{$title} Riverclan visits Thunderclan in order to tell them about the Shadowclan heist that occurred a few days prior.
Let's play like we're children and sing till the moons full

Before the day we turn to nothing but sand

Canonically Takes Place May 23rd
It was still early in the morning, the patrols having been assigned merely a few hours before ears heard the telltale flow of the river ahead. Peachtrot hadn't wanted to let to much time pass before they headed out, with the heist still on everyone's minds and the argument between Wavesong and Adderfang putting a slight damper on the overall mood. It was best to get paws moving and minds distracted. Everyone wanted to be able to play their parts and the red tabby would rather have them focused on improving their outside relations, instead of tearing apart the ones they had with their clanmates. Their family. Cause that's what they were, after all. Maybe not by blood. Maybe not by want. But they were pulled together by the sea. By the ships. By the flow of the river that now fed and protected them. They shouldn't tear each other apart like a mutuny does to a ship and their crew. No, they had to work together to fix these things, and, what better way to do that then to establish some friends on the outside of their waters.

"I guess we should be careful of how we say things." She decided to speak before they came out of the foliage and onto the open bank, pausing her steps. "We really just want to start with what happened. Let them know what Shadowclan did, ya know. I want to say that they'll reach out a paw to help but..." She paused, ears flickering. It was always hard with outsiders. So many different types of cats. "We shouldn't expect it. Still, even if they don't, we should be civil! Thank them for their thoughts and such. We still want to be on good terms after all this is over, ya know?" Peachtrot looked to each patrol member and gave a small nod before turning with a wave of her tail. "Let's go see how our neighbors are doing~" With a shake of a coat to let out her inner anxiousness, she moved out of the cover and onto the open bank.

Owlbark's tenure as a deputy was fresh. Only a few sunrises had happened since Juniperstar had chosen him, and it still felt wrong. He had blended in so nicely with his position as Storm Guard. Cats respected him enough to listen to direction, but he also was not of any real authority. Now, whenever he left the warriors den in the morning he felt eyes on him. Expectant, greedy for purpose eyes. How funny.

The brown tabby followed this patrol, content to give up some authority to whoever decided to lead it. He really didn't care for today. He was mostly wanting to really watch how patrols functioned and to see if there was any fat to trim from them. Owlbark's ideal patrol would be minimal chatter, a quick investigation and remarking, and a few pieces of prey to bring back. He hoped this patrol held up to those standard and he would have very little work to do with the warriors.

As he pushed from brush and into the sunningrocks' clearing, he held back an innate groan at the sight of RiverClanners. They were a cheery bunch, and he never had the energy necessary to be pleasant with them. Happily, he sat back and let the other cats greet the RiverClanners, for observation reasons, obviously.

There is an uncomfortable sort of familiarity Magnoliapeak finds in Owlbark's disposition. They aren't like mirror images of one another- Magnoliapeak can't even remember if she's heard him say more than one sentence at a time or crack a joke- but there is still enough similarity between them to make it... Uncomfortable. His rigidity, his need to follow rules and procedures, and his dogged loyalty. Owlbark is a bit harsher than Magnoliapeak, and that too speaks to their kindredness within and of itself. She wonders sometimes if Owlbark was supposed to be her father or brother, but that StarClan got it all mixed up.

Magnoliapeak has been given charge of this patrol, ceded by a particularly critical looking Owlbark. She doesn't view Owlbark any differently than she had when he was a storm guard, and even then the storm guards to her are just stand-out warriors. Still, she finds that he is a wise choice for her aunt to have made, unlike many of the others. She doesn't speak much to the others on the patrol, but she does slow when they come closer to sunningrocks. By now the scent of RiverClan is familiar. Fish and forest. But today it seems particularly strong, as if there are warm bodies nearby.

"Don't be too excited now, Owlbark," Magnoliapeak scoffs at the deputy's expression when he spots RiverClan waiting for them at sunningrocks. Owlbark doesn't usually seem excited about anything, but especially now he looks like he just wants to move on. "RiverClan," she turns to the friendly looking bunch, a bit thrown off by the combination of somber expressions with a still-cheery disposition. "I assume you have business if you're waiting for us," she clicks, sparing Owlbark a look to gauge his reaction "...You are waiting for ThunderClan, aren't you?"

