To a point, Comet wasn't sure of what to do. He blamed himself for a lot of things that had gone wrong, and he had little to no idea how to handle feeling so horrid. He wanted to do good, to be good, but in his panic during the barn fire he had gone back in when he was told not to— he was so terrified at the time. He wanted to see his brother get out safe, he felt awful that he had effectively asked Daz- Bushrunner- to risk death in that moment of desperation, and even worse that going back in had ultimately cost the life of Hoot in Comet's mind. The guilt had gotten so bad that he had an outburst, snapped at Dustystar, someone who he would argue lost far more than him.

So, yes, Comet still had his brother Eclipse... But Chickenscratch and Owlbear lost their father, for which Comet felt entirely responsible. This dense anvil of negative emotions that weighed on him caused him to have a massive lapse in judgement and act so far out of character, only compounding the guilt. This was wrong of him to have done, and he knew this instantly after he had failed to keep his composure.

Even though Dustystar seemed to have gotten past it, or at least not chosen to press the issue, Comet wanted to properly make things right. So, today, he had moved around camp, trying to see if she was available, if only for a brief moment.

"Uh, Dustystar?" Comet meeped, "Do you have some spare time, I need to talk to you." He paused. "Wait, was that too rigid? Guh, get it together, Comet!"

indentDustystar raises a brow at Cometpaw. "You're thinking out loud, again" It wasn't really a bad thing, for sure. Certainly one of the more endearing symptoms of his lack of filter. But loose muzzles collapse tunnels. after all. Hopefully he'll grow out of it.

indent"If you need to talk, I'm free right now." She pauses for a moment before asking. "Do you want to go somewhere more private? We can step out of camp, if you'd like, or talk in my den." Dustystar is happy her clan is coming to talk to her, but if this is going to be an emotionally charged conversation, which Cometpaw's face tells her it likely is, maybe they shouldn't be talking about it in the middle of camp.

"Oh! Oops." Comet plinked, he did just think out loud didn't he? He took a breath as if to make commentary on that and how it was a bit silly, but he stopped himself. There was a moment of silence, and it was obvious that he was trying not to think out loud since he figured it could get distracting sometimes. He looked a fair bit proud of himself for not blurting out some pointless little thought of his. The more meaningful things were spoken with clear intent! That was how Warriors were supposed to do it! This was the whole point of coming to see Dustystar!

That said, Comet hadn't thought that he would get this far. "Uhh..." He figured that Dustystar was going to be busy doing something so it took a second before he answered. "Is your den okay? I dunno if there's random other cats snooping around out there and I'd rather they not be nosey if they are." This was good, this was progress, right? Comet looked around somewhat anxiously, but he had to be braver than this since he intended to bring up some heavy topics.

indentDustystar nods, and then makes a motion with her tail, gesturing for the apprentice to follow her. 'Come on, then." She heads towards her den, fur bristling with anticipation.

indent The inside of her den is dark. As she enters through the tunnel beside the tallrock, her form blocks out the scarce sunlight that had managed to filter through the small opening for just a moment, before she moves fully inside. The interior is a bit cramped, but she'd made sure it was large enough for two cats to sit inside comfortably without brushing shoulders. Casually, she sits, tucking her paws underneath herself, and motions for Cometpaw to do the same.

indent"Were you worried about something, Cometpaw?" her brow furrows gently. "If I can help you in any way, I will, I promise you." Or she'll try, at least. If it's comfort he's after, he might be out of luck. 'If that's the case, I'll just send him to Honeyflower or Gladebloom... They'll sort him out, I'm sure'

Comet nods and follows Dustystar, examining the den whilst able to. It was kinda comforting, cozy. He could see why she got it sorted out and made this way. What's more, it wasn't super small so they would be able to just sit down together. "This is a nice den." He commented, taking a spot to tuck his paws under himself snugly.

When Dustystar asked if he was worried about something, Comet took a moment to think it through. Was he worried? He tilted his head. "Nnno. I.. Don't think so?" Actually, the fact he even got this far was allowing him to think clearer, to breathe without a weight in his chest. "Maybe I was before I asked to talk to you, because there's a lot on my mind and I've got some important things to say, but... I'm not afraid to do that anymore." He smiled. "I think you asking me that really helped, so thank you."

If anything, he was here for closure, and not even closure of his own necessarily.

Taking a breath to center himself, Comet looked up at Dustystar, a spark of that old determination he had in his eyes. "So, the first thing is... I should have done it earlier, but I want to properly apologize to you. After the fire, yanno, I wasn't the only one to lose someone close to me, others did, you did. Even if I was in pain and grieving... It was unfair and cruel of me to blow up at you when you tried to gather us and give us some direction, give us hope. I should have seen that. I'm sorry, Dustystar." Comet bowed his head apologetically.

"There's another thing that I was thinking about since we helped Meadowpaw with that memorial. Something to honor those that we lost, like, in a way accepting they have departed, but also bringing them with us in our hearts. What do you think about honoring them with their own Warrior names? Maybe if we do that, they'll rest easier, or something. I uhm, I think they all deserve that honor, is all." It was about as straightforward as he could make it, and it was clear that he put a lot of thought into it.
