Now that Mocha had learned to steal out of her twoleg's den whenever she pleased, she had to admit that it was kind of nice to be able to come and go whenever she pleased. For the first time in her life she really understood Biscuit. Today she had snuck out for very little reason at all; she did not have big plans and she was not as desperately lonely as she had been before. She had just seen a sunbeam shining through the window, and wanted to feel the sunlight on her back.
Mocha was glad that she had followed that impulse. The breeze blowing through her fur felt delightful and she it was wonderful to feel the grass under her paws. A purr slipped out of her unbidden. She had no plan for where she was going, she was just following wherever her paws lead her. It was all too easy to slip through the gaps in her twoleg's backyard fence to wander the other backyards of her neighbors.
