His paws ached, but Salt thoroughly resisted being picked up and carried. He doesn't care if Boar ended up swinging from one of the stranger's jaws, but the gild of moonlight over his back was enough light to keep an eye on both of his brothers. Salt's ears pressed against his skull, trading looks between them, ensuring they hadn't attempted to break free, to ensure that these strangers weren't carrying them to their deaths. There might have been idle conversation, but Salt couldn't care less. The buzzing in his skull didn't ease, on constant look out for... for danger.

Salt swallowed as they made it to camp. The scent alone told him it was packed, like the mill, but he wasn't going to run. Not without his brothers. They pushed through a gorse tunnel, traveling into camp. It felt more.. open to the moonlight, a cloudless night that it was, vision stealing towards the sky. She, the moon, a constant reminder that they were alive. Ever waning and blooming. One of the cats in the mill, on the older side- which was a rarity- often told Salt about the moon, which he barely got to peek from out of the clear barrier that kept them all contained. Each and everytime, however, it was... comforting.

It was one of the only things keeping him rooted, if not just his brothers. Regardless, even under the moon's watchful gaze, Salt could feel the press of eyes from everywhere. Cats did not sleep, there were guards for the camp, cats only slightly bigger then Salt poking their heads from a den. Salt finally spoke up, voice thick with apprehension, moving closer to where Ice dangled from Dewshine's mouth. "Where are we." He demanded to know, ears flattening against his skull, resisting the urge to flash his teeth as those that looked on.

COPPER OF THUNDERCLAN

Copperstorm couldn't help the warmth that filled him as he glanced down at the small kit walking so determinedly beside him. The faintest of smiles tugged at his muzzle, a rare but genuine expression. Every so often, he cast a soft, reassuring look toward his mate, Dewshine, before checking on the other kits. Ice was hurting, Copperstorm could see it in the way the young tom moved, but Dewshine was making sure he wouldn't hurt any further. Boar, chatty as ever, was keeping pace beside him, their conversation carrying on despite the lisp that Copperstorm was still adjusting to. He was patient, willing to learn the rhythm of the young cat's speech, appreciating the effort Boar put into their words.

And then there was Salt. Salt, with that sharp, wary gaze and the ever-present scowl, watching everything with a cautious eye. She carried herself like a cat far older than her moons, adamant about doing things on her own and keeping her brothers safe.

If Boar had grown tired along the way and allowed it, Copperstorm would have carried him the rest of the journey. If not, he simply walked alongside the kit, matching his pace, ensuring he didn't fall behind.

As they finally reached camp, Salt's demanding voice cut through the air, sharp and challenging. Where are we? Copperstorm turned to her gently, his voice steady and calm. " This is ThunderClan's camp, young Salt. " he said, his amber eyes meeting hers. " We have a structure here. Order. Our leader is called Juniperstar. " He flicked his tail, gesturing around them. " There are warriors, cats who protect and provide for the Clan. Apprentices, young cats training to become warriors. Kits, just like you and your brothers. "

He let a moment pass, letting the words settle. " There's fresh-kill, warm nests, and safety. " His voice was firm, unwavering. " This is a safe space. " And he meant it. If anyone so much as looked at these kits the wrong way, he would make sure they knew their place. These young ones, innocent, battered by life but still standing, deserved better than to be met with cruelty. And he would make sure they got it.

I COULD NEVER WALK AWAY

When Copperstorm and Dewshine had gone out that day, Sunpaw hadn't expected them to return with kits in tow. He knew they were mates and all, but the ginger and white tom was pretty sure it didn't work like that. The three bundles of fur were too old, and the presence of Ghoststrike pretty much confirmed that the kittens were from somewhere else.

Always one to follow his curiosity, the ginger and white tabby got to his paws and quickly made his way over to investigate, The kittens themselves all seemed dishevelled and distressed in some way, and while the apprentice didn't consider himself a bleeding heart, it wasn't hard to feel bad for the group of younger cats. Wherever they'd just gone through, it'd probably sucked.

