Flowercloud could taste the blood on her tongue. Her body moved slowly, her paws hesitant, and when she broke through the leaders den... Hawkstar was dead.
She was not ready for this. Green eyes widened in shock.. but Hawkstar should wake. She had lives left.. she did, right? She had to.. right? The large molly stepped forward on shaky paws, her nose pressed into fur.
She didn't expect Hawkstar to be cold.
No.
Hawkstar should be alive. Hawkstar should've been alive, should be waking back up. Starclan wouldn't take her this soon- it's only just been four seasons. They wouldn't... They couldn't! She still had several lives! Flowerclouds paws shook, trembled as her paws wrapped over her leaders small body, thin... As if she had been dead a while....

The deputy woke up with a soft gasp, breaking through sweating and having been sobbing in her sleep. She didn't like that dream- the sun was barely over the horizon, but she insisted on quickly moving through the den. She did not step to wake anyone up. She moved with haste. Without announcing herself as she usually did... She broke through the curtain of the leaders den, moss still clinging to fur- eyes filled with sleep and grogginess. But reddened with tears, cheeks still damp. "Oh stars, oh hawkstar," she whined softly, lips quivering as she pressed forward. "I had a dream... You died. I can't take that, I- I- " she sniffled, shoving her face into the neck fur of her leader- of her king as she wept.
She hadn't wept since Duskpool and Wolfstorm and Lostmoon-... She had held it back, but the dream was a tipping point. And flowercloud had never ran so fast to find comfort in the leader.
The sound of Hawkstars beats in her chest was enough to calm her. But it didn't mean it took away her fear of the inevitable.
