MEADOWPAW
x

It'd been a few days now. She'd learned a little more about the bloody tom she'd found out while searching for Gladebloom. For starters, his name was Bengt. He was looking better—steadier on his paws, sharper in his words—gaining strength with each sunrise. He was talkative, too, for a cat so battered. Boredom made him curious, and he often passed time asking her things. Meadowpaw didn't mind. He had the energy to talk, and that in itself was a reward, a show of her efforts to keep him healthy and alive.

When he couldn't move much, she'd discovered something else about him. He knew a good deal about herbs, more than just cobwebs. He'd be a part of his treatment, maybe even a bigger one than she was.

Still, even if he was improving, he wasn't fully healed yet. Being rested and well-fed were going to be a huge part of his recovery now, but spending all day being cooped up wasn't good for him either. "Bengt, are you awake?" The calico shuffles through the mouth of the medicine-den, the scruff of a plump hare in her jaws.

She paused to set it down, spitting out a mouthful of fur. "Do you wanna…" Meadowpaw caught herself mid-sentence, then straightened up, choosing a more determined tone. "We're going to eat by the garden today. Okay?"

If she was gonna be a real medicine cat, then she needed to work on her assertiveness. Meadowpaw didn't like making anyone do stuff they didn't want to, but sometimes that was necessary for their health! Getting some sunshine and fresh air would do him a lot of good, so she couldn't afford to be lax. "A juicy hare is waiting for you and it's really nice out." Meadowpaw hobbles over to him, offering an encouraging nudge to coax him along.

WINDCLAN MEDICINE CAT APPRENTICE 10 MOONS SHE/HER
Meadowpaw values kindness and remembrance. As a kit, she internalized her mother's lessons, but questioned whether her way is the only way. She has broken free from the heavy burden of her mother's expectations due to their estrangement after the fire. She remains kind and soft-spoken through all she's endured, but is not afraid to speak out for what she believes is right.

Meadow works tirelessly at any task she undertakes, desperate to prove herself capable and worthy despite her disability. Without her mother's guidance, she finds new ways to express herself.

In conversations, she is gentle, thoughtful, and withdrawn, often hiding her struggles, fearing others seeing her as incapable. She continues to have a strong bond not only with her sister, but with her adopted family as well. Meadow uses her new freedom to support and deepen the bonds with her clanmates. Additionally, she has started to explore the more spiritual side of herself…

Her worldview is a complicated mix of hope and frustration. She wants to believe that there's hope at the end of all the suffering, but feels trapped by her limitations. With enough time and support, she may find a way to overcome her limitations and accept herself.

Another day of comfort—if Bengt had not been teetering on the edge of life and death just a few days prior, he would scoff at himself for allowing such laziness to seep into his bones. He deserves it, he thinks, and ultimately, he does not mention much about what had put him here in the first place. Some cat I didn't recognize, he says if anyone asks about the claws that had taken his eye. Hostile about territory. Nothing he had not seen plenty of times before. Cats like to claim a strip of lands as their own if it provides them with just enough food and shelter to survive.

He had previously thought the Clans were similar to those loners and rogues. Bengt might not be a coward, but he is not stupid either; he had circled the borders of these Clans before and seldom set paw within them if he could help it. There are way too many of them for him to intimidate or fight on his own.

His opinion on them is slowly but surely shifting. He sees kits and elders being cared for, apprentices being taught by so-called warriors. It's... a pleasant system. Not one he had ever thought he would see, certainly not from a Clan after how he had heard their very existence is rooted in bloodshed. Gossip has been spreading, enough for it to reach his ears, and Bengt knows that not everybody is very keen on his stay. Still; he had not been declined food or herbs, even though none of these cats owe him a single thing. Not even Meadowpaw.

"Yeup,"
Bengt says with the final letter coming out as a pop, shifting in his nest to look at Meadowpaw. He's been taking a lot more naps than ever, but he chalks it up to the tiny black seeds that do a wonderful job of keeping the pain at bay.
"Oooh, someone's getting feisty."
There is a grin plastered his face, but the expression and his tune are not unkind. Being forced into such close proximity with one cat has only lead to one thing: he is getting to know Meadowpaw more and more. Meek, shy little thing, whose paws tremble more often than not.

Bengt rises to his paws gingerly.
"After you."
The sun's rays are a welcome addition to his weary face.
"The garden—is that for your herbs?"
His interest in herbs have been positively piqued. Perhaps it's because of how useful he has proven himself to be to Meadowpaw.

Hollowmumble, -- 39 Moons / Windclan Cat -- Ages on the 14th
Black spotted ghost tabby with bright amber eyes.
She is friendly, yet quiet, and always willing to help.

It was really nice out, like Meadowpaw had said. The sun was warm on everyone's fur, with the occasional cloud in the sky, and no hints of rain in sight. The camp was bustling with cats walking around, chatting, grooming, eating prey and bringing in new kills for the prey pile. Kits were playing and apprentices were batting at each other and clumsily falling over one another. The laughter of younger cats echoed around, bickering and playing little games.

At the edge of camp where the tall grass shot up and loomed over, Hollowmumble sat like an everpresent shadow, a silent observer. She watched it all with studious eyes as she waited for Meadowpaw to come out of the medicine den, the new loner trailing behind. A small hare lay at her paws, freshly caught by herself earlier today. She stood, leaning down to pick up her catch and pad over to the two as they began to head to the garden, their lunch in her maw.

She wondered to herself, what this new loner thought of all of this. She knew the first time she came across a group- well, a friendly group she was quite stunned at it all. He's likely come across others before, of course, but... well, she wondered if he was going to stick around after his wound healed, or if he would move on. Dustystar implying that the newcomers should move along during the meeting the other day likely gave the impression that he was living off of borrowed time, here.

Hollowmumble herself wouldn't mind more well versed hunters in the clan. They had a lot of cats to feed, a majority apprentices who missed out on prey more often than not. Strolling up to Meadowpaw's side, she wordlessly fell in line beside her and followed them to the garden with their lunch, curious to overhear their conversation.

'Cause I'd get a thousand hugs from ten thousand lightning bugs
As they tried to teach me how to dance
A foxtrot above my head, a sock hop beneath my bed
A disco ball is just hanging by a thread

Cricketpaw watched intently from her perch, her one eye wide with curiosity as she tracked Bengt's giant form lumbering out of the medicine den. Her jaw went slack. Stars above, he really was huge. Like, smash-a-badger-with-a-paw huge. How was one cat so big?! That image was burned into her brain now, she'd never look at him the same again. She wasn't sure if Meadowpaw wanted some quiet time with her patient... but ah! Hollowmumble trotting after her sister seemed to settle that question. Welp!

With a quick skitter of her paws, Cricketpaw darted after Hollowmumble, blinking brightly up at the black-and-white she-cat with a sunny smile before bouncing ahead to fall into step beside Meadowpaw and Bengt. " Hello! " she chirped, whiskers trembling with excitement. " I caught a mouse yesterday, you know! Blossomtail was super proud of me, it was a feisty little thing! " Her steps were bouncy, almost like she was dancing across the path. She beamed as her eye swept across the garden. " The garden's real pretty, innit? Meadowpaw takes amazing care of it! I help too, sometimes. " she puffed up her chest. " But Meadowpaw's way better at it than me. " Her words were full of pride, her gaze warming as she looked up at her sister with admiration.

Then, she turned her attention to Bengt with a curious glint.
