The moon after last followed with no change in the toms life. No chanting of a new star-blessed name, no awkward shuffling in the warriors den to find a place for his nest, no shining pride to see in his fathers eyes. Grizzlypaw was faced with another moon of apprenticeship, and after watching the leader turn to her nest did Grizzlypaw enter. His paws moved quickly to shove through the first inch of darkness before halting abruptly.

"Uhm. Miss Juniperstar, I just spoke with Hazelheart. My mentor." The spotted tom spoke in short bursts as he was faced with an air of intimidation eh wasn't expecting. As the shelter settled around him he felt far more uncomfortably awkward than he expected to be, and maybe this was what that personal space business that Bearpaw talked about. "She told me I wasn't becoming a warrior this moon, because I'm uh... well, Miss. I'll admit I'm no better than a fish with claws in a fight. I don't see why that's so important, though. Don't we got plenty of good fighters already? Aren't we trying not to get into any?" The young tom shuffled his paws over the dusty earth as he looked away from the speckled leader and instead focus on the shadow he cast in her den.

the shift of a breeze from the entrance of her den tells the arrival of a guest. her ears sit at alert, gaze turning to find the speckled form of an apprentice lingering nervously with a back glow of sunlight. he addresses her with a sort of trepidation, admitting a shortcoming of his with a logic that she finds hard to deny.

the goal wasn't to fight... it is so staunchly avoided that it's no surprise he felt in line with Juniperstar's morals. she smiles, softly, sympathetically, "I do think that avoiding conflict is in our best interest," she won't lie, it doesn't do anything for him. "But.... you do need to understand how to protect yourself... how to protect your family. It's important to hold your own," they molly entreats him gently, sitting up and lifting a paw to beckon him to come closer.

he didn't need to cower. "We have good fighters now but every fight's a risk... and we'll need someone to help them, to keep them safe. We're stronger in numbers."
