"and this time, she won't be forgiving"
for once, there is a liveliness to her step... a sort of rejuvenated soul burning brightly as the sun rises on another month. the weather would be taking a plunge soon enough... but it did little to threaten her certainty that her clan would thrive. they had a tumultuous start the leaf-bare prior but.... no more. they would rake success from the forest with their claws if they had to- that's what they wanted, wasn't it? to fight for their blessings and combat their curses no matter what shape they took?

she clambers up onto her perch, hoisting herself onto the half-fallen tree that marks the entrance to her den; a throne made of bark and loose leaf litter. "Good morning ThunderClan," the chocolate molly calls, curling her tail around her paws, a chin tilted high and proud. no more cowering from the mark of sacrifice. "A short meeting today, I assure you, we'll get right back to work. If I could borrow your ears for a moment though-" aquamarine eyes flick towards the beaming grin of a young cat, eager to be called to the front.

"Lavenderkit... you're ready to begin your training. I ask StarClan to hold you in their hearts as you carry forward these next few moons under a new name, honing new skills. From today until you've earned your warrior name, you will be known as Lavenderpaw!" she'd noticed the way the young molly had stared after departing patrols, had played with the other kits about proper hunting. she'd been growing impatient... and no longer did Juniperstar feel her so small and fragile that she risked breaking the moment she stepped paw outside of camp. "Your mentor will be Gentleflame." the leader finds the burly tom, offering a small smile of approval. "He'll keep you safe and teach you how to keep yourself safe, this I have no doubt."

now, however, was what she was certain would cause a bit of a stir. she waits, letting those who are particularly eager to celebrate cheer for their newest apprentice and as it dies down, she clears her throat. "Honeysucklecry will be stepping down from her role as a storm guard... It is nothing more than her own personal wish to be freed of the responsibility and in time, maybe that will change. For now, I thank her for her efforts." she would be a fine warrior, as she had always been, ever the diligent daughter to match her mother's spirit.

"And.... ThunderClan will be attending the Gathering again this moon." she searches for the adder-like snapping of Serpentberry's tail, the squinted glare of uncertainty from her deputy but does not let it deter her choice (this time). "I'll be bringing a modest group, leaving most of our forces here to protect camp. I will remind you all again that there is to be no bloodshed, argue and bicker if you must but do not start fights. If I'm made to ask you to leave, there will be more than your absence from the Gathering as punishment." hopefully that was well enough understood, though she detested the idea of having to threaten them into behaving properly.

I WONT SMILE, BUT I'LL SHOW YOU MY TEETH

___________________________________________________________________

His ears pricked at the sound of the leaders voice, energetic beyond what he was used to. Sh'es in a good mood, today. he noted, not quite interested enough to call himself curious, but certainly finding it unusual enough to mark down. Then again, he didn't really know Juniper. Maybe she was a cheerful sort, and had simply been burdened with too much for it to show.

Regardless of what had her spirits high, he turned and gave the shecat his attention, just as he did any other time she called for one of these. And, true to her word, it was short and sweet this time around. Lavenderkit was apprenticed to Gentleflame. Honeysucklecry stepped down from being a Stormguard. And Thunderclan would be attending the gathering– again.

Truth be told, Ghost wasn't sure if he even wanted to attend. The last one had been a complete disaster, and he still hadn't figured out his feelings toward Starclan entirely yet. Not to mention how vulnerable it left their camp to have so many warriors away at one time. Though he couldn'ty decide what was worse– leaving their most vulnerable alone at camp, or missing the inevitable shit-show that was bound to happen when the clans clashed again at fourtrees.

Which would he have a harder time forgiving himself for missing, he wondered?

❁ Falling Doesn't Feel So Bad

indentWhen Juniperstar announces his new name, Lavenderpaw quickly erupts with whoops and cheers. He's finally free! No more would he be confined to camp, watching the older cats as they came and went. Now, he was free to do as he pleases.

indentThe announcement of the gathering can't dull his excitement. He doesn't have the right context to understand why his clanmates become tense at the idea of meeting with their neighbors. He had only just arrived, last moon, and the adults around him had spared him any nasty details, to keep him from becoming too fearful. Instead, he's jumping at the opportunity. "You mean we'll get to go outside the borders? That rules!" Maybe he'll find some better playmates among the other clans.

Lavenderpaw - 6 moons - Thunderclan Apprentice

At the call of a meeting, Asterpaw approaches with a small frown on his maw and he sits at the back of the crowd not wishing to be stuck in the muddle by any of his clanmates. His mother states that it'll be a short meeting to which he's grateful for and his whiskers quiver as he watches her silently from where he sits, he doesn't bother making any small talk with anyone. Lavenderkit graduates today and it seems that his mentor would be Gentleflame, the chocolate tabby spares a glance in the mountainous tomcat's direction though he continues to be mute even at Lavenderpaw's excited outburst about being able to go beyond the borders.

Honeysucklecry steps down from her position as a stormguard and a small part of him could understand that even if he had been in her position, he would've tried continuing his duty though he doubts that he'd ever become a stormguard not when his mother oftentimes treats him like a frail autumn leaf that will crumble at the slightest touch. His interest only returns at the mention of the gathering but he feels relieved that there hopefully wouldn't be any conflict and he ponders silently if he would end up getting to go to the gathering again.

