{$title} Pikestar announces some new changes in RiverClan.
Pikestar wastes no time in getting this moon's meeting started. "There are some important announcements I will be making in regards to RiverClan's future. However, I will be making them after today's ceremonies. We have plenty of them to get through so let's begin." Unlike past meetings, he didn't wait for his clanmates to settle. Starting as soon as two apprentices in particular rush to sit near the meeting stump.

He motions for Juncopaw to step forward with a flick of his tail. "Juncopaw, you have passed your assessment and have earned your place as a warrior of Riverclan. Your warrior name will be Juncohop." A smile curls from his lips. "For your tireless energy and for your commitment in not only towards the clan, but what you hold dear. I don't think I've seen another apprentice or warrior run around as much as you do." He can't help but chuff, "I remember trying to find you, but winded up running all over our territory."

A sudden wave of embarrassment hits him for giving into his ramblings. With a cough he continues, "As much as I envy your tireless energy, please don't forget to rest. Some knowledge can only be learned in the moments where we rest."

Then he quickly moves on to the next apprentice who is waiting to receive their warrior name, Bubblepaw. "Bubblepaw, you too have passed your assessment and earned your place as a warrior of RiverClan. The warrior name you will receive today is Bubblebounce." He could only hope that she liked it. It didn't sound as fierce as Sharkfrenzy, but he felt that it was a name that best represented her. "For your kindness and generosity. Even if nothing is given in return, you're always happy to lend a paw. And even when others may say mean things to you, you never let it get to you. Their unkind words and actions bounce off you."

It should relieve him honestly. How she is able to keep marching forward without the cruelty of others having an effect on her, yet he finds himself a little unsettled. In many ways she reminds him of himself. A younger, more unburdened spirit. Maybe that is why his tone shifts into something more serious. "Don't let anyone take advantage of your kindness." Where he failed… Maybe she could succeed? It would be an arduous path, but he had faith that if there was anyone who could accomplish such a feat, then it would be Bubblebounce.

With the two warrior ceremonies complete, he can't help but wonder if the former apprentices would grow to loathe him at the end of this meeting. However, he had bigger fish to be concerned about. Now let's name the new apprentices.

In the crowd he searches for Wavesong. She is surrounded by the kits that will be made apprentices today. Once he has located her, he quickly fixes his sights on Strawberrykit. "Strawberrykit, it's time for you to start a new journey as Strawberrypaw. Your mentor, who will help you on this journey will be Dogflicker." While Dogflicker may be opinionated at times, she is reliable. Easy to talk to as well, he has no doubts Strawberrypaw and Dogflicker will get along.

As for the next kit… He can't help but stare at them for longer than he would have liked to admit. Jasperkit was taken in by Wavesong, but if Wavesong had not insisted, the kit would have been made an apprentice a moon ago. At first he tried to push back, but eventually gave up when Wavesong made it clear that she would not budge. The last thing he wanted was a furious mother hissing at his door. Wavesong can be terrifying. ANYWAY! "Jasperkit, until you have completed your training you will be known as Jasperpaw. Silverspirit will be your new mentor."

What follows is a bout of silence, as if he was done assigning new apprentices to their mentors. However, a majority of the clan knew that there were more of Wavesong's kits who were ready to become warriors. Their mother looked at the leader with a questioning tilt of her head while the other kits groomed for the occasion waited. I have to take risks. Green eyes settle on Salmonkit.

"Salmonkit, from this day forward until you have earned your warrior name, you will be known as Salmonpaw. Your mentor will be Galerunner." While he does have some concerns in regards to how Galerunner would treat and train his new apprentice, he simply has to believe that the young warrior won't do anything too foolish. His questionable nature has raised a couple of brows in the clan. The most recent incident being his suggestion to let a kit fend for themselves in the forest. However, it wasn't as if the clan could avoid it forever. Someday Galerunner was going to train an apprentice whether they liked it or not.

For your sake, I hope you don't do anything rash. Wavesong won't be as forgiving as I.

