Littlebrook stood at the river's edge, water lapping at her paws as the sunlight shimmered off the surface. Torrentpaw was beside her, like a young gup ready to learn the ways of the water, the ways to dive down. Anticipation ... And perhaps a hint of nerves. With a warm smile, she gave him a gentle nudge with her shoulder, eyes twinkling. " Breath is your anchor. " she said softly, voice low and even, made for calming uncertain paws. " Hold it like you're holding a pebble in your chest. Not too tight. Not too loose. Just… steady. Don't worry if it feels strange at first. "

She glanced down at him, her eyes kind, patient. " No cat learns this in one go. You'll mess up. Swallow a bit of river. Kick the wrong way. That's fine. It's good. Means you're learning. Don't rush. You've got time. " she assured the young paw, then finding her gaze moving up, to the place where she saw Pineheart watching this all. It caused a glint of fondness to lit upon her face, a quick and playful wink was tossed his way before she turned her full attention back on Torrentpaw.

" Watch closely. " she meowed softly and without another word, she stepped into the shallows. Water curled around her chest, then her chin. A deep breath. Stillness. And then she slipped beneath the surface like a river-stone falling, silent, smooth, sure. Bubbles rose in her wake as she disappeared beneath the blue-green sheen, leaving only the ripples behind. It remained still for a while longer before suddenly ,she emerged again, taking in a breath and shaking her head once before smiling over at Torrentpaw.

" The water is great today. A good day for learning. "

Not some average bones, I believe in love!

Torrentpaw's gaze darted across the water, eyes bright with excitement as his body urged him to leap in and attempt to dive. Though the slight sway of his shoulders from Littlebrook's gesture reminded him that he was here to listen, and learn.

He turned his head towards Littlebrook as she spoke, giving her a swift nod in understanding.

Torrentpaw then filled his lungs with air, in an attempt to get a feel of her description, completely missing Littlebrook's playful gesture towards Pineheart. He held his breath for a moment, focusing on the water's surface, before quickly exhaling as Littlebrook padded back into his sight. He watched her with bright eyes, his tail beginning to flick to and fro in interest as he took quick paces along the shore.

Halting as Littlebrook completely submerged beneath the surface, Torrentpaw's front paws met the water, his gaze flickering excitedly around the spot she had disappeared into. He felt his heart pound in anticipation as he waited for her to breach the surface, it seemed like moons had passed before he spotted the familiar point of her ears as she shook the water from her whiskers.

"You're amazing!" Torrentpaw exclaimed, his body and tail lifting in emphasis. Determination flowed through him, he couldn't wait any longer to feel the river in his fur. Shooting one last excited look towards Pineheart, Torrentpaw took another step into the shore.

Taking a few more hasty splashes into the water, Torrentpaw tread the river until it began to reach his chest as Littlebrook demonstrated, relishing the feel of the water flowing through his limbs. His tail curved through the river, aiding his balance against the slight current.

Drawing in a strong breath of air into his lungs, Torrentpaw drew his head back as he puffed out his chest fur, before pushing off the stone floor of the river with his hind paws, ears flat against his skull as he disappeared deeper into the water. His tail flicked once against the surface before following him into the river.

Grasping stones beneath his paws to give him an extra burst of speed, Torrentpaw glided along the floor of the river until he was beneath where Littlebrook treaded the surface, the sun filtering around her body. Pushing strongly off the bottom of the river, Torrentpaw kicked until his head reached the surface, water flowing from his upper body as he shook his large head, water flying in all directions. He took in a couple deep, quick gulps of air as he attempted to catch his breath, his lungs beginning to ease once more. Splashing softly as his body bobbed in place, Torrentpaw let out a laugh of exhilaration.

"It's harder than it looks!" Torrentpaw meowed, gazing at Littlebrook with utmost admiration. "How do you gain so much speed in just the water alone?" He asked, paddling to where his paws could stand against the river. "It's like the river carried you effortlessly." Torrentpaw continued, leaping around to face Littlebrook once again, gripping the stones beneath his paws. His gaze searched hers avidly, eager to leap back into the water and try again.

There was a certain warmth that bloomed in her chest as she watched the apprentice compliment her, a soft laugh escaping her before she rolled her eyes with a smile. " Flattery, dear Torrentpaw? " she teased, a light chuckle in her voice. " But thank you. I do try my best when it comes to life underwater. " She padded around the water, her paws slipping easily over the smooth river stones. She knew she was a strong diver, had always found a kind of peace beneath the surface. It had been hard after Rain… The memory prickled at the back of her mind. He had gotten stuck, and no matter how hard she tried, she hadn't been able to free him.

That wasn't the water's fault. That was the junk twolegs tossed in the sea.

She puffed out a soft breath, shaking the thought away. Now wasn't the time. She turned her attention back to Torrentpaw just as he took in a deep breath and slipped beneath the surface. She watched, alert and calm, timing how long until his head broke through again. There he was, gasping softly, but still eager and she nodded in quiet approval. " It is hard. " she agreed, her voice kind. " But with training, comes skill. "

When he asked how she moved so easily through the river, she smiled and tilted her head thoughtfully. " I follow the water. I listen to it. Speed comes when your body stops fighting the river and starts moving with it. You can't force the river to obey you. You have to learn its rhythm. " Her gaze softened. " It took me moons to understand that. And even now, some days… I get it wrong. " She leaned in to gently nudge his ear with her nose, playful affection in the gesture.

" Try again. But this time, focus on your breathing. Deep breath in before you dive… " She demonstrated, drawing in a long inhale through her nose, holding it a few heartbeats. " Then let it carry you as you push off. Don't worry about how far you get. Just feel the water. " A pause, her tone gentler still. " Be patient with yourself, Torrentpaw. "
