Rattlepaw hadn't been able to sleep even though the sun had set and the moon shone high in the night sky, the stars of those they had lost twinkling brightly in the darkness. He thought to maybe try and go to the river again and see that RiverClan apprentice if she happened to be at the border tonight too but something else guided his paws in a different direction tonight. Slinking out of camp under the cover of darkness that the night brought with it, Rattlepaw would simply stroll out into the territory not really aiming to go anywhere in particular but still feeling a sort of pull towards... Somewhere, he wasn't sure where yet but the feeling only ceased once he reached a small clearing in an area around the Sandy Hollow-- If he remembered his bearings correctly at least.

Moonlight draped the clearing in a silver glow and sparkled off of something dark and wet and... Red. A few tail-lengths ahead of him in the grass it glistened, it was only a small splatter but drawing closer he realized it belonged to a... Snake? The creature was stiff and unmoving, though he couldn't tell how long it had been dead for it was clearly no longer part of the land of the living.

He drew closer cautiously, honey coloured eyes darting around the clearing for whomever or whatever could have slayed the creature and left it in such a way. His own mismatched pelt would drown in the silver light from the moon above as he drew near the long coiled body. A closer look though did not bring him any closer to working out how exactly the snake had died either, there was the splattered blood but surely it wasn't enough blood lost to die from? The snake was also in an odd spot in the territory, nowhere near the rocks they were known to make a home of, he would've dismissed it as nothing more than another predator like a large bird of some kind having carelessly dropped it's prey if not for the shimmering on the blood catching his eye again.

The way it sparkled and how it extended to the scales of the creature as well was oddly beautiful in a way but also felt personal to him in a way he couldn't quite explain. It was as though even in death, the serpent was trying to tell him something.

To warn him.

The fur along his spine began to rise and his ears pinned back against his skull as fear snaked its way around his heart that slowly began to beat loud enough that it rang about in his mind, drowning out the night sounds of the forest. His breath quickening the apprentice would back away from the sparkling serpent. Was this some sort of sign? A warning even? From their ancestors up in StarClan maybe? It sparkled with the stars that had shone in his father's pelt when he had made an appearance at the first Gathering, as though StarClan themselves had reached down and placed the body here. But the stars on this creature's body could simply have been a trick of the night's light, surely? And yet, the feeling that had washed over him looking at it was undeniable, as was the phantom coppery taste that had filled his mouth that he had only ever tasted from prey before.

The feeling soon became overwhelming and his paws began to move before his mind did. Taking him back to camp as fast as they could. Racing back home like the scared animal that he was. Was he going to die? He didn't want to die. Was that what this warning even meant? What else could it possibly mean? Was it even a warning? Or was he just being a mouse-heart, scared of an already dead snake in the dark. Every rustle of a leaf or underbrush as well as every snap of a twig or stick on the way back to camp only made him run faster, regardless of if it was from a half-asleep squirrel or something more sinister. He needed to tell Rowanpaw... Or his mother, even though he wasn't quite sure how to approach her yet ever since she brought those three kits back to camp and claimed them as her own...

Rowanpaw though he knew would hear him out and help however she could. She was his big sister after all and probably one of the cats he felt the most closest too in all of ThunderClan-- In all of the forest even!

Rowanpaw he knew he could trust.

OOC- Using the "Signs & Spirits" Item for the vision/sign to occur in this post! The vision was discussed with/planned with @nya (Serpentberry) and @teddy (Rowanpaw) prior to the making of this thread.

The start of the post where the vision/sign is received is set during the half-moon meeting while finding Rowanpaw is set after and will take place in another thread. By the time he finds Rowanpaw, the events of this thread have already taken place and she is back in camp.
