a long day. Looking up and across the river as Flickerpaw made her comment about 'joining the otters' he'd flick an ear as he wondered exactly how far into the river they could go before it was crossing into RiverClan territory? Lifting up a paw and shaking it of the water before setting it back down into the river's shallows again his whiskers would twitch at the sensation the water provided. The way it moved the fur between his paws. "You ever think about how they manage to catch fish?"

It was for the best he didn't arrive sooner, considering he had been brought up. If he had to listen to the apprentices discuss whether or not snakes were a real danger at the Sunningrocks, oh he would've... Maybe it's best not to go into detail. ANYHOW! The dangerous of snakes at the Sunningrocks were very real. When he was an apprentice he and a friend used to frequently visit the rocks. It was their hangout spot, or that's what they said anyway. He would always get mad when other apprentices would show up and try and hang out with us. He'd end up in so many fights. The memory of a brown tom hissing as he had to drag them back to camp wormed itself into his mind. I hated it. His friend never listened to his concerns, always saying how Gingerpaw was taking things too seriously.

He recalled the time his friend caught an adder one day while they were hanging out at the Sunningrocks. The pride they bore. The way they chased him around the rocks with adder in their grasp. If only things were different. Maybe the two of them would still hang out in the Sunningrocks and chase off some apprentices for fun. Sharing scary stories about the rocks to draw them away for purely selfish reasons. However, time hadn't been kind to them. Never again would they laugh and sun bathe together at the rocks.

When he arrived, he felt a little put of place among a plethora of apprentices. Even though it hadn't been too long since he graduated, it still felt strange to walk up to the group of apprentices and try to strike a conversation. I don't even know what they even talk about. I'd rather not make a fool of myself. And so, the warrior trudged along, nodding to the apprentices as he found some secluded corner to dip his toes in. There was no way he'd venture further into the river, since he didn't know how to swim. Maybe it could be seen as stubbornness in refusing to let his pride be tarnished, but the last thing he wanted was to drown or have other Thunderclanner's risk their loves in trying to save him. It... It was for the best that he didn't go too deep. Ahhh, this hits the spot. I can see why Riverclan loves to be in the river, but it'll start getting a bit too cold in Leaf-bare I bet.

"Yeah, they've wanted it before!" Webpaw mewed to Rattlepaw, her tone haughty. "One of the warriors said so." Her muscles bunched as she readied a jump, leaping onto the warm stone.

"Plus, who wouldn't want something so comfy?" she said, stretching out all four limbs so they hung over the edge of a rock. Almost unconciously, she began to knead the air with her paws, claws digging into nothing but aether. "It's cozy."