"Who're your new friends, Copperstorm? Should I go get Serpentberry?" the apprentice asked, his usual grin clouded over by a minor look of uncertainty as his gaze shifted between the warriors and the kits they'd brought in. All three looked like they'd seen better days, and in an attempt to help push the fact that this was a safe place, he quickly offereed the trio a toothy grin and introduced himself.

"I'm Sunpaw, by the way! I'm one of the apprentices that live here-which basically just means that I'm still in training to become a warrior." he explained, figuring they'd have no idea what an 'apprentice' was since he hadn't when it'd first been explained to him when they first got here.

The kitten mindlessly chattered so much to Copperstorm that he hadn't realised the ache in his body that had begun to take over. He was more than used to soreness in his bones from the mill, cramped cages and acrid scents. But as they walked, he took in the clear air of the forest, so many new scents and questions to ask these new cats and!- Boar's chattering ceased amidst a wheeze that caught in their throat. As much as they managed to ignore the ache in their paws, his lungs were nowhere near ready for the extended walk they'd ended up on. Boar swallowed hard, putting on a brave face as he trotted along to keep up with the brown tabby; Ice was the one who was hurt, not him.

It took a while, at least to him, but they reached a tunnel made of gorse. He watched as Dewshine with Ice padded through the tunnel, for a moment he looked up to Copperstorm, before passing through and into camp too. His eyes again lit up, seeing the cats walking about the area, curious and excited at the prospect of meeting them all! Though with them all finally coming to a stop, the ache throughout his body was impossible to ignore, promptly plopping himself down admist the grass, leaning against Copperstorm's leg in exhaustion. Though as the cat spoke, a purr still rumbled through Boar's throat. 'We're safe...'. It'd finally happened, maybe they hadn't made it to a twoleg home, but maybe living with these cats was their home instead?

Boar was in a tired daze and snapped out when an orange and white blur caught his attention. The apprentice smiled and introduced himself, Sunpaw. Despite how tired he was, Boar stepped forward and smiled back at the other, his peculiarly jutting bottom fangs making it awkward to set his lips back after, but with a shuffle of a paw against his mouth, he was able to speak again. "Hi Sthunpaw!" He beamed, even despite his exhaustion, his eyes glittered with joy. "I'm Boar, and they-" Motioning to Salt near him and Ice still held in Dewshine's jaws, "-are my sthiblingths!". Though curiosity was struck by what Sunpaw and Copperstorm had mentioned, warriors... He'd have to ask more when they'd taken all three of them to... Serpentberry was it? He wasn't paying the most attention, he was too entranced by the beauty of the camp and all the small details that seemed to capture his attention.

  • ooc - I might start adding a non-lisp translation for Boar cause he's gonna be struggling with pronunciation for a while and its gonna get confusing when we get more s-filled words.........

Thankfully no predators had shown their ugly faces on the impromptu patrol's return, which was a relief for the molly as she stepped through the gorse tunnel, precious cargo in tow. Boar had talked Copper's ear off the entire walk back to camp and if she wasn't carrying his sibling she may have joined in on the conversation. It was endearing. And Copperstorm was so patient with him...

Gently setting Ice down at her feet at Sunpaw's approach, Dewshine gave a slight nod to the apprentice. A tired small crossed her lips before a yawn left her. How late WAS it? "Thank you for offering, Sunpaw, that's very sweet of you. ...But if she's asleep I'd rather wake her myself. Save you from some trouble, hmm?" It was mostly in jest, but she suspected that the medicine cat would be less than pleased about being woken up at such a late hour, even if it was for something as important as checking over three kits that'd been abandoned on the thunderpath.

Salt's apprehension of where they all were wasn't lost on her, while Copperstorm's heart was in the right place she felt it was all a bit much to dump on the kits so soon. "Copperstorm is right, but you don't have to think about any of that right now. Just know that you're all safe here. Let's get you three checked out by Serpentberry and then we can get you settled in the nursery. Boar, Salt, follow me please."

