LEADER OF SKYCLAN

.

The connection between Hawkstar and her first deputy had never been pleasant. It had never been particularly happy. Hawkstar had never seen Flowercloud as strong or sensible or worthy of her respect. She was a young mother, and the easiest choice among a sea of Coffeestar's traditionalistic lackeys, but Flowercloud had not been suited for leadership.

But clearly, she had gained StarClan's favor.

Within a week of Flowercloud being relieved of her position, StarClan had made it clear that their favor of SkyClan had begun to wane. Hawkstar did not have to directly commune with her predecessor to know that Coffeestar was staring down at her with a certain level of disdain, her soft face unnaturally contorted into disappointment.

Hawkstar's whiskers twitched at the thought.

If Flowercloud was the glue that held Hawkstar close to StarClan's favor, then it would be most pertinent to cultivate whatever relationship she could salvage with the woman. For the sake of her clan. For the sake of her pride.

Her whiskers twitched again as she popped her head into the warrior's den, her one electric blue eye flicking from warrior to warrior until it landed on her unfortunate target.

"Flowercloud, to me. You are needed for a patrol."

She wasn't necessarily asleep, her head resting on paws, green gaze apparent through slitted eyelids, ears tucked down into the fluffy folds of her cloudlike body. Cleanly kept, as usual, despite the dim brightness in her gaze- distant as it had been over these past few moons. Fake emotions spiraled to make it seem as if she was alright- despite her finally saying aloud that she was indeed not to her dear brother when she was kept in the confines of the medicine den with Swallowbteeze.

But who could expect her to be?

In a moment, she would pull herself from her nest, cast her gaze to her warrior kits- but instead other plans would be made. Hawkstars voice brought her to her paws almost immediately, rising like the giantess she was, and moving with her gait she had slowly become used to accepting.

Upon reaching Hawkstar, her gaze dropped, in a term of respect, chin dipping before lifting her gaze to Hawkstars single blue eye. "Will I be accompanying you today?" She asked, simply- ensuring herself that it was nothing more than work. They hardly exchanged words since Flowerclouds demotion, and she hardly expected anything from the leader besides simple formalties.

Her paws itched though, there were things she wanted to discuss with Hawkstar- but, she held her tongue. Unfortunately, Flowercloud wasn't good with confrontation, and it wouldn't hold her rank back, nor paint herself in a good light again, she felt. Hawkstar had always been stubborn in their steps, and for Flowercloud to sway a mind as solid as stone- was far outside of her skill set.

But, she would find her courage, or fail- as she had already done with her children.
