The connection between Hawkstar and her first deputy had never been pleasant. It had never been particularly happy. Hawkstar had never seen Flowercloud as strong or sensible or worthy of her respect. She was a young mother, and the easiest choice among a sea of Coffeestar's traditionalistic lackeys, but Flowercloud had not been suited for leadership.
But clearly, she had gained StarClan's favor.
Within a week of Flowercloud being relieved of her position, StarClan had made it clear that their favor of SkyClan had begun to wane. Hawkstar did not have to directly commune with her predecessor to know that Coffeestar was staring down at her with a certain level of disdain, her soft face unnaturally contorted into disappointment.
Hawkstar's whiskers twitched at the thought.
If Flowercloud was the glue that held Hawkstar close to StarClan's favor, then it would be most pertinent to cultivate whatever relationship she could salvage with the woman. For the sake of her clan. For the sake of her pride.
Her whiskers twitched again as she popped her head into the warrior's den, her one electric blue eye flicking from warrior to warrior until it landed on her unfortunate target.
"Flowercloud, to me. You are needed for a patrol."
