pine tar and evergreens mark the familiar scent of the recently reclaimed skyclan territory. the undergrowth is suffocated by the fallen pine needles, leaving it sparse and open; it is only dotted by flower fields where the trees disperse to leave empty spaces. with little to brush against, skyclan's scent is not particularly potent and rides along the breeze...

navigating the territory comes with the need for a rare skill- fleeting through the sturdy branches as if they are themselves squirrels and fluttering birds. they often find their paws scuffed by the harsh bark, and sticky where sappy limbs have touched them.

skyclan cats are more likely to have a wide range of coat colors and patterns due to their eclectic kitty-pet heritage. the unifying trait of most skyclanners are their hardened paw-pads and strong back-leg muscles, owing to their proclivity to scaling trees ... or rocky cliffsides, for the older generations.

to manage in the dense trees they hunt in, skyclan prioritizes being nimble-footed with a focus in tree-climbing skills. they apply this advantage in height into their combat and leap from the canopy like owls with eager talons to ambush those far below.​

RANKS

as messengers of the Old Ways, SkyClan typically hosts their meetings under the sunhigh glow when the sun breaches the pine canopy. ceremonies tend to be long-winded as the tall trees that surround them, hoping that more words will push their speech higher and higher so that the stars themselves can hear them.

WARRIORS

. . . are those who have completed their training and have been given their warrior name by their clan leader. they are in charge of completing regular border patrols, hunting patrols, protecting the clan from threats, and nurturing the apprentices in their teachings to ensure clan survival. though an unofficial rank, senior warriors are those who've spent many moons honing their craft as warriors and raising up the younger generations to foster success for the clan. they are respected and are most likely to be selected to become sun guards. by default all cats are warriors and warriors are expected to fight and defend their clan, but a warrior can opt to instead take on a specialized role unique to SkyClan:

DAYLIGHT WARRIORS

. . . A kittypet who assists the clan during the day before returning home to their twoleg nest. They will often wear their twoleg collars and be expected to contribute as any other warrior would.

SCOUTS

. . . The most skilled of SkyClan's climbers, capable of scaling massive trees with amazing balance and dexterity, they often perch high surveying the territory and keeping an eye on sky-born predators as well as trespassers creeping down below.

SUN GUARDS

. . . are the chosen advisors of the current leader. these may be replaced under each new leader or may persist through multiple leaderships. they're often responsible for overseeing mass trainings, leading patrols, and offering counsel to the leader.

CAMP

an area of dense pine trees surround this open clearing- the brush is thickest here where the pine litter does not suffocate the ferns and grasses, making it the perfect place to rest. several bushes have been hollowed out and reinforced to become dens and the dilapidated forms of some fallen trees have been repurposed and gouged to store herbs, house the leader, and serve as a perch for meetings. this area is spacious, with plenty of open area with small trees dotting the edges for kits to practice their climbing safely. just north of the leader's den is the largest tree in the territory, the Tallpine, which is used as a proving grounds for any hot-heads.

LIGHTNING'S GRASP

a wide-limbed tree with paw-like grasp reaching for the stars, it is assumed an omen of the forgotten clans and their final, dying breath to reach for the heavens. some say this area is haunted, the whistling of the breeze whipping terrifyingly through the barren branches. even in the height of green-leaf, it remains empty... lifeless... a gravestone.

MOONLIT GORGE

a deep chasm splits the earth along the border of skyclan's territory, with only a wood-crafted bridge to span its great length. it is a hungry beast, with the bubbling of wild rapids far below and spelling certain death for any who might tip over its edge.

FOX BURROW

this area is known for being the nesting grounds of various predators, most notably a fox burrow that is frequented during each spring. fox kits are common in the new leaf warmth and prove a constant hazard that the clan must be aware of and navigate around... of course, there are always foolhardy apprentices eager to dare each other to mark it without fleeing.

