If only he could see this.
Urchinspine's chest swells with pride as Loonstar addresses graduates, new apprentices. Briarpaw and Gracepaw, Echokit, Frecklekit, and Victorykit's older siblings --- now warriors, no thanks to those useless parents of theirs. She stands and watches as Gracebringer practically pushes her brother aside, fluffy chest puffed out with pride as she shows off to her clan. Snapdragonpaw and Webpaw too, finally graduating alongside their peers. She chants their names like the rest of her clan, looking towards her sister on the sidelines. Sometimes she wonders if she glances towards her too, but it is pushed down deep by the venom in her chest.
Finally it happens, her three youngest are called by Loonstar. Primrosepaw, Lupinepaw, and Comfreypaw. Urchinspine smiles warmly, even if the bitter sting of their time together in the nursery was also when she lost her mate and son. Still, these are her beloved children, the last of her children. The last remnants she has of Oleanderwish, now becoming full warriors. Their father would be so proud if he could see them, she could practically picture the older tom next to her --- his stark white fur leaning against hers as he purred in pride. She glanced around again, seeing Daturablossom and Moonflowerheart near the front, cheering on their younger siblings. She smiled, wishing that Dandelion and Tulip could be here too.
These kits, her kits, were raised by the other caregiver while she recovered from her wounds inflicted by that dirty rogue. She tried to bridge the gap, but there was a noticable lack of affection from the three. They were hardly under her brood, after all, taken from her when they were one moon old so she could recover. Those five moons in recovery were the worst of her life, wishing every day that she and Oleander had been killed together so that Tulipmask could still have a chance at life. Her whiskers twitched in frustration at the selfishness of that thought, realizing now that she would have left these kits without a mother, leave the other kits without someone to care for them.
Primrosepaw had approached her a moon ago, knowing she was graduating. She had asked about her brother, saying that the caregiver that ended up raising her spoke often of him --- of the bravery he had to protect them and his mother. She wanted to honour the tom that let her live, asking Loonstar to bestow her with his likeness. Urchin felt her chest tighten when she was told about this, but she nodded. Tulipmask was probably sitting among them right now, watching the warrior she had become. She was first, gifted with the name Primrosemask, after her brother.
Urchin looked down, fighting tears. She didn't want the kits or apprentices that knew her as grumpy grandma Urchin to see her break. Her whiskers twitched, and she stared straight ahead, her voice breaking as she chanted "Primrosemask! Primrosemask!"
Her sons came next, they were given names befitting of their skills as warriors. Lupinehowl for his prowess in battle and Comfreywhisker for his kindness. She glanced to her side, as if looking for her mate and smiling softly.
"We did good, Oleander." She meowed, before her voice rose again, chanting her son's new names the loudest of her clanmates.
