Was it always such a dreary life? Echokit didn't understand it. There had to be more than... Whatever his parents were doing, right? He would always try to look up at them, to try and connect but it just didn't seem to work. It was like he didn't even exist whenever he tried. Victorykit did differently, but nothing she did worked either. Frecklekit is quiet, unassuming, probably biding his time? No matter what the three did, it never garnered a reaction like others did with their own parents. Not even his older siblings Gracepaw and Briarpaw were given the thing that Echokit saw was missing. They were given some fake version of it, some slimy thing full of conditions and requirements- and Echokit was far too young to be able to explain this.

It was weird, it felt hollow, it felt wrong.

That wide eyed sparkle, that warmth given without second guessing. Where was it? Could it be found? Echokit wanted to fix it, put things together the way that they truly should be. One night as Echokit got comfortable in the nest next to his siblings, these very thoughts swirled within his mind- there was a desperation here that was bigger than Echokit could comprehend. It was as though he had subtly overwhelmed himself with the goal in his mind. He wanted to keep his family from breaking apart... Not knowing it was already too late to do anything about it.

On this cloudy night, the stars of the yet still waking Warrior ancestors were covered- and it was Echokit's proximity to his own parents that additionally allowed a level of darkness to seep into the realm of sleep.

Echokit was no stranger to nightmares for one so young, unfortunately. His sad small form waddled forward pathetically in his dreaming mind, in undergrowth unfamiliar with shapes unknown to him, through slime and muck until he reached an area that housed a tree even more unlike the rest. Was it important? It felt that way. "Hello?" Echokit meeped curiously.

"Is someone there..?"

"Is someone there..?"

"Is someone there..?"

"Is someone there..?"

Ah, an echo. Same as usual, it seemed. "Just me, then. Always just me..." Echokit sniffled, trying his best to curl up in the friendliest looking patch of grass. "... Why?"

I thought the island was my home, the outside world a great unknown...
How little I knew...
