The gathering... It started off so well only to end in total disaster. He heard that Juniperstar had lost a life to Hawkstar in order to defend her deputy. The exact reason for why this needed to transpire wasn't clear to him. All he had was the information passed down to him from others, which was unreliable. Unfortunately, he was unable to check on the Thunderclan leader due to recovering from losing a life as well. It shouldn't be something he found amusing. However, his mind still chuffed at the thought of the first two leaders at the gathering losing their lives.

His silver paws led him to fourtrees. Despite the fact that this place now held horrid memories for him, he couldn't stay away. Instinctively green eyes wander in the general direction of where he once laid surrounded by others. Bile rises to his throat when the image of Adderfang clawing at him relentlessly suddenly worms itself into the forefront of his mind. It's been days since the former life guard has been exiled, but Pikestar couldn't forget. The aches still lingered and at night? Oh, it was dreadful. Adderfang haunted him in his dreams. It was only a question of how fast the dream would take a dark turn. The worst was when nothing bad happened at all. It left him waking up with more questions than answers. His frame began to tremble. Green eyes dart from tree to tree until they finally land on someone.

Sablestar. The leader is a bit of a distance away, but he seems more interested in the scenery to pay any mind to Pikestar trying to settle his nerves. Its almost laughable how the Shadowclan leader's presence soothes him, knowing that the moment Sablestar truly focused on him would be unsettling. It is a bad idea. To give in to his curiosity and speak to the other leader. However, they never shared a conversation before. Even at the gathering, Pikestar only watched from afar. He doesn't even know if the Shadowclan leader knows his name. Without a doubt the black and white tom would recognize him. Considering Pikestar spoke with Juniperstar after the Shadowclan leader greeted her. I want to know him better. I can learn from him. He's cunning. He was able to see how divide Riverclan is in a few moments.
"Sablestar?"
As soon as he's gained the attention of the other leader, he bows in respect. It is unwise to converse as if they were friends.

"I'm surprised to see Shadowclan's leader here after what happened at the gathering."
Did he figure out who I am? I only look a little different, but he should recognize me. I shouldn't bring up Juniperstar unless he talks about her first.
"Excuse me for being bold in saying this, but why are you here? Are you thinking about having to bring Shadowclan here every other full moon?"
In this moment he is regretting giving in speaking to the Sablestar. It's beyond difficult to even form a sentence. He doesn't want to raise any eyebrows from the other, but he also doesn't want to get the shadowclanner pissed. The last thing he wants is to be mauled again.

The silence he is met with nearly suffocates him, so much so that he sheepishly tacks on,
"U-uhm! You don't have to answer that! S-sorry. I'm not from your clan, so I really shouldn't expect an answer."
That should be good right? I didn't say anything too bad. I think. I HOPE.
"I'm here to... Try and get over the bad things that happened. I hope the next time all of us, or whoever comes for the next gathering, I won't let the bad things get to me."
He shifts his attention to the moon above them.
"After all, this is such a nice place. I'd like to have happier memories here."

Sablestar stood where Wolfpack had bled him freely just a few weeks before. The scent of his death long gone, even by the evening of Juniperstar's party and replaced with others. His wounds had sealed and his mind cleared of the shaky paranoia that clawed the back of his mind, lost in the fear of what happened next. A shame something beyond Cicadabuzz's skill had festered and boiled beneath the skin and now he is unsure of where his lives lay in number. There were other matters outside of him to attend to so swiftly afterward that he had little time to dwell once recovered.

Playing the diplomat under the scouring, watchful gaze of so many expecting eyes was sure to be exhausting but he would have never expected what occurred the night of Juniperstar's death. She had embraced meeting with her stars far easier than he anticipated when his own confrontation was walked on a far more uncertain path. He wondered if that was the first of her lives lost.

He returned to Fourtrees alone to think of what he had endured and what it could mean for the future. Though it felt so far away, these lives would slip from his paws eventually. What would come after him? He thought of Wolfpack succeeding as Champion, or the possibility of his own children. He couldn't allow his children to see the demise that awaited their father, he couldn't possibly think of a day they would know.

The scent of RiverClan warned him of their presence before he heard Pikestar's simple greeting. Marred eyes flick from the treetops to the silver tabby's face and he bows his head in turn, recognizing him from RiverClan's patrol and briefly the night of the full moon. He was more talkative than he recalled this night, however. The RiverClanner does cause his head to tilt in curiosity, wondering what could be so surprising about his appearance. He blinked once, twice, unsure how to respond. He could not tell the truth, obviously, but a solo hunt in neutral grounds wasn't something he often did, either.

