Twigpaw lazed around camp, a bit stuck in her mind. She tried her best to notice the grainy earth beneath her paws, the cool leaf-bare breeze against her fur, the rustling of the foliage around her. Ugh, I can't even focus on any of that.

Slumping down on a rock, Twig let out an exasperated breath. The aloof apprentice was usually unaccompanied and quite enjoyed the solitude, but she found that today, of all days, she'd have to admit her need for a little conversation.

The feline's green eyes peered around the camp. Starclan. The apprentice thought. Do I even have anyone to talk to?

" H-hello… What are you doing? " came the soft mew from the white-furred apprentice, his blue eyes wide and curious as he gazed down at the other. For a moment, the image of his old life flickered through his mind, scavenging alone through the shipyard, a little ghost slipping through shadows so no one would notice him. That had been before. Before Pikestar. Before family. Before he'd learned that his voice mattered, even when it trembled.

Now, he stood as Pikestar's apprentice, small, uncertain, but seen. " N-nothing to do? " he asked after a heartbeat, padding over to settle down beside the other apprentice. A light, tentative smile crossed his face, the kind that never quite reached full confidence but still held warmth. " None of the other kits or apprentices seem to be up yet either, huh? B-because I'm pretty sure Piranhakit would be racing around by now. " His whiskers twitched with a quiet hint of amusement as he glanced toward the nursery, then to the apprentices' den.

After a pause, his ears flicked. " …W-waiting for your mentor, maybe? "

TWIGPAW ✽ 7 MOONS ✽ RIVERCLAN

Twigpaw's ears perked up at the sound of pawsteps her way, followed by soft mews. Her eyes slowly moved up to meet the wide eyes of Iciclepaw.

"Yeah," Twigpaw started, her eyes darting away briefly as she brushed a paw against the stone beneath her, "It's pretty boring. Except maybe watching Piranhakit act like a minnow, running around with so much energy." The molly's eyes flickered back to meet the apprentice's. "I actually don't have a mentor yet... haven't been paired with anyone..."

Twigpaw took a moment to peer at Iciclepaw. She hadn't talked with him much before this moment. "So, what are your plans for this fine day?" The piebald apprentice motioned to the uneventful camp morning. "I guess there's a lot of potential for the day, no?"

Frostmoth has barely made it into camp before he spots Iciclepaw chattering with Twigpaw, asking what she's up to. To Frostmoth, it looks like the apprentice is lazing in the sun, and he has half the mind to ask if she's caught up on her duties. Though he is in a relatively good mood today, and it halfway seems like Iciclepaw is already doing it for him. Though it isn't until he draws closer that he hears Twigpaw state in a disappointed voice that she hasn't been given a mentor yet. Frostmoth grimaces and makes a note to himself to talk to Pikestar about that whenever he sees him again.

"You'll have a mentor soon enough," Frostmoth assures the apprentice, though he winces to think that any cat reaching apprentice age has gone without a mentor. Surely Twigpaw hasn't been an apprentice for long, right? The deputy isn't even sure that the protocol would be for a cat who begun their training late... There are some who are more difficult- like Rookpaw, who had been handed off to the short-tempered Pigeonpearl- who he assumes will spend longer in training... But even then... The deputy frowns, losing himself in thought for a moment before returning his gaze to Twigpaw. "Anyhow... You are welcome to join any of the other mentors and apprentices for training, so that you stay on track."

He is sure that Lavenderpaw, despite her good graces, would probably hate this, but he offers it anyhow: "You could come hunt with me and Lavenderpaw. She could show you a thing or two," he shrugs. There is a small amount of pride within Frostmoth to think of his apprentice as teaching another on basic skills, but he does not let it ink into his tone beyond feeling it grow in his chest. "Iciclepaw, you can come too, if you'd like," he glances at the pale-furred apprentice before turning to look and see if Lavenderpaw is ready to head out of camp yet.

The apprentice glanced at Frostmoth as he approached, and she gave a small nod in agreement, "I'm sure I'll get a mentor soon, I'd hope." Twigpaw tried to say the statement with confidence, but she found that her anxiety came out a bit more than she anticipated. Starclan, keep it together, you'll be fine. She lifted her head a bit higher in an attempt to seem more certain of herself. The molly knew it might not be convincing, but it was worth a shot.