Then, he turns his head to another of Wavesong's kits. "Otterkit, you will go by Otterpaw until you become a warrior. Torrentsky will be your mentor." With Torrentsky there are no doubts. He has full confidence that the young warrior will take care of his new apprentice and teach them the necessary skills. If there is something that Torrentsky doesn't like, he refuses to let it sit and fester. Although, that trait of his is something that the leader worries about. While he was willing to hear Torrentsky's concerns and rage regarding Howlingkit, he worries about affairs that require patience. Where charging ahead and demanding answers or finding them will cause more harm than good. Maybe with Otterkit you'll learn new things too.

Only two kits were left. Piranhakit and Troutkit. He's already decided who would take over their training, but he can't help but wonder if this was truly wise. Or how it would be taken by a particular warrior. In some ways it can be seen as a reward, while in other ways it can be seen as punishment. Regardless, only time will tell where this decision leads them.

"Piranhakit, it's time for you to begin your training as well. As Piranhapaw your mentor will be Rushingtide." He looks to the young warrior who he fought with earlier. In his gaze, there is no fury to be gleaned. It was as if their scuffle never occurred, but the scratches from that day say otherwise. He knows in his heart that the warrior loathes him for ruining his family. For taking his father and his sister away from him. To this day the leader wishes things were different, but wishing didn't change the facts. The only reason why Rushingtide remained in this clan was not out of kindness. He remained out of responsibility. If the warrior never forgave him, then at the very least he was able to train his brother as he saw fit.

His gaze lingers at the pair of brothers, now mentor and apprentice before averting his eyes to the last remaining kit. A kit who looked like their father as well. However, he felt that Troutkit took after more of Adder than the rest of Wavesong's children. Even Rushingtide himself.

"Troutkit, or rather Troutpaw as of now… I will be your mentor." While he is unsure of how the clan will take this news, he finds that he doesn't care. His reasons for taking on Troutkit as his own apprentice so soon after Iciclepaw are selfish. He can feel the scars given to him by Adder burning, as if hissing at him for deciding to go through with this decision. Don't worry. If everything goes as planned, everything will be taken care of.

With all the ceremonies tended to, he must now announce some important changes for their clan. Changes discussed among the council and what they ultimately agreed upon best suited the needs of their clan at this very moment. If they had complaints about it, then they were free to do so. However, some things needed to be done in order to ensure their future. Especially now, during Leafbare.

"As I mentioned earlier I have some important announcements regarding our future. Changes that will be made and followed in order to survive."

Murmurs begin. Put a stop to it.

"Our first concern is ensuring everyone is fed. With the river beginning to freeze in some parts and the concern of having no land prey… The first change will be that kits will be made apprentices earlier than six moons starting next moon. As of now it has been decided any kit who is five moons will be made an apprentice and assigned a warrior. If our situation becomes more serious then kits will be apprenticed at four moons."

Already he can feel heated gazes sent his way and the increase of murmurs doesn't help either. It should have been expected since the clan, despite all their differences, were fiercely protective when it came to kits. We don't have much of a choice. He raises his voice, "The second change is to graduate apprentices sooner. The earliest an apprentice can become a warrior is at ten moons, after passing their assessments. Otherwise, they will graduate at eleven moons."

The reaction now is mixed. Apprentices who became warriors at the age of twelve moons may feel bitterness, while those who were still apprentices may feel excitement at this new prospect. As for the warriors? He could not discern their opinion. Nevertheless, he felt the need to explain why these changes must be done. How this would combat the issue of not having enough prey.

"Both of these changes are made to ensure that every mouth in this clan will be fed and that we have more paws to gather herbs or materials to strengthen our nests."

A beat.

"The third change is that we will no longer be accepting any cat who isn't in dire need into our clan. We already have many mouths to feed and we are expecting more kits any moon now." While this change sounded reasonable, he knew that this would be unheard of in the past. Those who lived in the Shipyard welcomed everyone. No one was turned away. If anyone left the Shipyard it is because they themselves did so. However, this was not the Shipyard. Even if they hated this new change, it didn't mean RiverClan needed to completely abandon their welcoming ways. He did say those in dire need were allowed to join, but would the clan test him by bringing relatives? If so, unfortunately they would be turned away. Unless they were truly in need.