CLIMATE, FLORA & FAUNA

generally noted for warm summers and cold winters. summer seasons rarely exceed 90*F/32°C, while winters are much colder, tending towards sub 12*F/-11°C temperatures in the peak of the season. transitional seasons (spring and autumn) average closer to crisp 45*F/5°C temperature, noted by consistent and heavy rains as the territory expects 170 inches of rain each year. while these are not hard and fast rules for roleplay, it should summarize the general climate of our area!

LEADERSHIP GUIDELINES & RULINGS

Each leader will have their own ideas for what they expect of their clan, of what they believe in, of what rules are most important to follow and how they feel about other clans. They will also have different ideas for how a warrior should be named and conduct themselves, how apprentices should be treated etc...This will detail information on how the clan runs under the current leadership. TRADITIONS RULES POLITICS NAMING CONVENTIONS

• on warrior assessments: Hawkstar is a cat dedicated to both organization and creativity, which makes it no surprise that her favorite thing to do is oversee the training of apprentices and create intricate warrior assessments for each and every one. While this duty would typically be reserved for her deputy, Hawkstar makes it a point to be involved with at least one training session per moon to get a good grasp of the strengths and weaknesses of each trainee. Their assessment will then be specifically crafted to challenge the traits Hawkstar thought most important... mentors may or may not be involved in this process, depending on their standing with Hawkstar on any given day.
• All cats are expected to pull their weight, regardless of age or standing within the clan. Hawkstar sets herself as the final authority on whether or not a cat is explicitly "useful", though... her official stance can be swayed by a good appeal to her ego.
  
  All "rumors" or "gossip" must be reported to Hawkstar immediately! Whoever gives the best piece of news will receive one free day off from patrols... to tell Hawkstar all the juiciest parts of the latest scandal.
• SkyClan's general political stance is self-contained. They tend to guard their border regularly, and generally view the other clans with extreme distrust, if Hawkstar cannot find some use out of alliance or "friendliness". Hawkstar regularly uses her scouts as spies at the border... and maybe beyond, if she can get away with it. Hawkstar's positions on various ranks and joiners are listed loosely below:

  - joiners: Just because Hawkstar will allow joiners, it doesn't totally mean that she is inclined to like or respect them. While children under the age of 6 moons are alright in her book, adult cats will be expected to earn their place in SkyClan... and maybe go through a few leader-mandated hazing rituals to boot.
  
  - daylight warriors. Further extending her dislike of loners and other non-SkyClanners, Hawkstar has a chip on her shoulder about daylight warriors. While she refuses to get rid of the rank due to sheer lack of numbers, Hawkstar resents the idea that any cat can "half-commit" to the clan she has been attempting to build for so long. If a daylight warrior does survive decide to join SkyClan full-time, they would be permitted to keep their kittypet name if they so choose... but Hawkstar would prefer to rename rather than let the stink of the past linger...
  
  - caregivers. Hawkstar is a big fan of children and so she understands the importance of good early childhood development and teaching. Cats that decide to take up the role of caregiver, no matter their other skills, are worthy of the utmost respect and may or may not be above reproach in Hawkstar's eyes... at the very least, they are worth the rare apology if she happens to mispeak (it's so rare, you'll probably never see it though.
  
  - elders. Older cats are expected to work and train just as hard as the younger cats... perhaps to serious detriment? Despite her harsh tactics and views, Hawkstar would and will never send a cat to the elder's den for a disability unless explicitly asked, and even then, she would find doing such a thing highly distasteful as a cat with a life-altering injury herself.

• Hawkstar is most likely to name a cat after their accomplishments and education, rather than personality or moral compass. She has a slowly growing system as far as her naming conventions go, outlined loosely below:

  Hawkstar is loathe to use names that could specifically refer to the skills evident in other clans, and often uses warrior names to differentiate warriors that impress her from warriors that clearly didn't. While not always obvious, Hawkstar is never above giving someone an insulting name if she deems them undesirable in any way.

  Hawkstar is always open to renaming anyone who requests it... or anyone that is open to it, really.