Wavesong walked quietly alongside Peachtrot, a faint smile playing on her lips. Her gaze drifted to Crescentpaw every now and then, just to be sure he was still with them and holding up alright. When their eyes met, she offered her a warm wink and a gentle smile before returning her attention to Peachtrot's steady presence beside her. " Yer right, Peachy. " she agreed, her voice light as they padded along. She trotted a few tail-lengths ahead before settling near the border, her eyes scanning the trees beyond. Her gaze narrowed, not with hostility, but purpose. ShadowClan's misdeeds had to be known. If they were willing to strike RiverClan like this… who was to say they wouldn't try their luck elsewhere?

When a ThunderClan patrol finally emerged from the undergrowth, she dipped her head respectfully, the usual kindness in her tone. " G'day to ye lot! " she called, tail swaying in a friendly gesture. " We ain't here t'intrude or stir anything up, just figured we oughta pass somethin' along. Consider it neighborly lookin' out. " She glanced to Peachtrot for a heartbeat before continuing, her voice calm but firm. " Not too long ago, ShadowClan snuck into our territory at night. Stole our herbs. Harmed our medicine cat. And while we ain't bringin' trouble to yer paws, we thought it right t'make sure ye knew. Can't say what they might try next, seein' how close they are to ye. " Wavesong's tail flicked once, eyes thoughtful but clear. " They split from a fight with one of our patrols, and while most of 'em tangled with warriors, a few went straight for our camp. Our medicine den. " Her ears twitched, lips briefly tightening. " That's not just bold, that's despicable. "

She bowed her head slightly, respectful but serious. " We'll leave ye to it. Just… take care, will ye? Better safe than sorry. "

The heist just nights before and the subsequent argument between much of the council was.... Jarring. Even for Coyoteclaw. Dogflicker and Foxtail were okay, though Pigeonpearl seemed a little frustrated at her for trying to pry information out of that Shadowclan freak rather than going claws ablaze. She didn't mind a fight, but sometimes information is more useful than blood under the claws.

Despite all that, there was a quiet pride they had all managed to defend the camp at least somewhat; there had still been a break-in to the medicine cat den. Though it seemed that the new little apprentice of Jinglemoon's was okay, if rather shaken. Coyoteclaw's first action after chasing off that pair she, Dog and Pigeon had stumbled on was to go check on the apprentices, her own, mostly.

She had no idea how, but Riverclan had made her soft, in a way, she had slowly taken more and more to the idea of assimilating rather than standing by the wayside. Foxtail was on the council for a short while, which had been the first push. Then, spending time with her clanmates, her mind drifting to watching the apprentices as a favour to Adderfang to retrieve a small token for his mate, that was one of the rare moments she found good company with her clan. And most recently, being assigned her nervous little apprentice.

She had seen the upset in the poor things eyes since Pikestar lashed out at her, she had lost respect for him then and now since he seemed to be fumbling about like a fool in the wake of the raid, she found herself trusting the rest of the council rather than the word of their so called leader. If she were to do anything in this clan, it'd be to help that kid the best she could; she and her littermates had been forced to learn and fend for themselves at far too young an age, and she would be remiss to allow that to continue with Scalepaw.

Which was why she didn't scowl or roll her eyes when Peachtrot, the far too bright and energetic cat of the council, brought the first patrol out, including Coyoteclaw herself. She knew their goal, though she had only seen two of the many attackers as she heard the word spread through the clan. And they were tasked with checking in with and warning Thunderclan.

That alone was another motivator; she had no strong opinions on any of the clans, frankly. She found the tension to be immature and pathetic, quite honestly. Cowards who have to sneak under the guise of the night to steal plants? Rediculous. But there was a certain molly Coyoteclaw would keep an eye for, finding her rather enchanting, and there was a small hope to see her amidst the other faces of ThunderClan.

Though as a patrol met them at the border, she was surprised to see such sour faces. Maybe having lived in Riverclan really had softened her since she was more than used to smiling faces like Peach's, even those with a colder exterior had someone or the other they melted for, and that softness showed whenever they were about. But the tom and molly before them, who began to talk with Peach and Wave, they seemed far more cool and rigid. Not cruel to say, but even to Coyote's standards, they acted like they had thorns in their paws or something.

She did have to nod along, corroborating what Wave had to say as she seemed to take over the conversation mostly. The molly had the benefit of a commanding presence yet a reassuring kindness that anyone would be remiss to speak poorly to (then again, she had heard the argument between Adder and Wave, so maybe her own mate had missed that memo).