"The fourth and final change is that we will begin regular battle training. While food will remain our main priority, we can't ignore the possibility that SkyClan or ThunderClan may attack us. Or any clan for that matter, so we will strengthen our claws. That way our clan is better prepared for an attack, if any clan dares to ambush us during Leafbare."

He can't help but glance at Rushingtide. The warrior who asked him what he did when they were taken advantage of because of his weakness. This time I won't let it happen to us again. Not by my own paws.

"That is all for this meeting." Finally, Pikestar descends and quietly enters his own den. If anyone needed a word with him about the new changes in regards to the clan, then he would be waiting in the comfort of his own den.

Thankfully, Chirp had managed to sneak away from the mollys view, for now... She didn't want to deafen her poor ears anymore of her mother's worried cries over leaf-bare.

Ugh...! I'm not that fragile anymore, mom...! She huffs in annoyance, and shook her head to vanish the thought. Guess she should feel grateful now to not be around her.

Padding over toward the meeting, she sits down with the cats of riverclan and began listening to the meeting. When the apprentices and kits were announced, Chirpcall couldn't help but to live up toward her name and began to chitter out a meow of celebration! But then, as the topic moved on toward the important changes for this clan, she couldn't help herself but be confused over the sudden mood swing that was cast on a few.

What was the big deal? That just meant the other kits and apprentices will now be able to adventure off and taste the freedom sooner! She really didn't understand the problem, nor see the reason as to why some would overprotective over their kits... Hmph. Just like mother, being so restricting over their independency.

OTTERPAW

RIVERCLAN
KIT
SHE/HER
06 MOONS
DINGO

Even Otterkit found it hard to sit still for this meeting, knowing that she and her siblings were now due to be apprenticed and receive their own mentors how could she possibly sit still!? It was so exciting! Their older siblings had already graduated to full warriors by now with their full names and she imagined that the next time she'd feel this excited again would no doubt be at her own warrior ceremony. What sort of name would Pikestar give her then? What things would she have learnt by then? All of that started today!

Otterkit couldn't hold back an eager shuffle of her paws and wriggle of excitement as Salmonkit was called first, now Salmonpaw and given Galerunner as a mentor. Her blue and orange eyes would widen slightly at the choice of pairing, Galerunner was such a tall cat! Would he teach Salmonpaw how to be that tall? She tried to imagine it for a few heartbeats but jolted back out of her thoughts once her name was called next, now was her turn!

The young cat stood to attention when faced by Pikestar, her tail standing right up in a show of confidence and pride for her clan. She would now be known as Otterpaw and her mentor would be... "Torrentsky!" She couldn't hold back the new wave of excitement that washed over her as she looked to the gathered cats in search of the face of her mentor-- Finally she'd learnt how to pronounce those double r's. Spotting his familiar friendly face she would slip her way over to stand in front of him with the grace of an eel, trying her best to keep her quivering paws grounded to the soil below despite how excited she felt. She wasn't a kit now! She couldn't just bounce around with gleeful joy like she was only three moons! She would squeak up at to Torrentsky with conviction in her heart despite her nerves. "I promise to try my very best!"

Her other littermates would soon be given their new names and mentors as well, Jasperpaw with Silverspirit, Strawberrypaw with Dogflicker, Piranhapaw got Rushingtide, their older sibling for mentor and Troutpaw got Pikestar himself! How lucky! But she was beyond happy with who ended up being picked to mentor her. Torrentsky was kind and understanding and didn't make her feel out of place for their dad not being in RiverClan anymore too... She knew that if she could be anything like Torrentsky? Then surely every other cat would see her as being just as loyal to the clan too.