Gently picking up Ice by the scruff once more, Dewshine waited for the two siblings to come closer to lead them toward Serpentberry's den. Hopefully she would be awake.

Boar would have loved nothing more than to sit and pester Sunpaw until the sun rose, he was so intrigued at whatever the three siblings had been dropped into. Clans, warriors, training, apprentices? He'd never heard of anything like that before, the other cats in the mill never said anything about it before. But just as he went to ask Sunpaw something, Dewshine spoke his name, his ears perking up. Was she taking the to that cat everyone was mentioning?

Boar got to his feet with a strained huff, cringing a little. Given a moment to rest, the aches in his body were impossible to ignore. He'd walked far longer than he'd ever had, having been stuck in that cage for so long his body wasn't used to it. With the cold biting at his paws and face, he really didn't want to walk any longer, but he had to listen to Dewshine, she was helping them after all. "Do we gotta walk far again? My pawths already hurt..." The kitten muttered, sheepishly. Ice was actually hurt, so a sense of shame crept in, whining about his own aches. His paws were bigger, a couple more toes than any other cats he'd seen, so shouldn't he be able to walk more? He bit his tongue and padded lightly to Dewshine's side, looking down as he winced with every step.

I WON'T SMILE, BUT I'LL SHOW YOU MY TEETH

Perhaps an outlier among the kits and those looking after them, was Ghoststrike. A distant presence on the outskirts of the group, a roaming phantom who'd stalked ahead on the trail to make sure nothing sinister was waiting in their path, drawn by the cries of the abandoned kittens left crying at the roadside. All attempts at comfort and explanation were left up to Dewshine, Burningdawn, and Copperstorm-- who Ghost still had his eye on after they'd paid Thunderflash one too many kind compliments.

He offered a nod in passing to Dewshine, a silent signal that his job was done here and thus his involvement as well– the rest would be for her and the others to figure out.

With that the giant turned and walked off toward his den, dismissing himself unless he was called back or needed.

OOC// obligatory post, but he doesn't plan on sticking around. You can stop him if you want to, but otherwise he's out :)

Ice swung from one of their saviors jaws, his vision muddied from tears still streaming from his eyes and a ring of mud around each paw. He sniffled, snot trailing down his nose. He was so out of it he didn't notice when the one carrying him spoke around the mouth full of fur that he was. Everything was so big and loud and he was finally realizing just how small he really was compared to either of his siblings, to the rest of the world. He was as insignificant as a fly on a carcass, and if Salt weren't there to protect him he didn't know what he would do. He'd probably just die, he didn't have the courage to do what Salt did, to protect him or his brother. It just wasn't in him.

He closed his eyes at the roughness against his face as they entered a long gorse tunnel, only opening them when the feeling passed. It was astounding, the amount of cats in that camp. He couldn't believe his eyes... yes, it was packed, but not in the same way the mill had been. He felt the wind in his fur and the cold moonlight on his back. It was different. And it was terrifying. He sucked snot back into his nose and started wiggling until the cat carrying him had the sense to put him down.

His foot hurt so bad and that pain came back to him as his paws hit the ground, as he sank low to the ground, ears flattening and brows pulling together in fear as he found his way to his siblings. He was outright hiding behind his bigger counterparts when Salt took it upon himself to speak for them. He didn't right care where they were, so long as he was safe and they would help them find food because-- ugh, gods his stomach was killing him.

That press of eyes from nearly every direction had him nearly trying to get underneath Salt, to hide his face, his throat. Hide every part of himself from those interested, terrifying eyes.

He listened to the male that spoke about this 'Thunderclan' and what they could offer them, and felt his ears loosen a little from the top of his head. Food? Warmth? Safe?

Those were all things he was wanting, both for him and his siblings. He couldn't want for more, not even for his foot to heal properly. He wouldn't want for more.

He didn't squirm under Dewshine's grasp, but his eyes did prick up with tears once more at the weight now off of his currently lame foot.