She noticed the deputy glance away, thinking for a long moment, and she began to wonder what was occupying his mind. The piebald apprentice's brows furrowed at the sight of his frown, and Twigpaw felt a pang of worry. I know I started later than them, she thought, but I can't be too far behind...

At the sound of Frostmoth's offer, her anxiety only grew. She maintained her aloofness to a degree in that moment, but her mind ran. Great. I'm behind and now all the apprentices are gonna know it. As much as she didn't want to admit it, her solitude was her shield, and this impromptu training left her feeling self-conscious. "I can go with you hunting both. I-It's better than sitting around all day." She managed to squeak out, her mind still a bit frantic. She rose to her paws, glancing at Frostmoth and Iciclepaw, awaiting Lavenderpaw's potential arrival.

Lavenderpaw does not arrive when summoned. Despite her name being said so clearly, and the expectation for her to appear by her mentor's side so clear, the blue smoke molly does not do so. In fact, it's several minutes before she even peaks her head out of the apprentice's den, clearly annoyed by the sunlight that burns down on her, despite the leaf-fall chill. She grinds her teeth together, tired from another night of... being out. She should really manage her time better, she knows, but the young woman can't help but lose time when she's out with...

... Oh, fish-guts. Frostmoth's looking for me. She can see it in the way his crown tips side to side. Lavenderpaw grimaces as she quickly combs through her chest fur and foregoes her breakfast, slipping closer to the tom and the duo of apprentices. It's... a patrol of some kind, but it feels more like Frostmoth is playing babysitter than anything.

"Are you guys ready to go out?" She asks, assuming that this is some sort of training exercise. The molly tries to avoid her mentor's burning gaze, favoring Iciclepaw and Twigpaw's visages in the moment.

" W-well… I promise you'll have a mentor before you know it! " Iciclepaw mewed brightly, his tail giving a small, encouraging flick. The smile that followed was soft, genuine, the kind that made his eyes crease with shy warmth. When Twigpaw asked about his plans for the day, Iciclepaw blinked and looked around uncertainly. " I… I guess I'll be hunting, or maybe patrolling with Pikestar. It kinda depends on what he's planning. " His ears twitched, and he fumbled with his paws a little. " I've been working on my trainin' too… "

He gave a sheepish grin. " I-I'm not really a good fighter, though... " he admitted, voice dipping with embarrassment. But before the air could turn awkward, the appearance of Frostmoth drew his attention and relief flickered across his face. Hunting with Frostmoth? That sounded perfect! Surely Pikestar wouldn't mind, right? Especially if Lavenderpaw and Twigpaw were coming too. " I… I would like that. " he stammered, the tips of his ears burning as he dipped his head politely. His nerves eased a little when Lavenderpaw padded up to join them, and Iciclepaw's tail gave a small, excited twitch.

" Y-yeah! We're ready to go out! " he meowed, his voice trembling with eagerness. " You can show us all the good moves, Lavenderpaw! " His blue eyes shone with admiration, equal parts nervous and thrilled, like a kit seeing the world unfold for the first time.

Frostmoth tries not to let his gaze bore into Lavenderpaw as she joins them in a not so subtle manner. She had not been first to arrive to camp when dawn had broken that morning. A behavior that was fairly unlike the otherwise enthusiastic apprentice. The deputy knows that it would be awfully strange for Lavenderpaw to have such a sudden change of heart; unless, of course, there were some other extrinsic factor causing her to become more lax in her apprenticeship duties. Frostmoth says nothing. He simply watches her for a few more quiet moments as she avoids his gaze and prompts the group to ask about their readiness. Maybe this is a conversation to have with Lichentuft instead.

Frostmoth turns his gaze from his own apprentice to the other two in his group. This feels an awful lot like babysitting, but Frostmoth figures he'd rather be taking a group of polite and excited apprentices on a hunting patrols than attending to other more monotonous duties. "We'll go upriver from sunningrocks, closer to the waterfall," he decides, standing to turn towards the camp's entrance. He casts a glance over his shoulder and adds "I hope you all are ready to swim. There's no telling if the fish at the base of the falls are brought to the surface by the colder weather like the fish in the rest of the river."

A singular additional hard glance in Lavenderpaw's direction and then he is moving to brush through the reeds of the camp entrance.