In regards to the other news Pikestar gave Otterpaw would look confused, whiskers twitching. Starting next moon cats as young as five moons would be apprenticed and apprentices would now graduate sooner than twelve moons, some being able to graduate as early as ten instead. That meant if she was dedicated enough she could become a full warrior within the next four to five moons... The idea of SkyClan or ThunderClan attacking them was scary and he wanted to hide behind Torrentsky's paws but tried to keep herself rooted to the spot, instead looking up to him for guidance on how she ought to take all this news and change. Maybe Pikestar and the others just believed the younger cats of the clan were good enough to graduate earlier than previously planned? She hoped she wouldn't let them down...

"Are the other clans really going to attack us? Is ShadowClan going to steal our herbs again?" She'd mew uncertainly up to her new mentor, she knew the dangers that had followed the last time RiverClan was attacked by another.

˚ʚ♡ɞ˚ Baby do you know what you wanna hear?

indentWarmglow's sons are older now, more independent. In turn, she's gained more freedom to leave the nursery, confident Bravekit and Dawnkit won't die of cold in her absence. When Pikestar calls a meeting, she doesn't watch from the entrance of the nursery, but sits in the middle of camp with her clan-mates, gazing up at their leader.

indentShe nearly wishes she hadn't.

indentThe meeting starts off well enough. Though Pikestar mentions more serious things to come, graduations come first and foremost. Warmglow shouts the new names with as loudly as anyone else. She hasn't known any of these young cats long, but she's sure they'll be great warriors.

indentNext, comes the serious talks. Discussions of hostility, desperation, hunger. Suddenly, Warmglow feels the eyes of the entire clan on her. Leafbare, with so many new mouths to feed. Too many kits. Green eyes fix upon the cold ground, not meeting the gazes of those that surround her.

indent'You're always like this, Akemi.' Her sisters voice echoes in her mind. 'You ask for too much. You take and take, and think it's okay because nobody's told you off yet. Taking advantage of cats who're too nice to tell you 'no'.

indentShe's so fixated on her own wrongdoing that she hardly processes the rest of what Pikestar says. In just a few moons, they're going to take her sons from her. Train them up to fight. If you had told Warmglow yesterday, she'd be glad - the sooner she's out of the nursery, the sooner she can start repaying all Riverclan has done for her. Now though, It leaves a queasy feeling in the pit of her stomach. Her little boys, fighters? Even if it's just in self-defense, it's hard to imagine.

indentShe swallows around the lunp in her throat.

Another moon, another meeting. Unlike last time, Rushingtide expects nothing from this one. After his scuffle with the leader, with sharp claws and pointed teeth, he doesn't believe he will be getting an apprentice anytime soon. Regardless of that fact, today is the day his younger siblings will receive their new names, will be paired with warriors who will teach them for the following months. He is. . . doubtful, that he will agree with all the decisions Pikestar will make, soft as that tom is.

First come the new warriors, all of little interest to him. Then it is finally time for the entourage of kits his mother looks after; Strawberrypaw and Jasperpaw are called foremost, getting Dogflicker and Silverspirit as their mentors. He has no reason to object these choices, not as much as he has to say about the following two. Otterpaw goes to Galerunner, Salmonpaw goes to Torrentsky— they were barely warriors themselves, much less capable of training his little siblings meaningfully. Rushingtide bites the inside of his cheek to keep himself from causing a scene, but the lash of his tail is more than enough to showcase his dissatisfaction with the rather poor picks.

Piranhakit is called next, the rowdy kit with a knack for biting is then named Piranhapaw. Pikestar looks at him, summons him forward. As Piranhapaw your mentor will be Rushingtide. The silver tom tells, and he suddenly feels nervous, because he knows everyone is watching. Everyone will be watching. The entirety of RiverClan will be looking at the pair to see what Piranhapaw will become; if he will be another Adderfang, another Rushingtide. "Sorry." The chocolate tom mutters to his apprentice as they touch noses, eyes soft and tone gentle. He is truly apologetic that Piranhapaw is basically being punished for his brother's own actions.