"We tried to pull the medicine cat to the side to figure out what on earth they were doing, but they had a giant chimaera acting as a body guard; it took three of us just to make them back off." Coyote shrugged, recalling what she had seen as a warning and addendum to what Wave had to say. "Not sure if it's much help, but keep an eye out like Wavesong says, we're not so sure we're the only target or if they plan to trespass into more territory over the next few nights."

The molly couldn't add much past what Wave or Peach had to say; if anything, she was there for the sake of protection. They had all been attacked once, and it could be dangerous with smaller patrols. Though she was curious what the Thunderclan cats had to say about it, Shadowclan were their other direct neighbours; if anything, they might be the next to be targeted...

Houndhowl follows the patrol along, eyes cast towards the treetops rather than the rest of the cats that trudge along with him. All he's really aware of is the leader (Magnoliapeak) and the one who takes up the rear (Owlbark). As the treetops thin in to open sky, he finally lets his gaze trail down and there he spots a Riverclan patrol on the opposite bank... And it seems the rest of the patrol has spotted them as well as they round up to stop.

Thankfully, the exchange of pleasantries didn't last too long. The black and white coated one warns them of Shadowclan, and Hound wants to half-bark a laugh of whats new, but his eyes narrow at the news. An invasion on Riverclan territory... But one little detail sticks out to him-

"They invaded your camp?" Houndhowl echoes with narrowed eyes, just to make sure he had heard them correctly. Cowards, the lot of them, really. He hadn't been much of a fan of Sablestar's followers since the colony days, and now this sinks his opinion further down below. He wasn't sure it had been possible, but by the Stars they had managed it. His nose wrinkles. The next one says that their medicine cat had a bodyguard, something that makes him frown. Premeditated... You don't just bring a bodyguard to have a peaceful conversation. And after all, even if Riverclan were pulling their tail (which seems unlikely, with the big patrol they had brought) he wouldn't put it past them to do so.

"We'll keep a lookout." eyes slide curiously to Owlbark, cocking a brow as he waits for what the other has to say, and then he swings his head towards Magnoliapeak, briefly gauging her reaction. Regardless, Juniperstar needed to hear about this.

He doesn't think it often, but he is grateful for Magnoliapeak. The she-cat was much more eager to do business in her own way than Owlbark. In a perfect world, he would be allowed to watch from the shadows. The tortoiseshell freely speaking her mind to these strangers would never be like him, and ThunderClan needed that. He sat on his haunches and swiveled his ears toward the group. ready to gather information.

All hope of a hands-off experience left Owlbark at the mention of ShadowClan. He held back a groan as he pushed his way to the front of the patrol. He thought of Brightpetal in this moment and how the tom would have had no trouble introducing himself to these other cats. The new deputy on the other hand, fought every fiber of his being to not just turn around and tell Juniperstar what he had heard.

Duty called, though. The tom nodded to Magnoliapeak and Houndhowl before clearing his throat."I'm Owlbark. ThunderClan's deputy. I have questions before you leave," he said. He was ready to get this over with.

"This chimera bodyguard you speak of. Were his eyes mismatched?" He already knew it had been Wolfpack, but he couldn't help himself from confirming the deputy's involvement. It was an entire clan project to invade RiverClan's camp. His pelt grew hot at the thought of Sablestar planning this raid. This infant of a clan - ThunderClan wasn't much older - must have slipped up somewhere to allow this. Perhaps in their cheery disposition ShadowClan saw weakness. Owlbark saw opportunity.

He would be speaking to Juniperstar as soon as they returned to camp. His chest heaved in a sigh as he thought of it. She was recovering from her death - the word prickled his mind - and he knew this would only bring down her mood more.

Come on, come on
We can go away

.

Dewshine was sure it was going to be just like any other patrol-largely uneventful. While it was boring, it seemed to be the norm for this side of their border. Riverclan had been friendly, seeming apologetic in their accidental trespass awhile back. Far better neighbors than Shadowclan, that was for sure- The smell of fish breaks the silver molly from her thoughts and she moves to a trot before slowing to a standstill beside Houndhowl. The black and white she cat- Wavesong she hears she's called- calls out with something that chills her very blood. Shadowclan had attacked their neighbors. For what? A few herbs? Why? Surely there had been no need to steal when just asking would have sufficed..? She nearly laughs bitterly. No. Of course not. She could not imagine Copper's father doing so at least, force was all he knew.

