I WONT SMILE, BUT I'LL SHOW YOU MY TEETH

The scent of asphalt was faint but unmistakable, curling in on the wind like smoke from an old fire. Not close enough to sting, but close enough that he couldn't chase it away with the smells of the grass and dirt around him.
It was familiar, but not in a good way.
Those first few moons after the clan had settled in their new territory, Ghost had forced himself to walk this border over, and over. Until the smell of concrete and the sound of dogs barking no longer made his hackles rise. The Coalition would never truly leave him, just like the identification scars on his hind leg would never disapear– but his new clan would never see that side of him. He'd bury it just like the marks on his leg, which were nearly imperceptible among the overlay of others that littered his towering frame.
And if any of his old discomfort remained, it didn't show.
Instead, he was a picture of quiet calm, dark eyes alert and calculating as they reached the edge of the treeline and peered out into the grassy stretch the separated their woods from the twoleg gardens.
He didn't say anything at first, just went over the mental checklist they'd been given by the old tomcat who'd sent them out this way. Twoleg nest with the bright red roof- straight ahead. A big mulberry bush- just to the left and past the treeline. Which meant the tree they were looking for– the super obvious one they absolutely couldn't miss because it's bark was white, should be just off to the side…..
Nothing. Just overgrown grass and a very large hazelbush.
When he finally spoke, his voice was low but not exactly quiet. "You seein' it?" he asked, glancing toward Thunderflash, then back again.
He sure wasn't. The general area the elder had described to them all seemed to match up otherwise– save for a single missing birch tree that was meant to be their final marker. A gravestone of sorts, for the item they were on retrieval for.

PROMPT; A respected elder reveals they once buried a treasured kittypet collar near Twolegplace– a gift from a long-gone friend. They want it back before they die. Ghost and Thunder go to retrieve it, only to discover it's now part of a very pregnant raccoon's den, buried in with the rest of it's junkpile hoard of shiny things– and it doesn't seem keen on giving it up. They could try just chasing it off, but it doesn't seem like good sport to chase a soon-to-be-mother from their nest. Surely there's an alternative?

So, I figured the tree that they're looking for has been cut down by humans a while back, and now a pregnant raccoon in posted up in the stump using it a nest/hoarding spot for all the shiny stuff it's found? Which includes the collar that was once buried among the roots of the tree? Thunder can discover the stump on the other side of the hazelbush if you want @THUNDERFLASH