It is difficult to fight the frown tugging at his maw as he is reminded of Thornstar's command. "ShadowClan will not deny the opportunity of a peaceful night. I think my warriors rather enjoyed it." Even if his apprentices could hardly hold themselves together, he had only heard positive things from his warriors interacting with the other Clans with SkyClan's exception. He finds this warrior more amusing than pestering, though. Far less tense in his presence than the other RiverClanners he's met.

"Did Juniperstar's death shake RiverClan that much?" His meow is remained carefully neutral. ShadowClan and ThunderClan had far more long, tangled, complex roots with one another that it did not seem odd how some of his Clan reacted. He was curious to know just how friendly Juniperstar may have gotten with her other border. "I 'spose you don't know what else has happened here, then." Happier memories were a hopeful wish from anyone that still stuck around after the Colony split. "It's a lot to ask for. There's a mystery about this place... brings out the worst in some."

So Shadowclan is coming. That's good to know. I better not push it. Instead of verbally answering, the silver tom nods. At the very least, this information will give him time to prepare for when they next meet. He didn't want the clan to continue snarling each and every time Shadowclan showed their faces at future gatherings.

"Did Juniperstar's death shake RiverClan that much?"

Juniperstar. Of course, he would ask how Riverclan felt about the matter. He was right in his assessment that Sablestar cared about her, could even be swayed by her. Even if he tried to hide it, he would remember the tuxedo affectionately greeting Juniperstar. While it was evident the molly was more than a little uncomfortable, he and Dustystar stood awkwardly at the side. Watching as the world consisted of only Juniperstar. There was no reason to lie or hide his feelings for her.
"It has. Especially for Riverclan's leader. They think of Juniperstar as a friend. She has shown nothing but kindness to Riverclan and we try our best to respect her boundaries. It's been worrying that she hasn't been around the borders as often, but we can only hope she is recovering. "
He cares not of the Shadowclan leader's opinion. He did not need permission to care about the other leader. It pained him that he could not help lessen the weight on her shoulders, but he too had been dead.

Whatever the case, it seemed as Sablestar was satisfied by the answer, or at least by him. Enough to continue their conversation. You know what happened here, don't you? It wants to leave his maw, but he remains silent as Sablestar presses on. He had an inkling something had happened here with the way Juniperstar carried herself. How she reacted to the Shadowclan leader. Those two had a history. One he wouldn't dare to ask for. All he could hope was that she would open his heart to him in time. Even if he was bumbling and weak, he wanted to support her. Whatever she shared wouldn't be spoken to anyone else. However, she was wary of him. Wary of the possibility of Riverclan, no Pikestar trying to claim the Sunningrocks. He could not blame her. Things were certainly complicated.

He thinks of Adderfang. If what Sablestar said was true then Pikestar's biggest mistake was bringing the former life guard to this place. It had corrupted the brown tom and gave them the strength to kill him. It would be easily to cling to this reason. To pretend that it was not a culmination of his own failures that led Adderfang to act out of love. That the fault lied in the mystery of this place. He turns to look at Sablestar directly.
"I don't believe that."

"I may not know what happened here, but I know the worst wasn't brought out because of this place. The worst is brought out in cats who have been pushed too far. Lost so much. Felt wronged and maybe have been wronged by others. Maybe hated the way things were and wanted to change it."
He tilts his head to the starry sky.
"If they believed what they were doing was right, is it really the worst in them?"
He should hate Adderfang for killing him, but in his heart he is unable to. It was because of him that the brown tom nearly lost his wife. It was because of him that his kits didn't have any herbs and remained sick. There could have been a better way to fix this together, but Adderfang had enough. Did he try to solve it in the worst way possible? Yes. However, it was the best path in his eyes. If Pikestar didn't have nine lives to spare, the situation would've been dealt with. Riverclan would have a more competent leader.

Why is he even bothering to share his thoughts on the matter? It isn't as if Sablestar would care about a lowly Riverclan warriors opinion.
"I thought this place brought out the best in me."
It leaves his maw without thinking. For once, the silence between the two leaders isn't heavy. He feels at ease oddly enough sitting beside the Shadowclan leader while gazing at the stars above.
