Wisteriastrike lounges outside of the nursery, enjoying the last shreds of sunlight as they die. The molly frowns when dusk's chill burrows quickly into her fur, but almost stubbornly, the caretaker does not move right away. Instead, she cracks her eyes open towards the sky, as if she can damn the sun itself for abandoning her. When she looks, however, she catches something swooping through the growing shadows.

Is that a... "Bat?" She turns towards whomever was relaxing with her, eyebrows knit together. They're too high for a cat to simply... jump and grab, but that doesn't make them any less tantilizing. "How fun. They're taunting us!" Wisteriastrike silently laments their hunger struggles as another bat drifts through the sky.

Snowdropheart

Snowdropheart raises her head as Wisteriastrike speaks. "What, dear?" she asks, confused. "A bat?"

But sure enough, the swoop of wings above her makes her look up and there they are - bats, flying through the camp, as if delivering themselves into the fresh-kill pile. Oh, if only it was that easy. Unfortunately, the bats are way too high up for the warriors to have any chance of catching them.

Snowdropheart instead nuzzles her best friend sleepily, supressing a yawn. "I'm not sure if bats are smart enough to taunt us..."

BLACKTREE
Damn your love, damn your lies
The other caregivers' voices woke Blacktree from her nap, and she blinked as the dusk settled around them.

"Bats?" she mewed sleepily, padding out of the nursery to look to the sky. Sure enough, there were the little creatures flitting overhead, just too high for them to reach. Blacktree scoffed, narrowing her eyes at the animals.

"They may not be smart enough to taunt us, but with the lack of prey, it's taunting all the same," she muttered, taking a seat by Wisteriastrike.

BLACKTREE is a long-furred she-cat with vitiligo and brown eyes. A former Colony cat, she joined with Sable and the other future ShadowClan cats in the split. She still bears a scar from that night.

Silentkit is woken up by some of the other caregivers talking outside the nursery. She shakes herself off, bits of moss falling off, and pads towards the mouth of the den, struggling a little to balance on limbs too long for her body. She blinks against the dying sun, spotting flitting black shapes in the sky. They move too fast for her to really see them, just outlines against the light, but they look funny. Almost like mice with wings.

"Bats?" She says, to no one in particular– "what's bats? Can I eat it?" she looks up at them with her pitch black eyes, mildly curious. "They don't have feathers...? How are they flying then?"

When she looks to Snowdropheart, she almost wishes the warrior would rebuff her claims in a different way. Oh, if any ShadowClan cat would be foolish enough to scale a weak-boughed tree, in hopes of catching one of those frustrating bats. Unfortunately, not only does Snowdropheart suggest the prey's idiocy, but her friend snuggles in closer to her... and reluctantly, Wisteriastrike tugs her grip tighter around her white-pelted friend, too. At least she's warm.

Blacktree, with Silentkit tailing behind her, remarks that even if bats are too stupid to be purposeful, their swooping habits are nuisance enough. Wisteriastrike, with her muzzle tucked against her warrior friend's pelt, mumbles something in agreement - but she doesn't verbalize anything until Silentkit offers a question. One that, admittedly, the lilac warrior has no real answer to. But she will be damned to not continue the conversation.

"They have plenty of extra skin to catch the air," she suggests, her tail twitching as she lifts her head. She grins down at Silentkit, "Say, if your ears were big enough, I think you'd be able to fly, too!"

MAGGOTKIT

Maggotkit may not understand the what and whys of the world, but it knows one thing - its mother has once again left their nest. But this time, Maggotkit will not be left to whine, looking for milk.

This time, the kitten stands up and, though very wobbly, walks after its mother. The outside world is too bright, even if the sun has already set, but the kitten doesn't know what dusk and dawn is yet, all it knows is that this world's light is too much.

It squints against the sky and instantly yelps pathetically, falling on its belly, legs sprawled everywhere. There is something scary up in the air, threatening to hurt the kit.

What Maggotkit doesn't know is that its merely bats, flying way too high to get any close to hurting it. But since the kitten is unaware of such things, it quickly turns away and crawls back into the nursery, trembling from fear.

"...I've seen cats catch them before," Sealdawn muses from the meager freshkill pile, placing a lizard down before turning to join the small group in watching the bats despite her hunger. "But not without being in a tree."

Silentkit speaks up and the young warrior smiles at her question. "You can eat them, IF you can catch one. They never land on the ground and fly pretty fast. They're small, though, I don't think they'd be worth the effort unless it was a huge one."

Marrowpaw tracks the little flying rats as they circle camp, eyes flitting to and fro. Her ears twitch at clanmates' words, paused on the way to the freshkill pile. "
...Never land on the ground, huh?
" They mumble, sourness threatening to creep into the words. Figures it wouldn't be that easy.

Their teeth grit in a grimace-grin, gaze still fixed on the sky. "
Hah, wouldn't be so confident they're not taunting us. Seem pretty pleased with themselves, chittering like that.
" They're almost easier to follow by their squeaking, with how fast they move. She settles onto her haunches in anticipation, meal forgotten. It's always more satisfying to earn it, anyway. "
Now if one of them just swoops low enough...
" Maybe she could snag it, if she was fast. Small or not, it can't be worse than lizards again.
