Hello and welcome to Purrgatory! We are an 18+ Warrior Cat Roleplay set in an AU where the clans were unable to leave the forest territories and perished!
It has been 100 or more years since then, the clans of the forest are but distant memories to any cats still alive, stories passed down to kits of strangely named wild warriors and leaders with nine lives but the time of the clans is upon us once more and the stars shine yet again.
OOC- I figured we could set this the day before the clan leaves? Maybe the two can do a bit of bonding so they aren't strangers during the journey? At this point Zukos probably has been here for 3-4 days and two of them were spent in the medicine cats den. Right now he's just sitting in camp toward the end of the day, resting after his first official day of training.
It was officially the end of his first day of training, and he finally felt a little more confident about calling himself a Skyclanner. He had a mentor, a nest in the apprentices den, and would soon be joining the group in journeying to new lands. It was as close to 'going his way' as things had been since the argument with his father.
For the first time in days, Zuko allowed himself to feel the weight of his situation. His father had kicked him out of the colony as a disgrace. His mother had disowned him and set her claws to his face, leaving a deep set of gashes over his right eye that had been lucky not to blind him. He hadn't even gotten to say goodbye to his littermates before she'd shoved him out the door and told him not to come back, claiming he was no son of hers if he couldn't even hold the respect of his father. That had hurt more than the bleeding wounds she'd inflicted, leaving him to stumble away half blind to try and figure out where to go from there and what to do.
Now, as he sat in Skyclans camp, he knew exactly what to do to regain his fathers respect and his mothers love. He just had to work hard and be patient– to be strong even though he was unsure. He would make this journey with Skyclan and he'd earn their trust and respect. He'd become the strong, fearless cat his fool of a father thought he would never be, and when he returned he'd make them regret
"You can do this." He took in a steadying breath, holding it for a moment before letting it out. It was a mantra he'd been repeating to himself over and over since he was sent away, only now it felt like it might really be possible. Yes, he would have to follow this clan of cats off into the unknown and hope for the best, but if he managed to survive then the possibilities were endless. He'd already been cleared by the healer and assigned to a mentor who was supposed to train him, so as long as he took things seriously then there was nothing stopping him from becoming a fierce, strong warrior.
And then, one day, leader. he thought to himself with a small smirk, ambitions rising high at the thought. There was no way his father would be able to deny his worth if he came back as leader of an entire clan, and then he'd finally be welcomed home, able to see the littermates he'd never even gotten to say goodbye to.
Zuko is interesting to Asphodelpaw, in the sense of the fact the stoic tom has been held up in the medicine den for the past few days. It helped that Asphodelpaw was excited to speak with well anyone really, but the mystery of a stranger was one that they couldn't possibly pass up. They hadn't been there when he wound up by their border, the stars must have been out to spite them that day in particular because they weren't in camp when he joined then either! Just rotten luck for the apprentice all around, today though. Today was different. Paws ached after what felt like a long day of training, the frost layering the ground and the soft patter of rain was just to highlight the rather gloomy day it had decided to be. The seal point was confident that there would be a peak of the setting sun through such dark clouds, along with them they'd have the pleasure of seeing a face that they're not yet acquainted with.
They truly waste no time to bound up to the chimera, an ever pleasant grin plastered across their maw as they attempt to play the welcoming committee. Unless another apprentice has already done it? It would be fine either way but they wanted to have the bragging rights, not that they would actually brag to anyone. They're getting ahead of themself, with a skip in their step they decided to sit down across from the apprentice.
"Heya Zuko, been shown much yet?" Even if they were chatty they weren't that much of a gossip to figure out who's mentoring him. With a twitch of their whiskers they glance up at the rain pelting down from the clouds. Wincing with a laugh as a raindrop hits their nose "If you're free I could show you the secret areas of camp?" There actually aren't any but if he didn't know that then any corner might seem kinda cool.
He was pulled sharply from his thoughts by Asphodelpaws eager arrival, blinking in surprise as the curly-furred feline settled across from him. He'd been somewhat dreading the moment when the cats here would start talking to him– when he'd have to start pretending he wanted to be there and that he belonged among them. That he wasn't just itching for an opportunity to jump ship and go home. Skyclan was just his path to redemption, and he really didn't want to get close to anyone.
But at the same time, avoiding them wasn't an option.
"Uh, no, not yet." he answered, ear flicking as a raindrop struck it, causing him to glance upward with a slight frown. This weather… he wasn't used to it. Less than a moon ago he'd been living a normal life as a kittypet in his twolegs house. He missed his twolegs, especially the little one. He missed his littermates, too. Even missed the mother who'd left her clawmarks on his face.
"If you're free I could show you the secret areas of camp?"
He would have been thrilled to be meeting someone new before all of this. Excited at the prospect of exploring something new. But now? What's the point when we're leaving tomorrow anyways? a part of him wanted to ask, the part that was still angry and bitter over losing everything. But he knew it wouldn't help to push it on someone else. It wasn't Asphodelpaws fault that Zuko had been too weak to make the right calls.
Besides, it'd been really boring in the medicine cats den, and despite everything that's happened, the chimera was eager for something to take his mind off things.
"Sure. My paws could use a stretch anyways." he reasoned as he stood, civil enough but lacking the enthusiasm Asphodelpaw had met him with, unable to match their more cheerful attitude when he still felt the sting of both his loss and the claws on his face.
"Were you born here?" he asked, a dark brow lifting in curiosity as he regarded the curly-furred tom. They didn't look like the other forest-cats here, and he knew enough about the group to know it wasn't uncommon for them to take in kittypets.