And then the tenderness goes away, for Pikestar has the grand idea of being Troutpaw's mentor. Of course. Of course he would pick the one who looks like Adderfang, like he's some sort of replacement. "You have some nerve." He barks out a laugh, straightening his posture to stand at his full height. "To choose yourself as Troutpaw's mentor. How self-centered can you get?" No longer does he care about not causing a scene. "You chose him because he was sickly like Shellkit? Or because he looks like Adder? Maybe both? Do you think this will fix anything?" A growl, a hiss. Pikestar was trying his hardest to get even more on Rushingtide's nerves. Was this some sort of payback for getting bodied during their spar?

"You think Troutpaw will be a replacement for Adder? Tell me how long it takes before you start calling him by our father's name, too."

- TORRENTSKY -

Not some average bones, I believe in love!

.

‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎ ‎
Torrensky padded briskly towards the stump Pikestar stood upon as he called for a meeting, standing still for a few moments before finally settling onto his haunches. His gaze travelled over his clanmates that had settled beside him, particularly over Wavesong's kits, who clearly had a hard time sitting still from all the excitement bustling in their paws. He let out a brief purr, sharing their excitement as he turned his gaze back towards Pikestar.

"Juncohop!" Torrentsky called alongside his clanmates, pride swelling in his chest for the warrior, which only grew stronger once Bubblepaw was called next.

"Bubblebounce!" He continued to cheer, raising his voice as he watched his friend receive her name, which was more than fitting for Bubble. Torrentsky attempted her catch her eye, his expression brimming with a silent message of congratulation.

The young warrior continued to listen as Pikestar named the new apprentices, his tail flicking back and forth every so often. As Otterkit was called, Torrentsky's ears perked in surprise when he followed Pikestar's gaze to who was to be her mentor, and their eyes met instead.

"Torrentsky will be your mentor."

His gaze quickly travelled from Pikestar to Otterpaw, warmth and pride filling his heart as the apprentice called his own name in excitement. Torrentsky stood tall, his tail lifting happily as Otterpaw quickly made her way to him through their gathered clanmates.

"Otterpaw!" Torrentsky meowed in response to her, gazing down at the young apprentice with eyes as bright and warm as ever. He lowered his head to touch his nose to her forehead, letting out a purr of amusement as he watched her paws buzz with excitement. Lifting his head, Torrentsky let out a short chuckle of admiration a her words.

"I know you will." He replied, giving her a determined dip of his head. "And so will I. You're going to be a great apprentice and an even better warrior, Otterpaw." Torrentsky meowed, a promise to the young cat who stood before him.

Eventually, he settled back down on his haunches next to his new apprentice, as Pikestar continued on. Rushingtide's sudden anger towards the silver tom in regards to Troutpaw caused him to tense, watching the chocolate tabby closely. He was ready to step in if anything must escalate, but Pikestar continued on, with an announcement of changes being made to Riverclan. And yet again, his words made his pelt prickle with uncertainty. Five moons may be okay, but four was pushing it. Keeping the kits fed should be a top priority, not sending them out into the bitter cold before they may be ready. Torrentsky's muzzle twisted in thought, weighing the possible outcomes that could emerge from this new rule. Pikestar wasn't exactly being very descriptive about these changes–did he expect cats as young as 4 and 5 moons to be prepared for battle? Questions soared through his head, but he was quickly pulled back to the present as movement as his side caught his attention.

Otterpaw was staring up at him, with an expression mixed with fear and uncertainty. The look on her face had sent a sudden wave of realization over him–Otterpaw relied on him. It felt like only a few heartbeats had passed since she was named his apprentice, and her trust in him was already immense. She wanted reassurance and guidance from him. Torrentsky blinked, a strong sense of protectiveness resting on his shoulders for the apprentice who looked up to him in search of answers.

"Are the other clans really going to attack us? Is ShadowClan going to steal our herbs again?"

"No, no." Torrentksy meowed, instinctively wrapping his tail around her side. "Pikestar only wants us to be prepared, his words are not a promise that these dangers are heading to Riverclan." He assured her, his tone kind. "Though I can promise you that you are safe with me." Torrentsky meowed, his voice unwavering.
