indent The farm had no official training for young cats, but Dusty took it upon herself to make sure the kittens have good sense, and know what they're doing. And that means helping out with chores. For most of them, it's no big deal. Dusty would even describe it as 'fun'. But some rather disagreeable youngsters would disagree with her on that.
indent"This way, Brandy, and stick close. If that dog is still hanging around, we don't want to let it know we're here." It was time to check the borders of the far pasture. There's been no sign of the dog since they first chased it off, but cats don't usually come this way often, and there's no guarantee it hasn't been lingering about just out of sight. Dusty had elected to take Brandy with her - that kit is a real spitfire, and a thorn in Dusty's side. She doesn't like being told what to do, no matter how hard Dusty pushed. She hoped a more 'thrilling' task would entice Brandy to behave, but her confidence was waning.
indentWith any luck, this would be a short, easy walk without any trouble. They'd find nothing of interest, then they could go back to avoiding eachother

it's a well-known fact that brandy is a firecracker of a kit, and wherever she goes, mischief is sure to follow much to the dismay of some of the older barncats who attempt to keep her in line, like dusty. she'd managed to wrangle the little troublemaker into tagging along on after the whole dog fiasco that happened recently.
of course, she doesn't listen to the gray she-cat when told to stick close. instead, she bounds a few pawsteps ahead with a gleam in her eyes while on the search for the mutt that could pop up at any second. "i ain't 'fraid of no stinky dog!" she states with the utmost confidence. "if it shows up, i'll jus' give it a good thwack across its ugly maw and send it runnin' again!" brandy grins back over her shoulder, truly convinced that she would win.

indent Dusty does her best to keep a straight face, but she can't help but glower at the kitten walking ahead of her. "It took five grown cats to chase it off the first time. There's no way a kitten is even making a mark on it." Huffing, she quickens her pace, moving back in front of Brandy. Her ears are pricked and alert for noise, but the tip of her tail still twitches in irritation. "One of these days that big ego of yours is gonna land you in hot water, and you better hope someone is there to pull you out. You'd better learn to humble yourself a bit, be more sensible." Dusty knows her lecture won't change much, but she chides Brandy all the same. That way, at least, she can tell her 'I told you so' later.
indent Dusty shuts her jaw with a click and braces herself to ignore whatever retort Brandy is about to throw at her. She busies herself with smelling the air - sure enough, she catches a familiar scent. The dog is somewhere upwind of them, not that far away. Dusty briefly considers leaving it at that. Know that she knows the dog is still around, she can tell everyone to be alert, and steer clear of this pasture. That plan of action doesn't quite sit right with her, though. Feels too much like leaving a job half done. Instead, she'd like to at least get a pair of eyes on the dog, try to see what sort of shape it's in. It should be perfectly safe, so long as Brandy behaves herself.
indent"Brandy." Dusty turns back to face her. "The dog is nearby, upwind of us. I'd like to take a look, see how it's gettin' on. We're in no danger, just so long as it doesn't know we're there. Can I trust you with that, Brandy?" 'Probably not', Dusty thinks, 'But it's at least worth asking.
