It was a beautiful day. Some part of her brain recognized it, surely. Some small, unimportant part of her enjoyed the chill on the breeze despite the dappling warmth of sunlight on her pelt and the colors of the leaves as they fell and danced on the breeze. She didn't know leaves changed colors. Didn't even know that was possible. But in that moment, she didn't care. All she could think about was the fact that her parents were missing - had been missing - and no one cared. Not her siblings, not the other warriors, no one. Well, except Gracepaw. But she was useless. Someone had to find her parents, and it might as well be her. Actually, it should be her.
Sneaking out of camp had been easier than she expected. The first day, when her parents had first vanished, she'd tried but tensions had been high, the warriors on high alert. They'd caught her right away. This time, however, no one was paying attention. She'd been lounging in camp while the other kits played games and the warriors were between patrols, and she saw her opportunity. She hadn't really planned on leaving camp and finding her parents right then, but it seemed like as good a time as any. So, after creeping from camp unnoticed, she found herself bounding through their territory. She'd only been out once before, with Flickerdance and some other kits and warriors. They'd have a lesson on hiding their scent, which she took advantage of. The first thing she'd done was splash through the stream, trying to mute her scent in case someone outside of camp might catch a whiff.
Though she was loathe to admit it, she didn't really know... where she was going. She tried to scent the air, but of course any scent of her parents was long gone. So, she just walked. She skirted tree trunks, leapt over stones, ducked under shrubs. She almost enjoyed the scratch of the branches on her thick pelt. There were so many new things out in the territory, sights and sounds and smells. She could hear prey scurrying around, and contemplated stopping and trying to hunt. She'd watched the apprentices practice and she'd practiced her own hunting crouches. But no, she was on a very specific hunt. She had to find her parents. What if this had been a test? What if her parents were waiting, just outside the border, hoping their kits were smart enough to find them. She smirked. She was. Her pace increased until she was practically sprinting through a territory completely unknown to her. She would find them, no matter what.