The last one was rather stressful and he had ended up going back to Shadowclan with his littermates and father... his ear flicks to the side only to give a nod to show that he's, at least, listening.

a runty, longhaired chocolate tabby with clay toned eyes and low white. a sickly apprentice with small patches of fevercoat left over in his pelt, kitten fuzz, and fat that clings to him but is fading away to give way to a taller/more lanky build
sickly child of juniperstar and sablestar; littermate of dreampaw and magpiepaw; padding after lavenderpaw

asterpaw's an introverted apprentice that keeps to himself for the most part unless family's involved, he usually keeps his head low and eyes averted so he doesn't make direct eye contact. once, he actually gets to know someone is he more open towards them and can prove to be a devoted friend. once he's comfortable around other individuals, he tends to speak a lot more and sometimes over shares about himself without realizing it. he hates that he was born sickly but despite it, he tries to overcome it and pushes himself harder than any of the apprentices

Copperstorm slipped forward in silence, weaving through his Clanmates with the familiar ease of a cat long used to moving among them. A nod was given here, a quiet glance there, before he settled beside Dewshine, close enough to feel her warmth but angled so his gaze could still track his apprentice across the clearing. His golden eyes flicked toward Juniperstar as she stepped forward, lids narrowing in thoughtful observation. There was something lighter to her this time, something he couldn't quite name, but it softened the set of his shoulders, if only for a heartbeat.

A soft hum of purr rose from him at her greeting, and he leaned briefly into Dewshine, brushing her ear with a quick rasp of his tongue before turning his attention back to their leader's words. Lavenderkit's name called first, now Lavenderpaw. Copperstorm's whiskers twitched with a faint smile. Gentleflame was a steady choice. Lavenderpaw would grow well under his paw. When Juniperstar moved on to Honeysucklecry stepping down, Copperstorm bowed his head once in quiet respect. She had served well as Storm Guard. If anyone deserved a chance to breathe, it was her.

But then came mention of the Gathering, and unease curled through his belly like smoke. His ears pricked forward despite himself, though the weight of memory made his chest heavy. The last Gathering had been nothing short of a disaster. A bloodied stage where too many truths and grudges had spilled. Would this smaller group fare better, or were they walking headlong into another storm? He drew in a deep breath, steadying himself before flicking a sideways glance at Dewshine, her presence grounding him. His whiskers twitched into the faintest of smiles before his gaze swept the camp again, catching the tension mirrored in the eyes of others.

" Who will be joining the Gathering, Juniperstar? " he finally asked, his voice even but edged with that quiet note of caution.

In little ways, when everything stays

Heartpaw wanted to believe she was brave. That she could make Mama proud. That she wouldn't embarrass Hopepaw with her shaking paws and wide, kittenish eyes. But the truth was different. The very instant she heard ThunderClan would be going to the Gathering again, her whole body jolted backward so sharply she collided with another cat. A small whimper slipped from her. Her golden eyes rounded, horrified.

No. No, they couldn't.

The last time had been.... Stars above... It had been horrible. Juniperstar. Dead. Bleeding. The chaos, the fear, the smell of blood thick in the air. Cats rushing, voices shouting, paws trampling, and her, lost and small and so terribly alone. If not for the warrior who had finally scooped her up and carried her back to ThunderClan's side… she couldn't even remember much else of that night. Only the terror. Only the ache of it. Her heart thumped like a frightened bird in her chest. They weren't really going to make her do this again… right?

" W... well... " she piped, her voice cracking in the middle. Her ears burned as she realized who she'd stumbled into. Her head jerked up, apology spilling from her lips in a rush. " I-I'm sorry! I didn't mean to bump into you! "

"and this time, she won't be forgiving"
Copperstorm asks for a bit more specificity which requires making a decision... and she realizes it is one she should've made sooner than her announcement. she hums for a few moments to buy herself some time, scanning the crowd of those gathered to consider who might be best suited to attend. it doesn't take too long, luckily, as she clears her throat to answer. "Yes, thank you Copperstorm... I would like Gentleflame to bring young Lavenderpaw with us so she can experience the other clans in one, safe space. Magnoliapeak, bring your apprentices as well if they wish to come." was it selfish to lean into the safety of her family, knowing they would always be willing and ready to drag her home when things went sour? "Houndhowl, Gingerflame, Brindlefeather... Starlightpaw and Valepaw may attend as well as their apprentices." that'll do from her regular cohort.

she faces her Storm Guard again with a smile, "You can come if you like Copperstorm, you'll just need to coordinate with the other Storm Guard on who's staying behind to watch camp. I don't want anyone to leave camp while we're gone... Owlbark..." she faces her deputy with a softening gaze... her shadow, armed and ready to bare his teeth as ever. "You will attend me as well." at her side. always.

There was a moment of quiet thought as the brown tabby regarded the leader, golden eyes thoughtful before he finally dipped his head in respectful acknowledgement. Gentleflame and Lavenderpaw… Magnoliapeak with her apprentice… Houndhowl, Gingerflame, Brindlefeather, and their own apprentices... He let the names roll through his mind, a small puff of breath escaping him. When Juniperstar mentioned that he was welcome to join as well, provided enough Storm Guards remained behind to keep camp secure, he blinked slowly.

Hazelheart and Ghoststrike were fine guards, steady, reliable, but part of him still wondered if they'd be all right without him there to keep an eye on things. Perhaps it would be good to go along, to make sure everything beyond camp walls was as it should be. " With your permission, I would like to join too. " he meowed at last, his voice even but quietly earnest. His gaze shifted toward Ghoststrike and Hazelheart, searching their faces. " If… neither of you would mind? If so, I can stay behind. " His tail flicked once, dislodging a stray leaf from his thick fur, the brown thing fluttering down to the earth at his paws.

It came as no surprise when Owlbark was told to join Juniperstar to this Gathering too. Ever faithful, always dependable. Copperstorm's eyes met the deputy's for a brief moment, a look shared between seasoned warriors... And then finally, a respectful nod wave given to the other, a sliver of a grin flickering across his muzzle before it faded once more into composure.