It takes Dewshine a moment to find her voice, tail flicking anxiously behind her for a moment before curling around her scarred leg. "...Thank you for letting us know, we have no love for Shadowclan, here. No one was hurt too badly, I hope?" She itched to help, orange eyes glancing at Owlbark expectantly. An unsaid question on her lips. Was there anything we could do to help..? The deputy steps forward with a question of his own-about Wolfpack- and she finds herself nodding. "If he had mismatched eyes it had to have been Wolfpack, I can't think of any other giant chimera from Shadowclan..." She trails off, another question of her own coming to mind though she's not sure how to word it.

Had Charcoal- Coalstrike- been there..? Had he been a part of this?

"You said they split off- do you know who was part of their patrol..? Or what they all looked like? Maybe we could help identify them..?" It was something small, but hopefully helpful.

She desperately hoped none had had the misfortune of running into the massive tom. From the sounds of it there had been no deaths, otherwise she was almost positive he had been part of this heist of theirs.

Frankly, Coyoteclaw hadn't expected her contribution to be met with more than a nod, so when the brown tabby calling himself the Thunderclan deputy and a gentler spoken silver molly drilled her more on the hulking tom she had run into, she was surprised. It didn't mean she dawdled on her response. "Aye, big hulking bastard, couldn't miss those eyes if I wanted to glaring at the lot of us like we'd drop dead on the spot" She chuckled dryly, she had managed to get out of the scuffle scar free but from the looks of her clanmates she and the others were lucky. "One blue, one orange, if y'all want them specifics. Sounds like y'all are familiar with the fella, Wolfpack was it?" She added on, just for confirmation, though she looked back now more curious. It seemed these cats might have had some background with Shadowclan. Now this she would be interested in hearing herself.

Though her mind again drifted to that night, the big fucker wasn't alone after all. "Aye, though, he was just protecting one other cat, that's all I saw, though. Tried to pry some information outta them but Pigeonpearl thought with her claws rather than her brain." It wasn't intended to throw her under the bus, but the three of them could have pried some info out of the bastard if they hadn't leapt claws first. "Freak of a cat, I gotta say. Do all Shadowclan cats have weird eyes 'cause I ain't ever seen a cat with eyes like an insect."

There was only so much she could help with, but she wanted to hear just as much to report back to the rest of the council, especially since it seemed these Thunderclan folk knew more than they let on. Though there was something else the silver molly had to say, and she paused, it wouldn't be wise to let it spread how many or how much folks had been injured, but then again, the raid had been no laughing matter.

"I wasn't there for the bigger fight since Wolfpack backed off the moment we threatened the little freak he was defending, but there were multiple groups attacking. Some cruel bastard went for our medicine cat, and some others ganged up and tried to-" She side eyed the rest of the patrol, realising both Wavesong and Cresentpaw were present, it felt cruel to recall exactly what befell Adderfang. "Well, they caused some serious damage to one of our council members. I heard something about a weird longfurred-shortfurred looking cat who got a good swipe to the face... And another giant fella, one Pine head to go head to head with. I ain't so sure about all the details though, I wasn't there."

She clicked her tongue, looking to the rest of the patrol with a tilt of the head. "Thankfully the raid was chased off with worse damage we ended up with, though they fight damn dirty so keep an eye out... Heard they brought apprentices for the main raid, I wouldn't put 'em past most things if I'm being honest." She shrugged, and for once, she was being honest.

Coyoteclaw wanted somewhere safe for her and her kin to live, and sometimes that meant alerting neighbours to the danger they may face, too. Squashing anything future from striking any of them seemed smart, but the council was already clashing and up in arms about everything. There was nothing someone like her could do but wait unless she wanted to get herself killed, throwing herself into something more dangerous than needed.

she could have been a poet

If Sandpiperpaw wanted to keep her tongue, she'd have to bite it for now. A RiverClan patrol, bundled in a fishy smell that made the apprentice wrinkle her nose strongly, bore news that a deeply petty part of herself grinned at.

Another point was taken from ShadowClan's existance in her mental tally, and another list of insults was blooming in its place. She didn't dare express those emotions aloud, not when Magnoliapeak was right beside her, and Owlbark beside her. Instead, she channeled it into a curled lip and swishing tail.
"No surprise the dirt-eaters grabbed your herbs." She muttered beneath her breath. "Rats love eating plants."

She wants to say more, but her jaw clamps down on her tongue. She can't use all her insults on one moment, so she forces herself to feign pity and twist her face into something solemn.

or, she could have been a fool
